Wharf Fishing in the Far North - NZ Parore and John Dory

- Hello and welcome to another video of basic fishing. In this video, I had the chance to do some fishing off the far north for the very first time in my life and it was a great experience for me as I never fished in the far north before.
To start things off, I decided to do some wharf fishing for parore. There were lot of fish around but sadly the big ones proved elusive but I still had fun nevertheless. There were lot of fish activities as well which was exciting to catch plus it was awesome seeing JDs(John Dory) getting caught as well.

Just spent the week up here and took the trusty 14ftr with us , 10min crawl just out from wharf and we were killing it everytime , probably used a sprinkle of gas

What rod n reel set up ?? Looks like a Backbone Elite 5 to 7 & a Shimano Sienna 4000 (I may have answered my own question lol)
close haha aqua tip 3-6kg and sienna 2500
@@BasicFishingNZ ahhh..Still I good all round set up...I've got a couple of aqua tip rods also a 1000 Sienna reel.. One of my favorite reels too.
great reels especially for the price you are paying to get one
that wharf is amazing place but some times they get so crowded with people fishing.

Why use a sinker? use wet bread or dough and you will get much better results on parore. Mussels tend to get hammered by spotties. Watch your braid as your dough ball hits the water when it starts playing weird, slowly wind in and boomie. I prefer using size 12 trout hooks cause they just pop right into the mouth
current was strong so needed the sinker to get to the bottom
@@BasicFishingNZ wharf parore are easily caught mid water. most of my larger ones especially around devo have been caught as soon as the dough ball sinks out of vision.

that wasn't my car. i was parked at the proper parking area near the trees
