Further Reading
As our pinned comment mentions, we cover basics with the goal of inspiring curiosity for more! There are so many important details to explore. For example, the conversion of lactose to allolactose, the cAMP-CAP conversion that stimulates the RNA polymerase, or the names of the different genes and their individual functions. We also don't mention that there are other factors that can affect the activation of this operon (such as glucose levels). UPDATE: 1. Isn't it fascinating that, as mentioned, ALL of your DNA is found in your body cells, but genes can be turned "on" or "off?" We just want to to note: there are a few body cells that do not have *any* DNA though. Mature red blood cells or cornified epidermal cells for example. Always some fascinating exceptions in biology. 2. If you're studying the lac operon, we want to remind you that our video looks at basic concepts with the goal of inspiring to explore more. For example, we don't talk about the conversion of lactose to allolactose, the cAMP-CAP conversion that stimulates the RNA polymerase, or the names of the different genes and their individual functions. We also don't mention that there are other factors that can affect the activation of this operon (such as glucose levels). Check out the further reading details to explore more! your videos are so helpful that I am 7th grade, and I always watch this before my test and I would get an A on my test! Thank you so much for uploading such helpful videos! You saved my grade...
thank you ,it's really helpful and fun too ..❤❤❤
Please do a tryptophan operon soon 🙏🙏🙏
Great that you pinned this message! As this is not sufficient for biochemistry at the university I was going to comment on what you mentioned here. But otherwise, great video! It's great as an introduction to the topic.
There is definitely demand for more in-depth topics for more advanced students, please make a separate playlist for advanced topics since you are so gifted with the ability to explain complex topics with simplicity 🙏
I learned more from this than my actual college lecture.
These videos are super helpful and very engaging!
An Asian Gamer hard when they are super boring and confusing, also a huge information dump with droning monotone teacher
same here😂

Yes! Lol
Any NCERT guys watching this???

This is so far the best channel for molecular biology. Now I just think of my whole body made up of cute things like this moving around and doing their job.
If u think like that u need to grow up

Oh my gosh, these videos are so cute!! THIS makes science even more entertaining. :3
Holy FRICK. I'm just looking for review and I find this gem. I bet you dont even remember writing this haha
another comment gem
LOVE THIS CHANNEL lol
can I just say that I'm 26 and your little characters made me laugh out loud. I had to re watch 3 times because I was reading what the little guys were saying. "I want to make the things!" 😂
You mean made you LOL xD
Lol I had to watch it twice cause of that!
Lol... I had to rewind several times coz I kept being distracted to read what they're saying instead of paying attention to the real material 😂😆😆
Hhhhhh me too !!!
it's really funny 😂😂
Lol
These are the best videos to help understand really complicated concepts. I am a college student and these videos are a still a huge help, especially since it takes hard to understand concepts and breaks them down without sacrificing the small important details.
+Aubry Thank you so much! :D
Aubry haha! I'm in seventh grade and this is still helping. You are amazing!!
Amoeba Sisters can you guys make a video on muscle contraction, amino acids, insulin?
100% agreed :)
same lol. im in 2nd year of uni taking advanced biochemistry but here i am hahah
“NOOOOO! I should have let you block the thing!” - I lol’ed so hard at this
Hahahaha right me too 😂
There's a certain point in bio lectures where you know the definitions but just want a nice visual and put all of it together. This is the video to watch, thank you.
I don't think I'd pass very many science courses without youtube :o

Couldn't understand my 2-hour lecture on microbiology and you guys explained it so easy in 7 minutes! thank you so much!!
Tell me about it, they’re amazing
This video is cute and interactive but informative at the same time, definitely helped to keep me involved. Please make more!!
my bio teacher sends me to really boring videos to study and I just come to these videos b/c it helps it make sense and they're so cute
These videos are great :)
The drawing made it so much more easier to understand! Guess I'm more of a visual learner
“My eyes are burning like a thousand suns” 😂
This is the best video I have ever seen. Period. Thankyou so much for introducing me to the basics of gene regulation, was just about to start the topic when I found your amazing video. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks so much! :D

Helped me on my A'LEVELS exams! Thank you so much! Do you have a video on trp operon?
Not yet but hoping to someday! :)
I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE BASICS OF THIS MODEL ...well...now i have to learn the details but I finally understand it at all 😭😭✌ thank youuu~
(kinda funny that I understand an english video but i don't understand this model by videos in german/my native languages)
Through your animations, I've gained more clarity in so many topics... the way you've portrayed things is printed in my brain. Thank you for making such tricky topics so simple and understandable.
for sure this is soooo helpful
Nice to see I'm not the only one watching these videos during the summer. And thanks to this channel, I'll be dominating every Science course for the next 3 years!
84updown We love to hear this---we wish you great success! :D
Eiahfou
How did you science courses go over the past 5 years?
"Why do we even need to learn this strand if we're never going to use it!" This has to be the greatest biology/teacher joke of all time. Also, "You are here. You must be here to synthesize HCL" is a hilarious, immediately familiar way to describe the concept. As a 26 year old "adult" college student, I mostly watch these for super dorky biology humor that motivates me to get back into the dry stuff. Thank you!!
YOOOOOOO, Ameoba Sisters out here getting me an "A" in Microbiology! Keep On Keepin On!
I watched one hour lecture and I didn't understand many concepts but this 6 min video clears every doubt... Thanks for the video
That last minute study before the exam hustle. Thank you
"You're an enzyme Harry!" Lol
I love your videos ! They always help me understand stuff like this better in biology! Plus, you make it interesting and funny to watch. :P Can you do a video on trp operon and the 4 controls of gene control in eukaryotes? Thank you :)
This is what reminds me that learning is supposed to be fun and interesting, thank you so much!!!
My teacher spent an entire week explaining this when I just learned it in 6 minutes :-)))
The video does what It needs to, but I think an update would be nice as the audio in later videos improved immensely.
wow you guys are awesome I'm studying for my masters in diagnostics and watching your videos have really given me a very good understanding of the topics.Thank you amoeba sisters ,long life, health and more video!!!lol.
you solved my problem in 6 min while my professor tried for 2 weeks but still couldn't
You guys deserve a medal! Your videos are fantastic!! Please make more :)
From a happy first year biochemistry student.
Thank you so much!! :)
I am so grateful for your videos! I am in university studying Cell and Molecular Biology, and it has been hard for me to understand all of this information with all of the big words and specific details. Your videos helo me understand the big picture and make it easier to piece together the smaller details. Thank you SO much!

These videos are amazing! I enjoy the animations and the outstanding instruction for sure, but I especially appreciate you guys encouraging careers in science. Keep up the teaching, Amoeba Sisters, and I'll keep up the learning!
Thank God, thank UA-cam. We would have been nothing without you.
Thank you for making these types of videos!!!!! Your video makes gene regulation sooo much easier to understand...I am also a college student who needed help understanding this material for my biology final, and now because of this video I understand! Keep on making these videos, great job!!!:)
I love this so much! This is such a great and fun way to learn. The cartoons are funny, but at the same time they explain the functions of each part of the process and make it so easy to remember! Thank you!
OMGGG thank youuu so much! This really helped me a lott, justt studying about genetics for plant breeding and this is MASTERPIECE!
your videos are so cute with better understanding...Thanks a lot !.. :)
I've read this (lac operon) in my textbook at least 5 times and never understood it until just now in a short 6 minute video. Thank you so much for existing.
So Rna polymerase needs promotor to start transcribing but operator blocks it way when operator is attached with repressor protein .
Lac operon
When lactose is more it binds to repressor protein and removes it from operator thus making the path free for rna polymerase which then synthesises lactase which in turn break lactose
And bacteria eat lactose happily
If lactose is not there it doesnt bind to repressor thus the repressor is on operator and blocks rna polymerase
In other words , lactose is suicidal 😂
you are litlerally the sweetest things on earth and honestly your way of explaining is far easier to understand than the way we learn about this in class. that being said, i am completly lost
That's my first time watching a video of this channel and I loved the entertaining way it helpes me lot , thank you
U know what when I studied this topic from my book I gain nothing but from these types of interactive videos I am crystal clear now
Superb explanation 👌👍👏 It's like magic.. Keep GOING
my science teacher makes us watch this after the first time of watching amoeba sisters I was hooked.
The pictures help, thanks for helping me study for AP bio test tomorrow
Taking AP bio and I have a midterm in 2 days. I red the book like, proceeded to cry because the book just needs to make things unnecessarily complicated, and teacher just need to be beyond lazy. Basically I was going to accept failure if I hadn't stumbled upon thins. So thanks for basically saving my life
I like how the Operator portion of the gene is a derp face the whole time.
I am 20 Years old And this is The First Video i've watched from this Channel And i have to say it was absolutely lovely! I genuinely laughed about the lactose regretting thing!
And it's even very good to learn with!
Keep the good work up!
This is the best video I have ever seen. Period. Thankyou so much for introducing me to the basics of gene regulation, was just about to start the topic when I found your amazing video. Keep up the amazing work!

This is so cute, visual and so so helpful! Thank you so much!
Can’t thank you enough for helping me understand all the material. Very easy and fun explanations. Love it.
0:27 is this a Linkin Park reference…? Or am I just seeing things...
This was the most funny and easiest way to learn about lac operons. I tried to watch my professors video about it, but nothing was making sense and it was hard to focus. But this? This was absolutely chefs kiss. Thank you Amoeba Sisters, you now have a new fan and subscriber. I knew science could be fun and easy to learn.
You're awesome. I'm in a molecular genetics class now (as an engineering student, so very little biology background) and this honestly cleared up quite a few things for me!
I found your videos when I was searching for an video about genetics, and it's easy to understand, thank you for creating awesome videos!😊
Thank you Amoeba Sisters - I am self studying SAT II Biology , all of your videos are great help to me , once again, thank you!

This video explained a very confusing concept in a simple way . I really appreciate the efforts that were put in to carefully build up the concept .
God bless you. You're doing a great job
Thank God for your videos. I'm doing college biology and don't get it from my professor. You should be a professor! ❤
what an awesome video, very informative and well made, keep up the great work!
I've seen so many of your videos ad really enjoy them but this animation had me dying lol with the lactose reaction to hungry bacteria and the repressors reaction to the lactose binding to it lololololool great job! lol
literally i paused my professor's lecture and just come to this channel for whatever topic we are on! so so grateful for this channel bc sis would be lost
Medical Student here and really enjoy It, Nice way to remember us how amazing our body is besides I finally learn about Lac operon
Hello, Amoeba Sisters. I just want to thank you for this great educational content. I am a graduated theoretical physics student from Germany and I was told to perform a so called genetic toggle switch experiment in the lab. Since my biology wisdom was very poor I could perform the experiment and take conclusions about the physical quantities in the experiment BUT I was not able to understand *why* this phenomena was happening! (I had 2 populations of E.Coli which are red light or green light fluorescent). Thanks to your videos I started to find out about the "different players" acting in the bacteria!!! This was the first video I watched and now its also the last because after watching it for the first time I started to get so interested in all this topics that I ended watching them all. Thank you very much! In Germany we have a saying which fits wonderfully to my situation that says "You saved my butt."... because next week I have an oral exam with a biology professor at my university and he might ask me about this... also now I am so curious about all this stuff that I cant understand why nobody told me about all this before!!! Who hided all this information from me!?!?! hahahaha THANKS
Wow, keep doing what you do. Every other youtube video I searched on this was so difficult to understand because it was so technical. This animation, though, was extremely helpful and made it so simple to understand. THANK YOU!
Im taking my DAT in a month and honestly these videos have helped me SO MUCH.
I am a senior in college and have watched many and many biology videos. your videos are exceptional and definitely the best. thank you so much
cool video..have a better understanding now.Thanks!! :)
English is my second language but these videos have helped me so much to understand these concepts. Keep on with the good work and thanks! :) I hope to see more videos from you.
