An asteroid is headed straight toward Earth. Initially, scientists thought it would miss us, but they've made some serious miscalculations. And now, it's headed right toward our giant blue marble. What happens next? Does this mean the end of humanity? Can we change the trajectory of the asteroid?
And why might this actually happen by the year 2029?

Wasn’t there a show like this?! I’m going crazy searching for it please help me find the name
i got a question for you @Whatifscienceshow
do you think that the Apophis going to hit earth in 2024 or in 2029 in the future???
@@lizzfigueroa5355 🤔 Life after people

Dying once is far better then dying everyday
Answer: we die and it doesn't matter what year
Yes Answer is: We die. But We might can survive From it too.
It’s not large enough to cause an E.L.E. It’s the size of the Empire State Building.
@@TahoeTime4457 WOW, E.LE. is Big but if an Asteroid isn't not that Large are We safe or not? I believe a Dart Mission-like Mission can Save Us.
It wouldn’t be the extinction of humans but it would be devastating. How bad would depend on where it hits but it would kill a lot of people and animals.
Thanks, you saved my 10 minutes 🙏
Considering how the 2020s have been going, an asteroid hitting would probably make things slightly better.
My feelings too.
Well Put....
True
Sooo True...😂
Agree, population is way outa control, sorry to say but this is needed
What if the ocean water was freshwater? I'd love to see this one.
OOooohh that would be good!
thats already a vid
I think they have a video content for that
What did you have in mind, one of the great lakes?
All marine fishes would die, a lot of ecosystems would collapse and eventually, we would die too.
I wonder how many really close calls we had before we developed the technology to discover and track those things.
Ignorance is bliss.
We've been hit hard before. Tunguska event.
@@Eric-pz1iv We weren't really hit in either of those two events (same thing happened in 1908, in basically the same region of Russia). In both cases, the asteroid exploded prior to impact, so the devastation was severely localized, instead of globalized, like an actual cratering event would have caused. But yes... Those are by far the closest calls in humanity's history!
We already do. The video acts like Nukes are the only weapon we have. And we don't need to blow it up it's a year away all we have to do is slow it down a little bit the video forgets we are moving around the sun. It's just trigonometry.
Well, likely, countless, considering that we, as a species (the modern humans), have been around for some 200,000 years.
I think 2024 will be a great year!

True, but if you get killed, idc.
this is earth's revenge for us not taking care of the environment I guess
@@CoolHQ2024 in today's time it would infact bring relief to lot of people by dying once rather than everyday
We humans always think that we are smarter than the nature but we have missed the point nature is much powerful than us beyond imagination. A devastating truth is we always believe that we are the supreme power but the truth is that we aren’t the only one surviving in this universe
Apophis would cause a lot of damage and loss of life depending on where it hit but it is not large enough to be an extinction level event
Yes we seem to hold on through everything were like cockroaches lol
Amazing job with this episode! I love watching your videos with such curiosity... but this one really was of interest because 2029 is not too far away....😦

@@specialagentweener1073 Apophis, the asteroid they are talking in this video is going to fly very close to Earth, about 30,000 Km that is 10 times closer than the Moon is. Depending how his trajectory will change by getting this close to Earth, in 2036 it is possible that this asteroid could hit Earth. So there is no danger for this to happen in 2029, but we are not sure yet about 2036.

And also you deserve way more subscribers 😁
I personally believe that some sort of major cataclysm will eventually take place that will ultimately have us living like the Flintstones -- minus the dinosaurs, of course -- long before we ever progress far enough to live like the Jetsons. Yeah, it's a corny analogy, but it provides a pretty good visual that should be simple for everyone to imagine.

Apophis is only about 30% - 50% bigger than the Tunguska asteroid which leveled about 20 miles of trees in Siberia. We will certainly survive but we wouldn't want it to hit a major city...
The one problem I've had with the whole large impact, is the explosion wouldn't lose strength around the planet. If that was true the every tested nuke would have have been felt around the world.

So if the astroid hit in 2029 it won't be the end of the world but would cause extreme weather conditions right?

Yeah the Apophis asteroid isn't big enough to cause mass-extinction like the dinosaur one. But it could still cause lot's of damage and death if it were to hit.
As a servant of Apophis I welcome this. All hail the bringer of darkness and chaos!!!!!
It's a two piece rock & yes, it absolutely is. What you're experiencing is denial.
@@Marcus_Octavius_Maximus You doubt the power of Apophis?
I know that it pales in comparison to cognitive function of Biden.
Apophis spelt back is sophia with to p's
All I know is I'll never know the feeling of being decimated by impact I think id rather freeze to death that to feel that big ouch
You wouldn't nuke the thing directly. You'd nuke off to the sides to redirect it. Sort of like the kinetic impact. Just change the aim, but this time by hitting nearby the asteroid by multiple detination
A glancing blow would be far more effective than a direct hit. A direct hit would most likely do nothing, surprisingly enough. Like shooting a bibi-gun at a freight train, it would barely slow the rock down at all. But a glancing blow would definitely alter trajectory. Especially if we're talking about a high-yield nuke, in the "megatons" range.
This is true we r living in the end times ryt now. So asteroid hits earth in 2025. Its true!😭
🤔😕🧐
And this could happen, but very very unlikely
@@katemoo9581 no its true 2025
How do you know they said it was going to hit in 2012 and it messed us
Source: trust me bro
I really hope there isn’t any miscalculations with apophis or anything that changes it’s orbit enough to be on a collision course with earth. Even tho apophis wouldn’t kill everyone, given it’s size it will still do a significant amount of damage and change the lives of everyone on the planet for years
Imagine by 2029, humanity is right in the middle of "World War 3," because China finally invaded Taiwan, two or three years prior. An asteroid impact, in the middle of all that, would basically bring the entire war to a SCREECHING HALT, because humanity's number one priority would be in recovering from such a disaster of global proportion. What an epic chapter that would make in the history books, a hundred years from now! lol
14/1/24 ( Sunday ) 8.00 pm. The video suggested that the asteroid would most likely hit Pacific Ocean. Of course there's "land" scenario. As such, there might be a high chance of hitting Yellow Stone Park in USA, igniting the super volcano.....just imagine the destructive force.....
Originally the apophis asteroid had a 2,37% chance of hitting earth in 2029, they also said that it could strike earth in 2036. Now, they are sure it will NOT hit earth in either of those dates.
So they say.
Yes, it may be wrong, but they are basing their judgements on math and science, which is pretty reliable.

As a huge fan of Stargate SG1, all I can see is it being some Goauld behind this. Also wondering the correct pronunciation of Apophis now….
This is not the proper pronunciation. Bothers me slightly lol
Don't worry, the jump drive can open just short enough for it to miss the Earth and continue on its path on the other side of the Earth.
@@DjOdyssey1971 Nice work Carter!
Love what if videos🥰🥰🥰
Don’t worry we do have a defense planetary
An asteroid hitting the Earth would mean serious consequences for land and water.
No worries!
We Stargate fans know, that Carter will blow up the asteroid in time!
Even though Jack O'neall will see his house from space. :D
Earth's atmosphere dramatically reduces the size of most asteroids, so if it's the Eiffel Tower now, it would be a school bus by the time the atmosphere is done with it.
Exactly so if we fragmented it in space it would most likely entirely burn up
As far as I know the size estimation is of that time when it hits the earth
bro cannot find any content every year bro says that something terific would happen😂
I love your channel man
I don't understand how all this devastation can be caused by a little rock.
Physics 👍
@@Roguewrrior56 the whole Earth, from one rock that's less than the size of a small town? Must be their density and the force of their impact then. I've heard asteroids/meteors/meteorites are beyond heavy.
I wouldn't be surprised or even shocked if it did hit the earth. Hey, I am expecting the kraken to rise from the depths to annihilate us.
If only....
Now wait a damn minute, how have I never seen the face of What If?!
Alternate title: What if our wish was finally granted?
Sounds like the 8th chapter of Revelation to me!☝️🙏✝️
Me too bro ✝️
We need the awesome "Command and Conquer" series of RTS video games - GDI's Ion Cannon to stop the rock if they can build a weapon like this we have not anything to fear. They tried back then with the US plan for the "Star Wars" project but they failed maybe now they can succeed or they have build it and they have it as a secret super weapon. I don't think that with nukes or other ways we can stop an asteroid IMO. Great vid btw.👏👏👌👌
@@Foxy-if8pt too small its use is to destroy aircraft for a rock like this you need a lot of more of firepower as i said an ION Cannon or at least nukes!!
I thought my phone was ringing for a sec
It’s no surprise a Magnetar would watch this man
Yup elon musk will escape in his spacecraft
What if they launched shuttles that could send it another way with engines , I know they said the gravity would do it , but what if it literally attached ,and the jets from the engine made it turn away??
Good idea!!👍👍
i love the slight integration of AI video clips into the video. super cool
Lol some were actual movie clips, from various disaster flicks such as: The Day After Tomorrow (2007), Deep Impact (1998), Armageddon (1998), 2012 (2009) etc.
The missiles launching, I believe was from Terminator 3 (2003). 🤔
Now days I'm more worried about a Nuke than an Asteroid
Need to watch Stargate SG1 to learn pronunciation of Apophis 😉
what if a moderate to small sized but not extinction level meteriote hit an area of the earth with an underlying supervolcano or fault line or uranium mine/
That's an interesting question. What if a moderate-sized meteorite, roughly the size of the one that formed Meteor Crate in Arizona, impacted above the Yellowstone super-caldera? I think that if the energy released was enough to cause an eruption, the effect of the impact itself would be insignificant relative to the cataclysmic destruction caused by the eruption.
That’s like asking what would happen if you threw a dart at a zit - it wouldn’t be good!
Incredible analysis of what would happen if an asteroid hit Earth! The explanations of the different scenarios, from the kinetic impactor to the nuclear option, were presented in a clear and engaging manner. This video definitely got me thinking about our vulnerability to cosmic threats.
The way I just said Phuccckk when I saw this was a what if😂😂
Apophis's pass-by in 2029 contains very large uncertainty, in itself of trajectory. It can deviate a lot upon close call in that 2029, which is 6 years from now. If we don't do something already by now to nudge it from its current trajectory, then 2036 could turn that we missed opportunity big time. We could send a rendezvour, a ready made satelite that will accompany this wonderer around the sun to catch up and blow next to it, when it departs away from earth in 2029. That blow or explosion is nuclear load and hefty one that will contain water or some expanding staff upon explosion to amplify its effect. So, expanding reaction will not fracture the asteroid but push it away, with enough kilotons to send to, so that, it take 'no-return' route. We could be making big and bigger mistake if we think lightly. It may seem, to miss by a hair width pass nearly a keyhole pass-by, but it could be that it did, just through arrogance of specialists we made fatefull judgement in consideration of all possibilties.
What if an asteroid hit earth in 2024?
It'd still be better than 2020.
If a asteroid hits us before GTA 6. Then I'm not dying..
My family would get as close to ground zero as possible, far enough to watch the impact, but close enough to be vaporized.
Imagine if it was Nolan’s mom 😟

9:33 ya it’s not a laughing matter…
For such a serious topic, why is the narrator talking like a carnival huckster? "It's no joke!" he says jokingly.
An asteroid passing 30,000 km from earth is like a bullet missing your head by a half an inch
It surely can’t be much worse than the world we live in right now.
Hello what if
A asteroid that has a slight possibility of hitting earth in November 2024 is so scary 😢
