Love that you saw a bald eagle...we live in upstate NY and see them regularly but so inspiring!... we love your videos and watch almost every day now...hence going back to older ones...keep at it, you're doing great!!
Awesome video! Cold Spring is one of the cutest small towns in the area that you can get to by train. Love how you can get into nature & grab some good food in such a compact area. I live up the road in Beacon and head over there to have coffee a lot and enjoy the views on the water. Just a perfect place... but better come on a weekday because the weekends are packed!
Indeed! Cold Spring is a fantastic place with a lot to offer. Yeah, I'm really glad I went on a weekday. I've heard before how packed it can get on the weekends.
Glad you had such a great time! I grew up near there in Croton on Hudson. Breakneck Ridge and Stormking Mountain are my favorite trails in that area. Rockefeller State Park preserve in pleasantville/tarrytown area is also really beautiful this time of year. Really nice to see another great video - your videos are terrific whether they are on restaurants, food OR hiking!
I really enjoyed this video! There's just so many nice things to say about Cold Spring! I like the town, the mountains, and the Bald Eagle. But in the early 2000s i never remember there being something like fire smoke traveling from the West Coast to the East Coast like that. In matter of fact i don't even remember there being many forest fires back then.
Thanks! Yeah, I can only imagine how beautiful Cold Spring would've been that day if there wasn't that haze, but it will definitely be a place I go back to.
I have never seen Metro-North Railroad before O_O. I only take LIRR so it was a shocking news for me haha. 2:00 Yeap coffee lover confirmed XD! I also wanna see a bold eagle so badly T_T.
I was born in Cold Spring and lived in neighboring Nelsonville for 15 years. It's a beautiful village. I still have a few friends that live in the area. FYI: The movie "Hello, Dolly" was partial filmed in Cold Spring. Don McLean lived in Cold Spring when he wrote and recorded. "American Pie". Little Stoney Point has a beach on the northside (upriver) it is called "Sandy Beach" by the locals. Bald eagles do inhabit the area. Not uncommon. While exploring Little Stoney Point you will find remnants of the Trap Rock Quary structures that once has in the area. There are other trails back off the river especially some in Nelsonville. As a kid I explored all over Bull Hill (a.k.a. Mt. Taurus). The cold spring in Cold Spring is down by the railroad tracks near the old train station which is now the Depot Restaurant. Bill and Hillary Clinton enjoy eating there. I recommend the "Steamers". Legend has it, General George Washington, whose troops were camped on the hill that Haldane Central School occupies today, tasted the spring and remarked how cold it was. At time 14:00 you will see a "Palen's Drug Store". It was an old "Rexall Drugs" store. It was in two buildings. The one the sign is over and the dorr to the right of it which was where the local "Bryer's" soda shoppe resided. The pizza store is "Cold Spring Pizza." Years before it too was a "Borden's" soda shoppe called "Busy Corner". The Haldane students would frequent there during lunch and after school. It was one of two pizza joints in Cold Spring in the 60-70's. Great vIdeo!
Thank you! And thanks for sharing all that amazing information! I really enjoyed my visit to Cold Spring, but it looks like there was a lot I didn't know about the place. I think that the next time I'm back in the area, I'll have a deeper appreciation for the place. Thank you so much!
@@Jamesnu 1 question James .. If you had 2 days off and you don't have energy to hike, where would you go from new york city ? best place to R & R near city reachable by train.
@@tasteofmeiguo1146 There's a lot of great places! For a beach trip, Long Beach, NY and Long Branch, NJ are great places. Those are the only two beach spots I've gone to so far, but there're actually a lot more for beach trips. I would really like to go to the Hamptons, but it's a bit expensive. I've also been meaning to go to New Canaan, CT, there's an interesting home and museum there called the glass house. Philadelphia, is great too, lots to do there. I'm also sure that there are probably a lot of great places nearby that I haven't even heard of yet.
Love going to cold springs, going down Friday actually to film VR version of the Cornish estate! funny I happened to find this video just by searching "hiking new York".
Pretty much. I went up Main Street for a couple of blocks and then made a left onto Fair Street and continued North for about a mile until I reached the trails.
Cold spring reminds me of the little towns located in the eastern and southern side of Ecuador (Amazon). Zamora is one of those magical towns with a national park called Podocarpus definitely a must-see besides Quilotoa, Cotopaxi National Park, El Pailón del Diablo waterfall, San Pablo Lake, Cuicocha lake, and Otavalo. 👌
@@Jamesnu I know where lemont is! Cool! Just subscribed. Plan on moving out to the Boston/Portsmouth, NH area this next year but absolutely love seeing all the little places to visit in New England
what a lovely trip away from your urban day to day. dont you find that being in nature, it is so much easier on the eyes and mind? all those soft edges of things? when in the city it can be an assault of angles and hard surfaces. you are right...it is nice to go to nature. good reminder!.
Absolutely! I love NYC and city life in general, but being in nature provides a much needed break for me and a great mental boost. It's something I should do more often.
You deserve way more subscribers, these videos are so well made

Can you explain where you went from the moment you got off the train? You obviously had to go through the tunnel. Did you go straight north?
