    So appreciate you covering schizophrenia. My brother got paranoid schizophrenia when he was 20, he is 67 now, in a facility, taking his meds. At times he was homeless and off meds. It is terrible and difficult to deal with someone who hears voices and is hallucinating. It had a toll on our family. Thanks for doing this conversation!

    The amazement is that no matter how bad your anxiety might be you still manage to shine the light on others so that their stories are told. It takes a strong individual to do that. Fluoxetine has been a life saver for my anxiety. Maybe something you can try.

    Maurice, I am so happy that you had an episode about schizophrenia. My son was diagnosed 13 yrs ago with schizophrenia. I cried listening to this, because it is so similar to our lives. So many ups and downs. Jake has that same look as my Josh. I always tell my Josh, that he is the strongest person I know! Thank you again Maurice, for putting a light on Schizophrenia. ❤

      @MBStateOfMind you should cover an episode on your memories of the late Billy Miller, since he kept quiet to himself it might be a good idea so you can raise awareness for it 😉 😀

    Thank you so much for having Laurette and Jake on SOM, Mauricio. Laurette and Jake, that you for your courage and honesty in helping us better understand schizophrenia. There’s definitely not enough information out there. There are mental health issues in my family, but not this particular issue. I’m going to buy your book and learn more. Thank you for writing it so we can be more educated. You two are testament to love! Wishing you peace and more solutions to help support both of you. God bless. ♥️

    Laurette McCook used to be known as actress Laurette Spang. Laurette was famous on Battlestar Galactica in 1978 the popular Sci-fi '70's TV series along with actor Dirk Benedict.

    Thank you for all this knowledge and insight. I think both of you men are so incredibly strong to go what you go through each and every day, and wish you nothing but peace. Hopefully you might explore the cognitive therapy now that you know it could be a positive help for you. I think his mother is just an incredible person. Thank you Maurice. ✌

    Thank you Maurice for all that you do bringing awareness of these mental illnesses that for so long were kept as "never to be spoken about" . It's what you are doing that is opening conversation as well as a learning tool of understanding it all . There are so many misconceptions regarding Bi Polar and Schizophrenia. It's truly admirable that your guests respond so graciously to all of the questions regarding there experiences as you yourself have done so openly and honestly. My heart is always so full each time that I spend time with your videos. Thank you so very much ❤

    First thank you to have read this book for Jake !
    Living in tv movie can be the first sign of schizophrenia ( you don't fully live in reality... ). Yes the artist creative people are the ones often touched with mental illness especially in America. I feel like there are people who can give so much to the community. It's such a shame 😢 Having no friends to turn on was difficult for him that's probably one of his passion. It's the start of feeling persecute. The start of living on your own may be the start of schizophrenia or downfall to be hospitalized. And when he met his friend who was a girl things have been difficult for him to handle bc I think he wasn't prepared. I wish he can have friends who understand him : that's very important bc we are social human we need to be surrounded : thank u for being there for him. 19:28 may God bless you Maurice.
    I am thankful his mom still want him at her home as his age : not every parent would do the same ! Yes distraction is part of the anxiety. I love what her mother said at the end. I hope he never experienced the path of suicide 🙏🏾
    Late to finish this video but Thank U for this state of mind Maurice Benard. I still love this intro all the hard work you put in to help the community of mental health !

    I was a psych tech at a Behavioral health unit lockdiwn unit. We had to restraint, meducated and put in the room. The worst was seeing peopke hping through electro shock therapy. I sent people away in cabs with a voucher. They had to go to the address the hospital gave to the cab company.
    It had to be Adderall. Ativan is a benzodiazepene

    That was what I worked with aksi. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Changing yiur thought patterns and behaviors. Like you're an addict and you get out of rehab if you go back to the house for all the people that are doing drugs are chances are you're going to start doing them again so your cognitive behavior is getting away from those people and changing your way of living. And it applies to people differently

      Johnny is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior 🙏. CA is a soft on crime state and lacks resources for metal health and substance abuse Homelessness is out of control. One of their own got taken from his family. Hopefully the actors of CA will start to push back politically. There are many conservative actors fearful of expressing their views! F that!

      I'm so sorry to hear that @Kare1949. It's such a horrible thing to witness that my heart goes out to you. I just read an interesting suggestion from a neurosurgeon who says the best way to stop a panic attack is to put a bag of ice on the back of your neck. It shocks the nervous system and brings reality back quickly. If you can't do the ice, jumping in a cold shower or putting your face in cold water. You get the idea. It's worth a try. I know Jake says he's going to do it next time. 🥰

    • @laurettemccook4484
      @laurettemccook4484 Місяць тому +2

      Hi @judyformica9592. first of all, thank you for watching State of Mind and for commenting on our interview. I'm sorry you had that feeling about me but I'm honestly not surprised. When you have a mental illness, or live with someone with a mental illness, your life changes or adjusts to life in a new way. Jake has trouble expressing himself these days, mostly because of his medication. Schizophrenia also is constantly introducing odd thoughts and twisting reality in your head so it's hard to stay on topic. That's where I've stepped in over the years ...kind of like a translator, helping Jake get his thoughts through. We have a deal when we do interviews or book signings. When he looks at me, or stops talking then that's my cue to step in and keep the conversation going until he feels able to join in. So much to take in but I guess I wanted to explain a bit what life is like on our end. And thank you for sending us peace and happiness. That means a lot.🥰
