No knock on the film itself, however, "the best black movie" is far from a comedy. YOU just only have the attention span/racial tolerance for black culture in the container of a comedy film.
Do The Right Thing or Malcolm X or Boyz N The Hood or Crooklyn are frontrunners for best black movie. Coming to America clears Friday.
The "best black movie" either has Denzel in it or is directed by Spike Lee. Thems the rules and I don't make em.

It's really not hard to understand. Imagine you're a white dude who lived in India your whole life, and all you ever saw was Indian super-hero movies with Indian actors; sure they'd have their token white guy hero, maybe even two of them, but they were never the star and frankly weren't as cool as most of the other Indian super heroes. Then one day, suddenly there's an all-white superhero movie? You're going to see that movie. And if its even a half-way decent movie, you're going to love it. Because it's catering DIRECTLY to you, in a market that typically doesn't do that. You'd be stoked.
So I get why black people would be super jazzed about BP. But me being white, and not particularly into superhero movies, feel no draw to see it. Because it's not made for me. I am not the target audience. And that's ok. Movies are allowed to have target audiences.
Sh*t gets weird when someone tries to insinuate or outright accuse me of some wrongdoing for not being interested in that movie. And when these movies that are made specifically for a black audience include a bunch of dog-whistle racism towards white people, that's not cool. I don't care about any justifications someone tries to make for why that stuff is in the movie. Either racism is bad, or it isn't. You gotta choose. And if you're the kind of person that makes excuses for racism towards white people, who says its ok when the racism is going one way but not the other (or better yet you say it isn't even racism when its going in a certain direction) you are a racist. Period. At least have the integrity to admit it.
And the white people who gush about BP being the greatest movie in the world, and go in on that weird self-flagellation/humiliation sh*t like Matt was talking about, are troubled in the head. Normal, mentally stable white people do not claim them. They are not with us.

Like ALL of it. From ever happening.
And maybe dont have them decide on their nation's leadership with an MMA fight. Maybe your leaders should be decided by a better test than who can throw a punch while standing in a puddle. The entire government was overthrown by a single man who was angry. He had no army, no technology, no popular vote, no super power....just an angry guy

Maybe dont have the nation's elite live in a high tech palace while the rest of the nation lives in huts...that's some warlord, Idi Amin-type wealth-poverty gap. I always thought Black Panther was a joke to trick black people into cheering for over the top racial stereotypes. Futuristic space aged African civilization, but they still use spears, have have gladiatorial combat to choose their king. I mean the first five minutes of the movie has rap, basketball, and a black on black violence. It's wild few people see this stuff.

I liked the first one. I do take issue with the second one. Chadwick Boseman's own family said that they should recast the character. I also thought that they could have Michael B. Jordan come back and assume the role of the New Black Panther until T'Challa's son is ready to take over the mantle. At the end of the story in the 1st one it seemed like there was an understanding between the two adversaries, and T'Challa's death could have helped him understand a different path.

I don't watch comic book movies, but I remember the outrage. Ironically it wasn't so much from the "anti-woke" people because they were kind of at a nadir at the time, but just from people who were upset that people who hate comic book movies didn't like yet another comic book movie. I'm not saying no one hated it because it was a nearly all-black cast, but those people were just drowned out.

We gotten into a deep Converstaion on the Black Panther and how modern writer don't understand him and how sense now he became sort of a symbol the black community, some of the more progressive writers start putting more ideas into him so he can stand for more stuff rather then stuff that a king of a foreign nation in africa would care about, with them forgetting about the African cultures he inspire from to them trying to make a more ideoloized culture.

From a production standpoint, it def deserves praise. Having so many Black people in front of the camera and behind the scenes creating a huge box-office success is great and noteworthy. The movie itself is fine. Black Panther's arc was much more compelling in Civil War, plus his suit looked 1,000 times better. The soundtrack is great. Killing off Klaw was a bad idea because Serkis was really good in that role, and should've kept appearing throughout the MCU as a minor foil. I don't much care for Michael B Jordon. I think he's very handsome like most folks in the MCU, but not a very interesting actor. The first couple of one-on-one fight scenes were awesome, and the last should've been the same, not the CGI mush it turned out to be.
