I'm a Brown alum, and this is an accurate and thoughtful explanation of Brown's educational philosophy as well as its genesis. The university's curriculum is unique amongst its peer institutions. Prospective students should carefully consider whether this approach to higher education will suit them. Some students thrive. Other students find the lack of structure difficult to navigate. My friends from Brown are extremely talented, resourceful, and have a strong sense of individuality.
I visited Brown about a week ago, I liked it, especially the town itself, Providence, SO AWESOME. That week I was all over the New England area, including New York (Manhattan) and I have to admit that Providence RhodeIsland was my favorite place, it was so perfect and intriguing and I want to move there for school.
I know Brown is a good school. I'm a PhD candidate at Princeton at the moment. Couldn't resist a shot across Brown's bow, but all kidding around aside, excellent university. Cornell, on the other hand....:)
"The Ivy League is really nothing more than a football club"???!!! The Ivy League WAS nothing more than a football club, but is now a collection of american schools that set educational standards for the entire world, and each school while different in many ways are also alike in many ways.
amishmike1 Good enough for John D. Rockefeller, JFK Jr. And most notable a man who changed the world - Ted Turner (even though he didn't graduate, because his a-hole father didn't approve of his major and pulled the funds to finish). And don't forget - John Krazinski!

So essentially, Brown is the junior college of the Ivy League. Thought Cornell had that honor.
