I love her and this song. My favorite. I play it quite often. Everything about it from her voice to the melody/rhythm of my music is so touching and beautiful. And for many relatable.
This song really shows true love hurts, and love is never an ending thing. Having planned ths whole camping trip out just so the departure was a graceful act...is awesome.

Friend of mine works as an on-air personality for a radio station that hosted an in-studio acoustic solo performance of this song in front of a very small audience. This was just after her breakup with Jason Mraz, so the emotions were still raw and she did shed a tear. Not a dry eye in the house by the end of the song.
jason mraz is a cool dude, but he's crazy to let go of this beautiful and talented woman.
This was my breakup song in 2013. It really healed me and strangely enough I have wonderful memories listening to this.

The vow has changed its sacred ways these days.
Wow....I was in Tristan's position 3 years ago. Engament failed cause she broke it off for absolutely no/unknown reason. Then 3 years later she hit me up to reconnect the bridge, but its too late.
I am currently dealing with what you just described. I had this amazing connection with this guy for about 2 years; but he was immature when it came to making decisions. He said he wanted to get married, but there were too many things in the way. He tried for a long time to keep me around by lying about his intentions and dangling empty; asking me to accept the ambiguity . But I had enough. We parted ways for five years. After a failed marriage and false starts with a few new women he came back into my life. He wants it all back just as he remembers. And now he is promising this time its the real deal. Now he knows I was what he had wanted and needed all this time. As much as I still love him there is this sad realization that its too late. I dealt with this already and shed enough tears. I haven't found the courage to let him go. I am unhappy being back with him. So listening to this song until I figure it all out. I hope things are better for you though.
I hope you went on to realize that you are better than him and don't need him because he sounds like he didn't appreciate your worth. It's not just about HIM wanting what you once had and what he wants, but you too. Did he ever think about that himself?

So basically, the guy (who is based on Jason Mraz) made her think that they were going on some kind of romantic trip, brought her to the place where they either first met or began their relationship, and set up a nice camping spot, all while he was basically writing a dear john letter to her? What was the point of going on the nature hike, going on a romantic walk on a beach during a sunset, and then taking photos with her, if he was only going to dump her afterwards? He built up her expectations so high only to shatter it at the climax. That is so cowardly and quite possibly the most cold-heated, and honestly maliciously cruel, way to end a relationship. You can't be that naive to plan such an ill-intended break up subconsciously he had to have wanted to hurt her.
