  • In-depth tour of the Golden Computer Arcade in Hong Kong. This is a Computer Center Mall in Hong Kong. It's nuts. I've never seen so much gaming and PC stuff under one roof. This computer mall is jam packed with PC parts, motherboards, cases, graphics cards, console video game stuff, and of course a healthy selection of bootleg items. Really sick place!

I went here in the early 90s when I passed through HK. Crazy to see that it's still around. I remember it was darker back then, like you were walking through a dungeon, and tons of pirated software.

I know this is old, but for the basement floor theres actually still a big half of it he didn't explore in the video... O_O. Also, theres a pricing website for all these little shops in Hong Kong and almost half of the total buyers get just ask prices and order on WhatsApp and go on site just to retrieve it. There are some shops that only provides online ordering services. One thing to note is that the staff might seem approaching at the start but will get irritated quite soon as Hong Kong is very fast paced and we generally don't like to waste time (lol).
I know this because I am a Hong Kong resident for more than 5 years and I visit golden regularly.

just go on price.com.hk and search for the components, u will see the shops that sell them (along with their location and contacts)
useful tip: ask in chat (theres a handy button to start a chatroom with the seller) and see if they have stock, and if you order online u usually get a 10hkd discount as well

A good way to do fast math is by using tricks. 7.75 is very close to 8, and 8 is 2 by 2 by 2. So 6000 divided by 2 is 3000, then by 2 again is 1500, then again is 750, which is pretty close to 774.19 (6000 divided by 7.75). While obviously not exact, this system helps me a lot in a bunch of situations and gives me a quick ballpark figure. Anyway, nice vid as usual!

I know I'm not the first to point this out, but you missed a third level. As the guy told you, you needed to go outside where you went, then hang a left out the door and head a few hundred feet down that side of the building. A staircase would've taken you up 1.5 floors to the one above the higher of the two you were in.
Also, an easy way to get a ballpark on the currency conversion from HK$ to US$: Divide by 10 (ie. HK$780 = US$78) and then add another 20% (ie. US$78 x 1.2 = US$78 + US$7.8 + US$7.8 = US$93.6). That'll put you fairly close to the actual answer (US$100.64 at your 7.75:1 exchange rate) and the math is exceptionally easy to do in your head.

Arcade usage in HK is referenced to British noun for coverage passage or part of /or building with arched roof. You need to barter with them to get a better price. They see a tourist coming and their eyes see $$ signs. Shenzen north of Hong Kong is where most of this stuff is manufactured, there is a market there worth the visit. Need to take the train to get there and maybe a visa. $1000HK for a DS game card is crazy.

The closest thing I have ever seen to anything like this are these kind of discount malls that get set up in former grocery stores. They'd sell anything. Like jewelry in one divided zone and food in another. Then a dollar store. Next to that would be clothing. And then a random arcade with old games. But nothing quite like this place. I bet their electric meter spins the digital version of that rotary dial like an amusement ride. Everywhere you look, there's another light bulb or LED. Hardly a spot for a shadow to form at.
So, John goes to Hong Kong to get a DS charger. To think, I just went to e-Bay for a GBA charger. Price was insane. Maybe ninety-nine cents with the S&H.

Guess I hit Post too soon.
Was looking at Drones, a few weeks ago. Seems to be several ranges. Like the thousand dollar versions that make those amazing shots that show up on some UA-cam videos. Then, it drops down to a hundred dollar range where the flight times are very short and the cameras dip into lower DPI's. Not sure. 3.0 or something like that. There even seems to be a $30-$50 range that are just toys. But some still have 0.3 DPI cameras in them.
Now, I have a bit of an idea on what that guy from Game Center CX was talking about when he mentioned this one micro shop that sold nothing but classic console games that were still sealed. There's hardly a thing like that to compare to, here in the US. The Flea Markets..._maybe_.

So I used to live in Hong Kong in the late 80's.. I got wind of this Golden Arcade in Sham Shui Po so we used to go down there and piracy was rampant there. We could bring a fist full of floppies and almost any stall there would copy any game out of the book. Every stall would have 4 or 5 floppy drives stacked up and a few books from which you could pick the games out of. Police would frequently raid the arcade but it didn't stop them. I would have been about 14 then. I didn't know the danger from buying pirated games. Mostly people would overlook what was going on there. You could get lucky but in most cases you could cop a ping pong or stoned virus on at least 1 floppy out of 10. The alure of this arcade isn't what it was before the Internet.. Back when all you could do to get games was to go to places like this..
