    Back in the day apartments and condos has rooftop antennas for OTA reception. Cable companies came in and offered to rewire buildings to provide internet and cable for nominal amounts. As recently as early in the century my Comcast bill was under $25 a month for television and internet. Times change and with todays inflated prices of TV and internet HOAs need to revisit this arrangement and seriously reconsider dusting off those old OTA antennas.

      Developers and local governments like HOAs, and despite homebuyer complaints, buyers are tolerating the terms of HOA homes. Try finding a non-HOA home in a tight housing market, there may not be any to choose from.

The only thing we have are fines from the town if you let your place turn into a total pig pin enough for others to complain about it, or it's a health hazard to the community, otherwise you do you, & that's the way it should be!!

      @@dlewis9760 Yep these people choose to live in HOAs, and apartments with all these terms, sign the legal binding contracts, then want to complain without ever having read the fine details of the contract they signed up for, so to me it's like someone knowing taking a job as a sewer inspector, and then complaining about how gross it is!! 🤦‍♂

    • @njlauren
      @njlauren 2 дні тому

      @@dlewis9760
      There is a thing in contract law that says if the two parties to the contract don't have equal power in it, it is not a fair contract. They have you over the barrelhead, they say either you take the Internet and cable or you dont get the apartment. Restrictions are one thing, but forcing ppl to pay for something outside the complex itself is another. If you are in an HOA where homeowners pay for garbage pickup, they cannot force you to take some trash hauling service.
      Originally these internet had cable deals were done bc basically you had no choice, and you were getting it pretty cheaply by doing that. These days when there is competition, including 5g internet and streaming, and you have to pay exorbitant internet and tv from the cable company when you could get it cheaper ( or not at all), it is highway robbery. Not to mention that the HOA likely is getting a nice kickback.

    I understand that some people in a HOA do not want Internet or Cable but the bulk pricing for those that do can be pretty good.
    My ex lives in a small HOA complex with twenty households. Comcast came into the neighborhood in late 2023 and they signed a group two year deal for Internet and Cable which per household is way less than what I pay for just Comcast Internet to my house. There was no installation costs either.
    So she gets the same 1Gb Internet speed (free combo modem/Wifi 6 router) plus level 2 Cable and still pays over $40 less per month than me. She is very happy with the deal and there was only a few households that voted against the deal.

    Luke - your information about the Verizon auto-pay discount reduction is incorrect. Legacy FiOS plans that are no longer being sold are having the auto-pay discount reduced, however, the same tiers (300 meg, 500 meg and 1 gig) are offered in the currently available "myPlan" version of these fiber plans and those are NOT having the auto-pay reduced. I have one of the older non-myPlan versions of the 300 meg tier and received a notice on my bill. I was able to go online and choose the newer plan (same price at least in my case), but the auto-pay goes back to $10. There is NO requirement that the only way to continue to get the $10 auto-pay discount is to switch to 5G home internet. Hope that helps!

  • @NightHawke
    @NightHawke 2 дні тому +1

    Why would the FCC have anything to say about CABLE TV and internet providers, let alone particular contracts with HOAs or colleges? Y'all got to negotiate that noise on your own. Rattle some cages and kick down some doors if you're that upset about the extra and unavoidable charge. The squeaky wheel does still get the grease, ya know.
    Feh! One of the few reasons I still have Prime is because of their original series (The Boys, Invincible, Reacher). If they were foolish enough to shell out half a BILLION dollars for the rights to the dregs of Tolkien's work, that's on them! Sports is not the end-all, be-all of TV, broadcast, cable OR streaming. FOOTBALL may be, or rather NFL (let's see how the next USXWTFL season goes!), but are there THAT many imports in America to make soccer coverage profitable? I severely doubt that.

    The reasoning when I hear of something offered by Amazon Prime as being *free* is puzzling, as a person not a paid subscriber to Amazon Prime cannot access the content.
    Wouldn't it be more truthful if it was stated that something being offered by Amazon Prime is restricted to those individuals already paying into the service. In the case of the PBS stations being offered by Amazon, a small sliver of the paid Amazon Prime subscription fee is providing the means for the PBS stations streaming on Amazon.

      Yeah, I'm not signing up for Amazon Prime (I don't buy much off of Amazon) just to watch a 'free' program, or have to pay an additional fee to watch something else. If you remember the Godzilla Minus One movie from late 2023, Amazon has exclusive USA rights to that and the only way you can watch it is through Prime with an additional fee. No DVD/Blu-ray has been released yet in the USA.
