I don't get much time to game these days, but I have a Steam Deck and a few other handhelds. The sleep/rest function on them make it easy to pick up and play in small sessions through out the day whenever I do get a chance. I have a gaming pc, but haven't touched it much since I got my Steam Deck.
Same here. I bought a PSP 2000 and dropped 60 games into it. Never used it. Sold it. I Bought and Ambernicc G35XX. Barely used it. Collecting dust. So yeah. Not gonna get the Ally anytime soon. I also figured the ROG Ally + eGPU for $1200…..but even that’s far out. Lol
I am actually selling my rog ally as well. I wanted to see if I preferred it over the Steam deck and while it is more powerful for some reason after testing it for a couple of months I barely use it meanwhile when I started playing my steam deck again I use it all the time. Now I use my steam deck during my lunch at work, I play it at home when I don’t feel like turning on my PC, or if I’m not the driver and I’m going on a long drive. Or even like yesterday went with the family to shop, I got done early so I chilled in the car with the kids and played steam deck while they played the switch. I think the issue for me with the ally is not just the SD card cause you can just put a bigger sad, my issue is I work in IT and sometimes when I get home I don’t want to deal with Windows OS, this why often I don’t turn on my gaming pc and just turn on my ps5, and I think that’s why I reach for the steam deck more often than anything cause it’s very much console like, I even setup PS remote play on it so if the main TV is being used I can just remote play, or I can just play my steam games, or play Xbox cloud games.
Recently acquired an ally from a friend. I recently discovered it is useful for my MPC live. I used it to move sounda, sample music, etc. Gaming..... I guess but it's great for my musical work flow.
In bed, in living room to be around family, at work during downtime and break time, during a gap between my first job and second job. Out of home I usually play in 20-30 minute gaps but at home I play though AAA games. My PC is not that powerful & it’s way less work to just push a button and get back right into a game. I had a Steam Deck for a year & upgraded to oled version as soon as it got released & loving it
Recently grabbed a steam deck OLED and been having a bunch of fun remote playing my Xbox and my epic games library. Typically play a bit at work or laying down before going bed
Some people will never understand the power of this handheld like ROG ally. it help me again to play during my busy days. Only Fatherhood or busy at work issues will only understand this and Some people will never get what I mean from what I said since they have a lot of time with little responsibilities in life.
I feel you. Since I have a gaming laptop and a Switch, I play my Switch when I have to wait not for long somewhere and my laptop when I'm in a hotel or in some other place where I can just sit and plug it, so I don't see the need for me to get an Ally since I can play PC games in a much better way with my laptop. If I didn't have either of those, I think the Ally would be a great choice.
I have a PC and a PS5 at home, so the Ally fits my lifestyle in two specific scenarios: 1) travelling. It's good to have it when there are no other devices capable of playing games are around 2) before going to bed, cutting down on my backlog of games. It's perfect for playing those older titles I always wanted to play, but didn't make time for due to other AAA releases.
I have Steam Deck OLED. I play it for hour or two when I have a free moment. For me I play it to get away from my computer because I normally am on my computer all day. So I appreciate being able to play away from there in any position I want to be in.
it's the same story with my steam deck when I decided to just sell it... It's just that I have so little time to even play anymore, between work, keeping a social life, exercise, I guess life just happens and it's not the same anymore like when I was young... The most annoying thing for me is because I play my steam deck rarely and when I do pick it up to play again, I'm at lost with the game's controls and story specially if what I was playing was an RPG and have to re-orient myself again for like about half an hour, but it is what it is if you can't game everyday XD
also let me add, if you’re short on time. This won’t add “significant” value to your time. You’re still plastered to a screen and now your hands are occupied. I’m a dad btw two kids
I use my steam deck at home and at work. I don't like sitting in front of the laptop for too long so with the steam deck I can game in any position I want
I used them 100 of the time at home they never leave my house. If i have to stay at the hospital is the only situation i would bring my steamdeck with me.
Use my steam deck 95% of the time in my bed. Occasionally I'll use it on the sofa and very rarely waiting for or on the train. I've tried using it connected to my TV, but it has an issue with audio occasionally cutting out through the dock. Bluetooth controller stability has been pretty awful as well making less ideal to play hooked up unless I have a 3 meter cable. Mostly use it to play cosy games, less intense indie games, Xbox 360 era titles and as an emudeck for ps2 and ps1. I'm fairly reluctant to use it on recent AAA games just for the loss of fidelity or mouse and keyboard set up.
I use my deck mainly for emulation, even more so switch emulation. It’s just very good for it. Outside of that, it’s really great for trips, if I have downtime at work (I work overnight shift), and not too bad for media consumption if I’m just laying in bed at night and don’t want to use my phone, so I just mount it to my bed in a holder. Not everyone has a use case for a handheld, but for me it works. Would I prefer it over my pc? Hell no lol, but it is super comfy to play on and enjoy lite games.
@@JD-773 Because you can emulate a lot of different consoles and play PC games, it's an overall better device and buying a switch in 2023 would be really dumb since it's incredibly outdated hardware and is due for a replacement soon, maybe even this coming year.
I do have an XG Mobile 2022 with the 3090 but I don't own a ROG ally, instead I have the ROG Flow X13 (which on it's own has RTX 2070ti). Honestly I love it, it's now my one device PC/Desktop combo and I was thinking of getting the ROG Ally and rid of the X13 to see if I could even use a smaller form factor when I'm travelling. The honest downside is the fact that there's no keyboard and I can't really do work on it on the go like I do with the X13. In terms of gaming, you pretty much can play any AAA games on Med settings with the on-board 2070ti, and with the 3090 XG Mobile you pretty much can play anything.
I have certain games on my SteamDeck that I exclusively play on my SD. It means that I can play these games in bed, when I am away with work, or on the toilet 😂😂 Or even sometimes when I just want to lay on the sofa playing some games.
@@James-tw5vy I spend 30% of my life in hotels so to me it’s invaluable! Have an SD card with windows and COD on it, so I can still play with friends when away (be it badly)

Same with my switch I was like playing it for 6-7 weeks and then It’s just sitting in my house somewhere not playing anything
Bought the ally twice and returned both times. Idk I guess I’m like you it didn’t fit my use case, but everyone’s use case is different.
