Advice on Removing a Stuck Steering Dampener/Stabilizer. 2015 F250

- I had difficulty removing my OEM steering dampener on my 2015 F250. Many forums I searched through were filled with stories of people using torches to heat theirs enough to hammer it loose. Thankfully, I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a “pickle fork,” which still took some muscle but allowed me to break my steering dampener free.
Got mine out in a fraction of a second by grabbing my Ramset powder nail gun, installing a #4 load, NO NAIL, put he working end on the bolt end, pressed the trigger and that thing shot out of the rod like it was running for its life. Work smarter not harder.
@@deannewbern6810 That’s awesome! Thats super creative problem solving right there! 💪🏽 I don’t reckon you got a video of that in action?
@@d.williams6891 No video. It was a spur of the moment thought and, wasn't sure of the outcome. However, if anyone tries this, use a #3 load and put a piece of wood or something in between the bolt and the radiator hose because when I did this it shot out of there hard and hit that hose. No damage done thankfully. Thank you for the reply Williams.
Thanks here cause i am beating the hell out of mine right now with no luck was even starting to think it was threaded in the steering arm for frig sake!
Yikes! I feel your pain, I was feeling the desperation when I was trying to remove mine. Hopefully my method works for you! Worst case, like someone said in another comment, applying heat to it will be the next step if brute force doesn’t get it. Thank you for watching!
Good deal!
@@derekelijah8169 I hope this helped you out! Thanks for stopping by.
Hey great video …..
What pick a fork size is !!!!
Thank you for watching! The one I use in this video is a 16 inch ball joint separator I got at Harbor Freight.
Thanks for answering brother!!
I will keep u posted
@@joselo2uy Absolutely! Good luck and let me know if it works out for your needs! 😄
I tried but the one on my 98 zj was basically welded on and i accidentally destroyed the threads with a 2lb hammer lol
@@minercrafterzz DANG that sucks haha! Did you wind up getting it off? My last resort on an old Dodge once was to get an angle grinder with a cut off wheel for the stud and a punch to knock it out. 😅
Heat the stabilizer, it pops right out.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
Not everyone has readily access to blow torches bruh
Tried the heat. Heated it for a couple of minutes and it popped right off. Thanks 😅
I tried the pickle fork method with a sledge and mine is still stuck, I replaced my drag link and tie rod ends, and my steering stabilizer two years ago, and I don't know how this job supposed to be 10 minutes turns into a 6 hour job, pickle fork didn't work, I sprayed the fuck out of the whole stud with knocker loose, and pb blaster and let it soak for 2 hours and presoaked it again, tried hammering on it no budge. I kinda gave up already.
Damn! Sorry to hear you’re having so much trouble, I hate when that happens on what’s supposed to be an easy job, especially if those components are only 2 years old. Hmm, do you have a handheld propane torch or access to an oxyacetylene torch? You may have to apply some heat to it to try breaking it free if the hammer and fork alone isn’t cutting it.
I found an easier way. Rent an adjustable pitman arm puller from autozone.
@@Google123ABC Smart move! I need to add one of those to my tool box!
A little demonstration would have been more helpful
Hey Eddy, thanks for stopping by and for the feedback! I’m sorry I didn’t capture the actual removal process of this. I didn’t think to record my attempt of removing it until after I gave it a shot and was successful. Essentially all I did was wedge the pickle fork in between the stabilizer the mounting point and it broke loose after 3-4 hammer hits.
