UNLV has two D1 transfers (starting goalie and guy who scored twice) and 3 D3 transfers. Everyone else has only ever played ACHA hockey. Wild.

You know that this is a team sport, right? So, bringing in transfers is not how you build a winning team or a winning culture. Transfers are the biggest gambles.

@@DarrellDavis-f9yscoring 2 goals and getting a .922 save percentage against a d1 team helps a winning culture, also the d3 transfers playing good, I don't know what your on about, people are gonna start wanting to commit to play at unlv after this and their gonna have a winning culture

There are ex d3 players on most club teams. Also, sometimes if there is a d1 team kids will start playing club if they get cut or unhappy with playing time. That being said, this game is crazy!

@@shawnerickstad6974 Obviously there is not a huge talent gap. People are predisposed to certain capacities, but things like this are made. They are built and developed, not express. It is not unbelievable, UNLV is a D1 program. This is not Canada or Northern and Eastern Europe or Eurasia and Title lX is a thing so....yes.

Former UNLV Hockey alumni (played with the current coaching staff) .. this program is growing fast and continues to progress year over year. People talk down on the ACHA, but the D1 league does have competitive teams (there's just a large drop-off between programs) and that's why more of the top clubs are doing these cross-over exhibition games, the NCAA programs get to see what a lot of their guys with less ice-time can do, and the ACHA program gets exposure + a measuring stick to see how far they are from making the jump. The main difference will be the roster depth, NCAA will roll 4 good lines, whereas an ACHA program will roll 2.

I played ACHA D2 and, yes, Top level D1 ACHA teams absolutely have studs that could have played NCAA. But this is still a massive upset. In theory, line 4 on DU should be more skilled than line 1 on 99% of ACHA teams. Especially given how good DU is and how many NHL draft picks they have.
