Global National: May 12, 2024 | Wildfires prompt new evacuations across Western Canada
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2024
- In tonight’s top story: A fire north of Flin Flon, in northern Manitoba, exploded in size overnight. Towering flames forced 700 people in the community of Cranberry Portage to flee Saturday night. The fire activity there is extreme and strong winds mean it could spread quickly. It’s one of a number of wildfires threatening communities across Manitoba, Albert and B.C. Julia Foy reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has replaced his defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, on the same day as a deadly explosion at an apartment block near the Ukrainian border. Russian media say at least nine people have been killed after an intercepted Ukrainian missile hit the building in Belgorod. It happened not far from where Russia claims to have seized villages inside Ukraine’s border. Redmond Shannon explains.
There is growing anxiety in Gaza over Israel’s expected assault on Rafah. Despite Israeli orders to evacuate, there’s almost nowhere safe for people in the besieged city to go. At the same time, there is a dangerous shortage of humanitarian aid. As Mackenzie Gray reports, Israel remains steadfast in its plan despite growing international criticism.
A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against the Canadian Armed Forces. It’s to help right the wrongs committed against members who say they’ve suffered racial discrimination in the military. But as Heidi Petracek reports, some say it misses the mark.
And finally, on this Mother’s Day one family is celebrating a reunion four decades in the making - one that spans three countries. As Gloria Henriquez explains, it all started with an unexpected gift.

Parliament needs to pass a Bill calling for life in prison for foresty arson.
Parliament is in full support of these "wildfires"
@@paulevans8348 why do you figure that?
And the liberals still blaming climate crisis for them despite the arrests made for arson.
Yet liberals still haven’t invested in a water bomber for necessary equipment or manpower to fight these “events”. They just whine and use the fires to gaslight their scam tactics for carbon tax increases
Arson seems to be the scapegoat for various posters, on the increasing scale of forest fires. Could this possibly be conspiracy and disinformation meant to deflect from global warming??
Who said it was arson?
I don’t understand why we are sending billions of dollars overseas while our country burns both figuratively and literally.
Because they want to destroy our Country
First action of T-dope was to get rid of our water bombers because they cost a whopping 1 million a year to maintain. Here we are. They literally WANT the country to burn

Can’t they arrest who start the fires already ?!?!
They can’t catch a serial killer on hwy of tears, how are they gonna catch someone throwing a cigg butt out the window. ?
You mean arrest themselves
Arrest fossil fuel industry execs - and fossil fuel activists in and out of government. Climate change is increasing wildfire frequency and intensity.
@@bicmitchum1368 exactly !
They won't arrest themselves
The wildfires should prompt the federal government to get serious about crime and arrest these arsonists and stop paying others to set them!
Why does Nino on the arson bandwagon
Most are set accidentally not intentionally
What kind of garbage is this?
Tin foil hat alert! 🚨
Stop spreading disinformation! Only 1 to 3% of wildfires are caused by arson. BC gov stats show that in BC 60% of wildfires are caused by lightning. Climate change is increasing temperatures, increasing drought, and making wildfires much harder to fight. For every 1 degree of temperature rise there is a 12% increase in lightning activity.
Proof?
FEEL SORRY FOR WILDLIFE,!!WHO IS GOING TO EVACUATE WILDLIFE,,!!!
Are these arson fires being investigated? They start somewhere.
'Inside job' as they say.

Soooo the carbon tax isn't working yet? 🙄
Carbon dioxide has a half life of about 120 years, so no. We wouldn’t expect it to yet. Still, that’s no reason to stop reducing emissions.
Global emissions have increased since Canada’s rediculous tax cash grab. Canada has no affect on global climate change.
@@BudzzableRides Actually, emissions will be significantly reduced with the EV transition. Remember how everyone was saying: yeah, but what about China!?
Meanwhile, China has over 50% of the battery market. A leader in solar technology, and is transitioning faster than almost any western country.
The rate of increase has decreased significantly, as EVs take over it’ll begin to drop. Takes time to reinvent the economy, what did you expect!? 😆
Nope we better hurry and pay more😉😉
@@krisrooney2283 it’s only started to hurt. What will you do when the tax triples in 2030? Better have a plan to reduce your emissions. Won’t have sympathy when you are crying.

BTW, someone should explain to you that the world isn't flat before they teach you about climate.
Devils not activists
It’s murder to start fires 🔥
@YuckerBeats You must have gotten rid of everything you own by now. LOL.
If someone starts a fire either through haphazard negligence or intent, they are a public hazard and should face severe consequences. I'm not kidding. This is serious. In a single event, Canadians' public health, wellbeing, investments, and properties are profoundly impacted.
According to the forestry and parks ministry only a fraction of a percentage point has since been attributed to arson for 2023 in Alberta.
Remember the times when there were no fires, you know like never in world history.
It`s rained pretty much 7 days off and on for the last 2 weeks here where i am in Alberta. First time was about 4 days straight, snow, rain, wet snow and cold. The day after the rain, there were three fires out of control. Then it rained again. Then the fires started again. Then it rained yesterday, and we`ll see if any start today. Definitely not a classic fire season. A few days ago we had , in 48 hours, a months worth of rain in a normal year for our area, and yet, the fires keep starting.
I`m starting to believe the carbon tax is funding the fires, not making it rain….lol
BTW, According to the forestry and parks ministry only a fraction of a percentage point has since been attributed to arson for 2023 in Alberta.
💯 % right the carbon tax is funding the paid arsonists that light these fires your dead on👍

B.c. won't invest in water carrier air planes but will sell their old ones to the states who repair them. B.c. then has to rent them when needed. Kelowna airport could park them and has 3 lakes to pick up water to deliver to burning ares.
And suddenly, the government forgot about the cloud seeding programs the just admitted to
Name the government official that admitted to cloud seeding. Prove you are not making that up. I googled it and came up with nothing.
Ahahaha we are not supposed believe it or know about it ! Kinda funny how Dubai gets flooded from cloud seeding and Brazil is flooded and Canada is on fire! Damn too bad none of these are able to be solved ! Oh wait they can be and the government is probably patting the person that did the fires last year for doing a good job and starting them this year !
Right!!!!🤷🏻
Curious how there does not seem to be fires burning in other parts of the world. Guess only canada has trees!
Wildfires are increasing world-wide due to climate change.
underrated comment for sure. Russia has similar forests to Canada. If it were climate change you would see similar patterns in these regions. You don't. This is clearly purposefully done by bad actors - government or otherwise.
There are many devastating fires in summers in Southern Europe but that part of the world is much drier and in general hotter than any part of Canada (with virtually no snow and little rain year round in South of Europe)... So yes, it is odd that other continents have less events categorized as "wild fires" or "forest fires"....there is some Machiavellian ploy in the works here for sure... One goal would be to discourage ppl from moving outside of large city centres (near US border for example)...destroy any small communities so ppl move away, communities are not revived and eventually the land is available for purchase and development... It's a very long game...ex.Lytton in BC completely burnt to crisp and has significant challenges to rebuild...it was one very suspicious fire...my take on this...sigh...
It's called forced socialism push all people to the same area wake up
Apparently you don’t follow news in Russia.
Arsonists at work again....😢
I’m pretty sure a tree fell on a powerline near Fort Nelson
U cant blame every single fire on arson sometimes it by accident sometimes it people smoking but sometimes also arson so you are sort of wrong and you need to research

I see that liberal programming is working wonders for ya. Don’t forget to hand in everything you own when the feds come to your door.
@@hardcoreherbivore4730 Climate change isn't at fault. CO2 makes plants greener, it doesn't dry them out. The problem was El Nino which directed snow away and left the ground dried out. El Nino is caused by natural processes. Nice try, try again.

Amen 😠🙏
God??? God is the one responsible for setting Canada on fire
How are these fires happening?
Very dry weather even if somebody start a fire by accident is super easy to double in size
Climate change! "The area burned in Canada by wildfires each year has doubled since the 1970s and this is the result of human-caused climate change." - Mike Flannigan, professor of Wildland Fire at the University of Alberta
Well the conditions that make them more likely and more volatile are dry conditions brought on by climate change. The causes are most often lightning, or accidental human causes.
The government is paying someone to set them.
@@garyhaggquist740 Though they are classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as natural disasters, only 10 to 15 percent of wildfires occur on their own in nature. The rest are arson and man made, climate change nothing to do with Arsonists
Arson laws need to be revamped across the country.
To protect churches and historic buildings as well!!
The government isn't going to prosecute the ones they pay to light the fires🤷🏻
Government hard at work setting fires again I see.
CONspiracy Justin Haters hard at work again.
Anything to avoid taking responsibility.
Fort Nelson one is the same one as last year (it was smoking in January), it's so dry up here it never went out. Friday we had huge winds that helped those fires go from underground to raging in no time.
Donnie Creek relit as well. Stoddart Creek one too, but they got that one under control fast. We need RAIN, lots and lots of rain. We barely even got any snow last winter, seeing grass in February. March had like 2 "storms" of 5-10 cm that melted almost immediately after. January we literally saw 17°C (unheard of this far north). The government doesn't need to start fires, mother nature is doing it all on her own.
Yup carbon tax went up they can now hire even more arsonists
Can they stop it with the DEW strikes?
This is pathetic, we know we have forests and high potential of fires in summer. Tax payer dollars should be going toward super scooper planes, what a dumb government
It is the only way to lie about "climate" causing this. Just like when Cali stopped their cleanup to blame fires on Trump, then as soon as Biden was in, went right back the cleaning up the debris. Some politicians will do **anything** to get their way.
They are too busy giving subsidies to oil companies and animal agriculture. 😑
