Awesome terrain, dude! Really cool. Must be awesome to play on. I love that big wizard statue in the middle. I think you forgot that you get wounded if you fail to cast a spell. Also there is a -1 penalty for shooting on the move. I hope you caught that in a future episode. Edit: You caught the "fail spells and get damaged" late in the report.
Wow that must be the video with the most effort put into it of all the miniature games, probably! I had a good tme watching it and you guys definitely had a good time playing the game! The game itself looks and plays very much like Mordheim, just very random because of D20. Wizard + Apprentice + a bunch of henchmen seems like an interesting idea. Great video overall, lovely setup and fantastic atmosphere. Thanks, guys!
That table looks amazing!!! A months hard work well done Ash! Love that one of the warbands is all LotR minis. LOL Really curious about this game as a Mordheim replacement. The Blu-Tac for the steps is a great idea!!! Thanks for putting up this battle report.
I just started playing this game last week so when your buddy said he got to add his will to his spell rolls I was like WHHAAAAAAT!? How did I miss that!? But ok that is not a thing cool. Sigilist was my first thought, but I ended up going elementalist. I am enjoying the game so far though. Really digging these videos and the names you guys gave your warbands :)
This game looks great. Loving the combat system and the campaign system looks like it'll be cool and interesting without letting war bands get overpowered too quickly. Can't wait to see more.
Nice! I played already a few games. It is really nice game. If you moved before shooting the model that is shoot becomes a +1 bonus for inaccuracy. If you fail to cast a spell you should watch on the table, maybe you hurt your self for miss-casting. Optional Rule: A rolled '20' is a critical hit which does double damage.
Nice opener. Your terrain looks awesome! It was nice to see Stan again even it was just a vid. I'd tell you that his defeat was a foregone conclusion and regale you with a tale of a beating he took playing Gothic but he'd probably tell filthy lies about a bunch of games that didn't actually happen. Did I ever tell you how my appreciation for imagined histories stems from my experiences at gaming tables :) ?
Ironically, he gave me his gothic ships recently to add to the studio collection. Now I know their excellent battle record I'll feel less guilty repairing them! ;)
Love the content. If possible, some brighter lights would help bring out the colour of the miniatures and board. In some shots, the figures were dark and indistinct. Really love what you're doing overall- big thumbs up!
This video had me subscribed to your channel, really liking all the content. I love your setup and minis, have to ask where you got those awesome wound counters!
I've got the rules, Dark Alchemy, & Sellsword and have yet to play. Need to choose my warband and get some terrain. Regarding creatures that have "Large" what size bases do they have. I was thinking of a Goblin wizard with animate construct, and for the large construct have a Goblin Mincer (Mantic Kings of War) I just want to see the face of my opponent, when that chases their warband around the table.
Hah, I liked your centerpiece wizard statue so I went to eBay to look for a cheap statue of a wizard to make one of my own... sure enough, the first result is the one you used ;) Great minds...
HEY ASH!! Love your vids! I also love that big tower with the playable top floor in the foreground. The one that you have your crossbow man in. Can you tell me who makes that?
I feel you Stan .... so far all my frostgrave games have been a debacle. Can't get any rolls to go my way and opponent just rolling me into oblivion. Every ... single ... time ...
Hi Ash, I know it’s three years on, but your latest video on your personal contribution to Frostgrave had me looking further into this great game. I’m in Atlantic Canada and so shop at meeplemart for terrain; I read that lots of the terrain was oop back then, my question is where can I get that type of stone terrain now in 2019? I haven’t scoured the internet but I’d love a video on your top 5 terrain go to’s for Frostgrave. Oh yes, and trees ... is there a cheap place to buy pines that don’t cost $30 for one or two? Thanks for all your contributions to this great hobby. - Douglas
Check out the Battlefield in a Box forests for trees. Check your local pet store for stone aquarium terrain! Tons of my Frostgrave collection comes from pet terrain!
the goal of the game is to reach transcendence which you can get if you learn all the spells in your class of magic and then find (not buy or make) a grimoire of a spell that is in your class of magic, then you can improve on it it has a starting casting value of 20, the player who first casts transcendence wins the campaign. you can find the full rules for transcendance in the rulebook
Great looking table, love campaign tabletop games (collected a lot of necromunda models) how fast is the game to play? and how balanced do the rules look when it comes to skills?
+riolenn a There aren't any skills, just spells. Everyone has access to them. Every one can pick from every lore but the opposed one to start. Your School of magician influences how good you are at any given lore... so seeing as everyone starts from the same lists I'd say it's very balanced! BUT: It's a warband game. Balance goes out the window after game 1.
Cool i loved it. Here's a thing though (someone gotta root for the skellies here) if you up the table size to 4x4 shouldnt you adjust their threat range also? Love the table of course but it might also have few more repercussions.
+Isfanyar TheAccursed Yup! If you check the Campaign rules linked in the video description you'll see that a lot of what we learned in this game (we're about 10 in at this point) got applied to the rules going forward. Otherwise the creatures kind of derp around. :) They 'move' on 6" when they deploy now, making them relevant on our 'invisible' 3x3' table.
Great video guys. Have you had a chance to test the campaign system much? I've read there are issues with damage oriented wizards (elementalists) with run away XP issues since killing is the best way to get XP. Does thaw of the lich lord resolve this ? Thanks.
Yeah, Gold is more of a divider than XP. A high level wizard might know more spells, but he has the same amount of actions. I higher level wizard have an easier time casting his spells successfully, but if it hits and thus damage remains the same throughout the game. So only if your strategy relies on your opponent not succeeding in any spell, then you are in trouble. You should probably change your strategy though. So if your opponent make a shooty wizard counter it. The table should make it so you have limited LoS anyways. I had one game where I played a level 0 against a lvl 16. What got me was, that I ha Thiefs and Thugs, and he had Treasure Hunters and Templars.
Fantastic board and terrain! I've just gotten into this game myself but I'm not satisfied with my terrain after seeing yours ;)What matt or board are you using. I was looking into getting the cigar box winter ruins and building a few foamboard buildings; any recommendations of buildings on the market? Yours look the biz but I think I'll have to do this on the cheap Anyway love your production and you both have a gift in front of the cameraWell done...looking forward to more
Love the look and concept of the game, but the modifiers seem very small (only +/- , 1-4 on a D20) to the dice rolls, does that make this game feel really luck based or swingy when you're rolling off against each other each time?
+D6Damager They stack really fast once you start adding things like spells, pile ins and whatnot to a fight. When your Treasure Hunter is swinging at +9 because of his magic sword, strength spell and an additional fighter bonus it's way less swingy. Even goombas like Thugs can even the odds against more powerful soldiers just by ganging up. I like that there's always a chance though, nothing is guaranteed. Some games the fights are almost forgone... in this one everyone has at least a chance and it leaves ROOM to stack modifiers through clever combinations and movement.
Ash, could you help me out and let me know what model camera you are using? I am in the market for a new one and I really love how crisp your vids are. Also, damn this video! I am so gona spend my whole paycheck on frostgrave materials lol. Looks liek a great game to get the friends into as an alternative to pathfinder.
+Guerrilla Miniature Games (Ash Barker) I particularly liked the tower, as well as the thing with the pool of green stuff, oh, and the broken aqueduct (or bridge)!
+Johnny Wraith Tower is OOP GW. Pool is OOP Gale Force 9 Battlefield in a Box stuff. The Broken Aquaduct/Bridge is pet store Acquarium stuff available in any chain Pet shop!
Looks fun but I don't like the game so much. The most interesting thing to me is the Frostgrave Soldiers Box wich is FANTASTIC for Mordheim players. It comes with pieces to make up to 20 models + plenty of spare parts to make conversions. Enough to make an entire Mercenaries warband and some Witch Hunters or Hired Swords. The upcoming Cultist Box looks like it will make a great Possessed band.
Lots of chatter, but little explanation. At any point do you go back and say what you did wrong? Such as casting a spell while in melee (namely teleport) or activating in the soldier phase by alternating soldiers or taking damage for missing spell rolls?
Hmm, interesting game with some very nice ideas, but the combat system downright sucks. Considering all the hype surrounding this game I was expecting something much better. Oh well.
Most. Anticipated. Episode. Ever!
it's weird I started watching this episode and when it ended I'd ordered the rulebook and like 60 bucks worth of reaper minis. damn it!
+FerreusVir It's pretty boss. :) Hope you enjoy it!
+FerreusVir I feel your wallets pain I'm hooked too :)
"oh the book is so cheap we can play this with minis we already have" ... $100 of reaper minis later...
+Jacob L That's the line i used on my wife to convince haha
The blu-tack use is brilliant. Must get some :D
Awesome video! Going through all your Frostgrave videos a second time.
+Gammolol Thanks dude!
Love the channel. Really enjoying some of your older games. I think we need to see more fantasy tabletop rpg playthroughs!!
Just started with Frostgrave, it's great to see it played on such a beautiful board. Definitely given me inspiration for my own!
can not wait until the next Frostgrave! Definetly LOVE it!
YES LAWD!! Been waiting to see you play this ever since it came out! Great work over there Ash, looking forward to seeing more!
+Farscyth Myridian Lots more to come. :)
Haven't been this interested since Ash was regularly doing plain Jane Fantasy Warhammer vids. Great work man!
+Erebus66 Thanks man. We're really enjoying the game. We'll be doing a whole thing for Thaw in November!
More swingy, but not necessarily more random. In FG you have a 5% chance of an extreme result. In Mord it is 16,5%.
Everything turned out awesome, Ash. Great job.
Seems like a really fun game. Nice and chaotic with neutral monsters around.
Table Top Gamer Bingo- Mines of Moria Columns. :)
Really nice terrain! Just getting into this game, looks great. 2nd edition out soon-ish as well!
Was thinking about trying this out so thought I would watch it done proper, can’t believe how young you look ash. Thanks for all the top notch content
I need this game in my life!
A warband game in a skyrim-esque world with amazing progression, it really makes me want to paint some models and buy a ticket to Canada!
We'll be here! :)
Awesome work, Ash. That table and all those figures look awesome.
+Sean Sutter Thanks Sean! We're having a blast with it. Lots more to come ! :)
Hey its a Stan!!
Looking good cant wait to see more
Great battlereport. The models looks awesome and the terrain is incredibly cool.
That table looks amazing!!! A months hard work well done Ash! Love that one of the warbands is all LotR minis. LOL Really curious about this game as a Mordheim replacement. The Blu-Tac for the steps is a great idea!!! Thanks for putting up this battle report.

Some of the rules, the use of action points and initiative is very reminiscent of Betrayal at Calth. Think I'm going to enjoy this series!
Totally just finished watching your TNT videos, and love that you said you would check this game out and did. Keep it coming. :)
Not even pressed play yet, but just wanted to let you know how much I've been looking forward to watching this... Better be worth the hype eh? ;)
+willy tee Totally was. Love the potential chaos of it all and the awesome environment! :D
This game is nothing but pure drek
What, this game is brilliant. Best tabletop game I played.
That table is awesome
bruh you sold this shit to me in the first ten minutes
Loved this! Thanks for another quality vid..
Great report, looks real inspiring, definately gonna start looking for a way to get my hands on this.
Very awesome rep! I love it
Stan's warband is really cool looking , very gothic !
Love the content. If possible, some brighter lights would help bring out the colour of the miniatures and board. In some shots, the figures were dark and indistinct. Really love what you're doing overall- big thumbs up!
It's not the light, it's the contrast between the very light table and the minis. I need to play with the contrast. :)
Hmmmm, it appears Ash might be in need of some new tokens to help with the remembering of things :)
+Dragonspeaker ALWAYS
Well done - nice introduction. Thanks :--)
This video had me subscribed to your channel, really liking all the content. I love your setup and minis, have to ask where you got those awesome wound counters!
They're from Litko!
I've got the rules, Dark Alchemy, & Sellsword and have yet to play. Need to choose my warband and get some terrain.

soon dope this game is a good watch
Hah, I liked your centerpiece wizard statue so I went to eBay to look for a cheap statue of a wizard to make one of my own... sure enough, the first result is the one you used ;) Great minds...
Skeleton can see you by looking under the bridge.
Amazing terrain and models! You've outdone yourself. I don't really like the fight mechanics and 20 sided dice, but interesting rules.
HEY ASH!!
Love your vids!
I also love that big tower with the playable top floor in the foreground. The one that you have your crossbow man in.
Can you tell me who makes that?
It’s an old Games Workshop kit called the Witchfate Tor
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Thank you for the fast response. It looks super cool an also great for play value.
I feel you Stan .... so far all my frostgrave games have been a debacle. Can't get any rolls to go my way and opponent just rolling me into oblivion. Every ... single ... time ...

Cool shirt, love nerdcore's stuff
where did you get that cool statue in the centre of the table?
Nice game, nicer table!
No, it's Pina Coladaburg!
What minis did you guys use for your warbands?
where did ya find the spell cards didnt see them on the site
Cool i loved it. Here's a thing though (someone gotta root for the skellies here) if you up the table size to 4x4 shouldnt you adjust their threat range also? Love the table of course but it might also have few more repercussions.

Perfect! great table u got there, well worth the rules adjustments. Love The multi leveled tower, so fucking cool for that Serie (and skirmishes)
oooh where did you get that big wizard model for the statue ?
+Doomsdarkseid1 Ben from Homebrewed Worlds said it was from 'Some head-shop'. ;)
Do ruined stairs/steps etc affect movement the say climbing does or am I overthinking it?
Could You Tell me from what firm are thief and treasure Hunter?
Great video guys. Have you had a chance to test the campaign system much? I've read there are issues with damage oriented wizards (elementalists) with run away XP issues since killing is the best way to get XP. Does thaw of the lich lord resolve this ? Thanks.
I wouldn't worry about it. We've played multiple campaigns and never had issues.

Mine are extra cheap! They're mostly repurposed Aquarium decor! Check your local pet store! ;) The mat is from Frontline Gaming.
Ah the local pet store...of course ;) I better keep the kids at home or I might end up getting more than I bargained for :)
How did you do the wizard statue is that an action figure?
looks like someone needs to get some frostgrave tokens!
Hey I know I'm late but may I ask how you crafted the board? :)
you need to get modelmates show in a can for that terrain.
Are there specific rules for base size for this game? I see a lot of people use different sizes.
Where's the playmat from?
Subscribed ^^
Quick question : what kind of playmat is that? Did you build/paint/buy it? How or where?
It's a TABLEWAR - Frontline Gaming Alpine FAT Mat. :)
Thanks! :)
where did you get that handy ruler?
so.. it's like Mordheim in Skyrim, with Netheril? Noice.
Love the look and concept of the game, but the modifiers seem very small (only +/- , 1-4 on a D20) to the dice rolls, does that make this game feel really luck based or swingy when you're rolling off against each other each time?

+Guerrilla Miniature Games (Ash Barker) OK that sounds a lot better. Guess it's time I buy a rule book! Thanks for the reply!
What scale/size are the minis you are using?
The official frostgrave minis are 28mm. I believe the Lord of the Rings ones are 25mm.
Official are True 28 mm and not heroic scale 28.
Who makes the mat you are playing on?
Ash, could you help me out and let me know what model camera you are using? I am in the market for a new one and I really love how crisp your vids are.
Also, damn this video! I am so gona spend my whole paycheck on frostgrave materials lol. Looks liek a great game to get the friends into as an alternative to pathfinder.
+Marcello Genovese This little guy. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/749467-REG/Canon_4922B002_XA10_HD_Professional_Camcorder.html/prm/alsVwDtl
Thanks mate appreciate it! Also, great job obn all the painting! Your a machine hehe
what model was the second guy (Stan?) using for the man-at-arms w/Shield? looked pretty dynamically posed
The theme to this show sounds like an angrier version of the Seinfeld theme...
Where did the custom cards come from? Love the BatRep by the way! :)
What size table? 4x4?
Who makes the nice wound counters you are using?
Litko! :D
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! :D
Just wondering, why did you guys not use the table of failing a spell and the wizard takes damage?
+orkybob Because this was game 1 and we completely spaced on it. ;)
Oh ok gotcha, was just curious. Fun batrep tho.
Damn this is really fucking cool
Interesting game...
I'm thinking you're forgetting that failing to cast a spell may cause damage to the caster...not sure how much as I don't have my book available.
+Runes Hellstrike We sure do! It gets ironed out as we go.
Loving the terrain - great job! Where did you get them from, if you don't mind me asking? =)
Which bit?
+Guerrilla Miniature Games (Ash Barker) I particularly liked the tower, as well as the thing with the pool of green stuff, oh, and the broken aqueduct (or bridge)!
+Johnny Wraith Tower is OOP GW. Pool is OOP Gale Force 9 Battlefield in a Box stuff. The Broken Aquaduct/Bridge is pet store Acquarium stuff available in any chain Pet shop!
If anyone is interested in the game and doesn't have a copy of the rulebook, Chapters has it online for $21.71 CAD.
Club Dread right?
Nailed it
finally!
is that reference from Nacho libre? lol
28:45
This game looks awesome! Oh btw it's pronounced "thoom" hah
Lots of chatter, but little explanation. At any point do you go back and say what you did wrong? Such as casting a spell while in melee (namely teleport) or activating in the soldier phase by alternating soldiers or taking damage for missing spell rolls?
I like your videos... but it so bugs me that you say Felgast and not Felstad.
Hmm, interesting game with some very nice ideas, but the combat system downright sucks. Considering all the hype surrounding this game I was expecting something much better. Oh well.
