    I appreciate that the look is sleeker than the form goggles. Of course, with new tech, function comes first then they can work on slimming it down. I don't see myself being an early adopter in this market yet but I like the concept still!

    Love the two piece idea- That's class. The shape looks so much better than the Form goggles that's for sure. I love the Form swim tech but the shape of them and lack of peripheral vision really ruins it annoyingly.

      Yeah, that’s the thing about goggles. The fit, visibility and leaks have to be spot on or people aren’t going to use it. This one is better but not perfect. I’m not throwing away my other goggles just yet.

      The Form Swim goggles pair with some garmin watches and the apple watch to display distance data in open water swimming. This Finis goggle only connects to the smart phone to transfer data after the workout.

      Hey, Joseph - for sure! With our FORM Smart Swim Goggles, we connect to Polar's Verity Sense and OH1/OH1 + heart rate sensors so you can monitor your live heart rate in the goggles while pool and open water swimming. After your workout, you can review your heart rate alongside other metrics tracked by the goggles, such as time, distance, pace, stroke rate, stroke count, and more in the FORM Swim App.
      In open water, the goggles also connect to compatible Garmin and Apple Watches meaning you can monitor your heart rate and GPS distance while swimming.

    8 x 125 freestyle drill (25 kick with head in neutral position, arms by side, focus on kick and good hip/shoulder rotation; 25 add the right arm stroke, keeping left arm by side, breathe to left side when right arm is extended and initiating catch; 25 left arm stroke keeping right arm by side, breathe to right side when left arm is extended and initiating catch; 50 full stroke, increasing tempo slightly as you progress through the final 25. 20 seconds rest. This set helps develop timing, build and engage core strength, isolate and correct stroke weakness, improve kick and promote proper body position in the water. It should not be done fast.

    The charging cable on mine broke. It's proprietary. Nothing else uses it. Finis wants $29 in shipping alone on the cable. The goggles work well and I have no problems with the blindspot they create, but why didn't they use a normal charging cable with a waterproof gasket? My mp3 player does and it cost $20.

    Open water workout, but possibly done in a pool too if there is a good spot for the run:
    5 min W/U
    5 X 100 exiting the water and running 50 yds between each 100 without rest, race pace
    2 min rest
    Repeat 5 X 100 with exit runs
    5 min C/D
    I would love to have these goggles because I will count of my labs so quickly.

    I've used the FORM goggles for nearly a year and I think they are a fantastic product. I was hoping that the FINIS goggles would be even better, because they are much smaller and don't come off in dives and turns. Now I just got them and tried them out this morning and must say that I am disappointed. They are smaller and more comfortable to wear, for sure. But the text is hard to read, and the information displayed is far inferior than what the FORM goggles give you. For example, they only give you 1 length splits, whereas the FORM are customizable and give you split and total time of each swim. The software looks nice, but is not as easy to use. For example, if I do a 400, I don't know why I would want to see each 25, but not get the total time? There is a lot of room for improvement on the software side, so I remain hopeful.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 роки тому +1

      I agree 100%. At this point, I feel like the HUD visuals, metrics and tech are better on the Form but the larger surface area of the goggles makes the fit tricky for those goggles. The Finis goggles seem to fit more like a traditional pair of goggles which I appreciate when turning or diving. Hopefully they can update some of the software on the device to show different metrics. So glad to hear your experience. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 роки тому

      Well most of those would fall towards the Form Swim goggles. But the Finis tends to have a better fit and less leaks which is pretty important. I'd love to make a comparison video but we'll see if people are interested in the topic.

    Matt- First time watcher and I love your style. I have watched both your Form review and the Finis review. My impression is that the HUD in the Form is better than the Finis but your sacrifice size to get it. You didn't mention weather there were fogging problems with either. I incorporate kick laps in my workouts and my smart watch has trouble with these if there is no arm movement so consequently, my mileage is always under reported. I would love to see a comparison. It would be cool if they could incorporate a GPS sensor for open water swims to keep you on track and on pace. Keep up the good work. I am just getting back into swimming and triathlons after a few decade layoff due to work, so I am in catch up mode.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 роки тому

      Yes! I’m planning a comparison video soon. 👌 I haven’t had fogging issues with either because I don’t wear either enough to wear out the initial anti fog coating. I’ll touch on that in the comparison video. The Form goggle does connect to some GPS watches for open water distance. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    • @FORMswim
      @FORMswim 3 роки тому +1

      Just diving in here, with our FORM goggles we use the same permanent, chemical-resistant anti-fog used in diving masks. After each swim, we recommend to only rinse the goggles in clean water and to let them air dry. We've found that the anti-fog will last longer too if you avoid touching the insides of the lenses so as not to affect the anti-fog coating.
      With regards to drills, we built a drills mode into our experience that records your kick drills as a stroke. In drills mode, time is tracked and you can adjust the estimated distance at the end of your drills.
      As for open water, you can connect our goggles to compatible Garmin and Apple Watches for GPS metrics and heart rate. More info - formswim.com/compatibility

    I've been fitness swimming for about 3 years and am on my second Garmin device. (currently Vivoactive HR) and have always been intrigued by the google concept versus watch. What I do think might be lacking is stroke recognition? My Garmin does a great job of deducing stroke type. Probably a lot harder for a head-mounted sensory than one on the arm. But, with that said, maybe an IM set?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 роки тому

      Well, I have no doubt that Finis will continue to develop the recognition algorithm and stroke detection will improve. But I’d love to see a drill mode (which Garmin tends to have) for kick sets or any sets that won’t be recognized easily.

    • @bradburgdorff4471
      @bradburgdorff4471 3 роки тому

      Clearly, this is where that second button could really help. Pressing it could cycle through upcoming stroke or drill. Even if you designated IM before a set, it might at lease help the device improve its stroke recognition.

    A question I have about all these smart goggles is, how do they hold up after the fog coating begins to wear off? Usually after a month or so my goggles start fogging up, and I'll start spitting in them to clean the lens before each session. Only after a few months do I have to add another layer of baby shampoo. But how does the display screen hold up to fogging over time?

      Wow, good question. I’ll save a full answer to that for another video but my short answer would probably be the Form Swim goggles because I love open water swimming. I may have to rewatch the Form video. That HUD blocking my view, even though you say it's not too bad, bugs me slightly. I thought the HUD for the Form is more of a projection onto the lens, which sits better with me.
    Now, are these in socket or on style goggles? I have issues with in socket goggles like the Speedo Vanquishers, but I love the on socket goggles like the Tyr SpecOps.
    I don't have a clue what kind of workout to suggest; I suck at that sort of thing. LMAO
    Another great video, Matt. Keep on keepin' on!

    Hey matt love your review
    I just bought this goggles and its fantastic

    Can i sync these goggles with polar's heart rate straps?
    So i can monitor my heart rate while swimming?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Рік тому

      It might be possible to connect the straps to the goggles via a Bluetooth connection but the distance from your chest to the goggles is too far for the radio wave to go through water. (Something like 700X the thickness of air 🤔) Polar makes a product called the Variety Sense that you can put on your temple for heart rate and can communicate with the Form Goggles and where you’d be able to see your Heart Rate in real time as you swim. I posted a video about it here on my channel.
