In April 2005 I was 8 years old. My sister, 16 years older than me, had a CD-RW of electronic music from a famous British radio.
The "Essential mix of the year 2004" gave me a new perspective on music. It was different from what I heard in Brazil, it was something completely new and magical.
Nostalgia is good, I always listen to this set when I need to recover my energy and strength. This mix brings me peace and tranquility. It's like my mental reset button...

Trance is the reason I started listening to Electronic music . I was 16 now 34 almost 20 years ago. The emotion the Euphoric the uplifting feelings you get you can only feel it with trance. Back then it was the golden era. I we live it. This new generation only knows about the drop. Too bad we are only influence by money and have to adjust to the new trends. But Above & Beyond still captures and brings out the Emotion nowdays. But Progressive and Deep house are very good to me they are a slow version of trance

completely agree, grew up with trance and indie and in that period of the mid 2000s both were lively scenes, now though i only listen to Deep house . i feel it’s the closest thing to the feeling of trance from back then

Agreed... When I first found out they were doing another essential mix, I thought "They'll never top 2004...". After listening to it a few times it grew on me. Although its still not better than 2004, the 2011 one shows how trance moved on, but it still has the old trance feeling embedded... It was like going from Anjunabeats volume 1, to Anjunabeats volume 2... Talking of which, thats next up :)
I had this 'copied' from the original stream, and still listen to it! Perfect study/paint/work soundtrack. Just found this on UA-cam, glad that people still enjoy it likewise! Golden era trance, this set in particular is timeless and honestly with every listen it feels more poignant than ever.

This mix is the soundtrack to my adolescence and I’m so glad it was. They don’t make music like this anymore. While I love where electronic music and “trance” has gone, I love to listen to this stuff, especially this mix, and go on a mental and emotional journey. God I love this mix

This changed my life in 2004 when I needed it the most. I don’t even like trance at all however, this is different. It is a soul searching, heart breaking, rethinking your purpose on this earth, heart healing, and is a straight up life altering fucking masterpiece. I wish music still had feeling and soul and meaning like it did back then. I wish I could make young kids who think they are into “edc” music sit down and listen to this and I would bet you almost anything it would have a similar effect on them. Unless they are just empty and soulless and in that case carry on listening to your shitty music .. your loss my friends.
I come back to this set every once in a while because it has a special place in my heart. It's just blows my mind every time how music can help us remember certain periods of our lives so that we can kinda relive them. I used to listen to this at that time when I was met my first girlfriend. That very first kiss in the snowfall in that cold night, the butterflies in our bellies and all that jazz. Things didn't work out, it was a long time ago and I was just a kid but that sensation I felt and which I can recall with this masterpiece was truly Above & Beyond.
THE mix of all mixes, the one that introduced me to these legends and the ABGT family. Long live A&B.

I listened to this when it was launched on essential mix and I was a student at a university of London having the time of my life.. Then went back home with my international friends for our summer vacations to Greece celebrating Euro Championship and having even more wicked time... This mix was the soundtrack of the best time of my life...

Wow wow awesome Above & Beyond always make it happen and amazes us with SUCH GREAT SOOTHING MUSIC FOR THERE FANS. EDC 20th Anniversary 2016, it was absolutely amazing. My my girl and I got engaged at A&B New Years San Diego 2015, and now we celebrated our anniversary at this wonderful playground with friends and fam "Under The Electric Sky". I think I discovered Above & Beyond at the same time with ASOT & Armin. Even though my first "WOW" with trance was when I was 16 years old at year 2000 and heard Tiestoo's "In Search Of Sunrise 1" compilation from 1999 for the first time (which I still consider my all time favorite compilation though). Tiesto, Ferry, Armin, Above & Beyond still my all time favorite trance DJ-s these days. Above and Beyond are my favorite trance producers of all time though.
I like to think to myself that if many of these classic Above & Beyond trax were released today they would dominate the pop charts. The quality of the melodies and the masterful music production in may cases exceeds what is available today. These trax are timeless and really should be re-released for today`s more accepting market. The market at the time these trax were released was dominated by alt-rock and hip hop - in America anyway.
Today`s generation will LOVE this stuff! And they do - just ask my 21 year old son.
