    Wait, you just fixed the high-pitch ground loop whine problem with a patch cable without connecting the ground? How is it possible lol? Can you give a detailed explanation please?

    • @leothemetal
      @leothemetal  7 місяців тому +1

      Well, it helps sometimes. Not always. Do you know DI boxes? they have Ground Lift switch. It workes the same way. In most of the cases ground and negative cable are the same bus. To get rid of ground loops you connect only one device as usual with both positive and negative wires. The rest of the devises are attached to positive bus only. The negative bus will be supplied throught ground of the patch cable. This way you don`t have ground loops. But as I mentioned before-this works sometimes. In my case this worked with some of devices, but with some others it didn`t work. However, Harley Benton came up with their ISO Pro series, that are less than 100 euro, they are awesome and afordable. So, I purchased a couple of those, made review about them and use them ever since. And I don`t have to worry about any ground loops or look for some solutions for the problem. Back in the days when I made this video they weren`t released.

      @@leothemetal thanks. For the detailed explanation bro. I have got 2 bad boys on my pedal board, mooer x2 preamp and m wave mini universe. They dont seem to get along with any other pedals i have be it digital based or analog, they produce the exact same whine as you demonstrate here. Using separate power supplies work indeed, but its bulky. Ill try this ground cut trick. But what do you suggest, do you think i should cut the grounds that i go in and out to(of) these pedals only, or vice versa?

    • @leothemetal
      @leothemetal  7 місяців тому +1

      @@captain6198 Well....Some digital devices produce some nasty noise. I suggest to grab some Harley benton ISO power supplies. They are dirt cheap and they will solve any problem.

    Thanks again, owh do you now have a recommendation of a good somewhat noiseless Power Supply thats not astronomically EXPENSIVE? i mean i cant justify dropping 100 euros on a power supply lol

      Thanks.
      I haven't tried something else.
      Well, first of all, I have a couple of 12-volt pedals, so I was looking for a supply that has this option. Ever since HB isn't the best option I use multiple supplies like on 1.27 .
      I live in Germany, that's why I'll buy the next thing at Thomann as well. I looked through their offers, under 100 euro you'll get as good as nothing with isolated outputs.
      Carl Martin Pro Power V2 looks good, at least they claim, that it has isolated outputs, maybe I'll try it someday.
      www.thomann.de/de/carl_martin_pro_power_v2.htm
      140 euro
      another option is this one
      www.thomann.de/de/rockboard_lt_xl_power_bank.htm
      It's just a rechargeable battery, so you'll probably still have daisy chains, but at least you don't have an interference from the main power, this might work as well. But I haven't tried both of those things. At least you have 30 days money back option at Thomann.

      @@trofim_5280 Ну я про что и говорю в видео-это обычный кабель класса daisy chain, то есть-параллельное подключение педалей, просто в большом корпусе. Что делать? ну например-подключить одну педаль таким кабелем, а к остальным подвести только плюс и отрубить минус. Таким образом мы избегаем так называемых земляных петель. Может помочь. А может не помочь. А еще лучше-купить то, что не шумит, например такое

    great video!
    whar are the downsides to disconnecting the ground wire in my patch cables tho? (besides cutting open my nice patch cables)
    i guess you can only use those patch cables with a daisychain and power bank, right?
    not with seperate adapters/batteries.
    and did i get it right that only the positive lug on the patch plug is connected to the wire? and it's only the patch cables? not one side of your git/amp jack?
    any remarks/advice? thanks!!

    • @leothemetal

      That was the whole point.
      Harley benton has this daisy chains inside, so I don't see a point of using it.

      To add to this, I believe someone has put a review of the Flex on Thoman, says it is no more than a daisy chain in a long, thin box......
      But.... I see they are coming out with something called the Power Plant Pro ISO-1 and 2, which seem to address these points - not enough power for modern digital delays and boutique pedals, and the isolation of the ground....
      That been said this version in review was the first version, but when they did the 'junior' version they state that it is 'galvanically isolated', so I found this info on that...
      warmcat.com/2016/10/07/advantages-limitations-and-costs-of-galvanic-isolation.html
      So I figured it is essentially how they isolate sockets around a building, and if that is done and an appliance is somehow connected to something else that is inadvertently grounded else where, it wouldn't be the fault of the supply that produces the ground loop..... Hastag headache ! XD

    • @jayjayripoff
      @jayjayripoff 6 років тому

      Basically the grounding issue shouldn't be a problem in the junior version, but the ISO 1/2 versions are looking pretty cool! :-) Due in March!

    • @leothemetal
      @leothemetal  6 років тому +1

      I've got the Power Plant flex, made basic shots, right now I'm working on the final cut. But just as a sort of preview, yes, new power plant flex is the same daisy chain as an original power plant, only with the digital voltage meter.
      And guess what, I've already preordered the ISO version as well, it's not available yet, but I want to take review it as well.

    • @leothemetal
      @leothemetal  7 років тому

      Dude, those are only 9 volts, those can't kill you. and by the way, if you pay close attention to what I was trying to say, YOU DISCONNECT GROUND WIRE OF THE SIGNAL CABLE, NOT THE HIGH VOLTAGE POWER CABLE. Do you actually know, what the difference is? Or did you actually get the message what I was trying to achieve and how? There is no high voltage in this circuit that will kill you. You disconnect a ground wire in only SOME PLACES, NOT THE WHOLE CIRCUIT to eliminate the ground loops and to get rid of the noise. Or are you really unaware of how this actually works?

    • @johnstudiob2481
      @johnstudiob2481 7 років тому

      i do know which ground wire you mean, but if i was well up on electronics i wouldn't be asking if it was dangerous, i was only considering the people who've died touching guitar strings and microphones which is probably a whole different thing

    • @GHL30NLuzifer
      @GHL30NLuzifer 6 років тому

      Well... that's just not true. I mean there have been electrical accidents and all but your pedal is still grounded. that's why the ground loop existed in the first place. You see your pedal is grounded twice: once through your patch cable and once through your power supply. by cutting your ground wire on one side of your patch cable the case of your pedal and the cable itself will be grounded up to the place where you cut it. Right after that comes the next pedal which will be grounded again by your power supply. so you dont have any parts in your chain which aren't grounded. If you were to unplug the power supply of your pedal it might be possible to get "hurt", but then again it's only 9 volts. you can actually try how that'd feel by touching both contacts of a 9v battery with your tongue (if you trust me). It'll tickle a bit but that's it. And your tongue is wet unlike your hands/feet...
      Anyway dont mess with electronics unless you know what you're doing!

    Sorry but you are wrong. I have been using 2 One Spot power supplies to power 12 pedals and it functions perfectly. It's your country that has a screwed up electrical system.

    • @leothemetal
      @leothemetal  6 років тому +4

      Well...Germany has a screwed up electrical system. Congratulations.
      The thing is-it's not about a country. Some venues have screwed up electrical system and when I'm playing gigs it's not my business to handle the screwed up electrical system. I need a power supply that works in any conditions. HB powerplant isn't this kind of device.
