Just helping an old friend Install plugs and wires on a Classic 1989 Chevy Caprice. Not as easy as I expected but got her done just the same.

Years ago me and my brother had bought a Chevy Caprice station wagon for my mother to replace her 78 Caprice wagon that was rusted out but ran great yet but i remember taking all the smog crap off of her newer wagon because it was the same thing you were dealing with on changing the spark plugs a pain in the ass. Got rid of those oxygen pump lines and the pump & plugged the exhaust manifold holes where those lines screwed in then got rid of the carburetor and put a Edelbrock 600 cfm on it with the adapter plate to the quadrajet intake cut the catalytic converter off & welded a straight pipe in between the exhaust pipes and shit canned the clutch fan because it was on its way out & the car ran so much better & made enough power that it could actually burn the back tire from a dead stop . Fuel mileage was about the same even with the Edelbrock jetted for performance rather than mileage. I even swapped out the thermostat to a 180 instead of the 195 it was supposed to have so the engine ran a little cooler and everything combined made a world of difference on how that car performed. If your friend doesnt have to deal with emmisions testing I would for sure tell him to get rid of that crap they used so its easier to work on & the performance of the engine comes back because the car will be funner to drive & easier to work on which is a win win in my opinion. His engine looked like the vortech by seeing the valve covers while you were working on it and they can make decent power if you get rid of the emissions crap and either swap out the computer controlled quadrajunk or if its tbi swap that out & buy the aluminum intake that fits the vortec heads and run a good carburetor on it and run a regular hei distributor that has the lighter advance springs so the advace ignition timing comes in quicker and it will perform much better than the stock smog crap does on them. Jegs and Summit used to sell modified tbi units that had bigger injectors in them and supposedly flowed more cfm but they were expensive and trying to find someone to recalibrate the computers ignition and fuel curves for performance was just about impossible so most were throwing that tbi stuff away and going back to carburetor and using the old hei ignitions to by pass that factory tbi stuff because you just couldn't get much performance from them other than stock . Most guys now that have that same car would pull the sbc and do the 5.3 LS swap because its relatively cheap to do & the power they can make with the parts available arent terrible priced . Me & a buddy are building a 67 cougar that we turned into a fast back but instead of going Ford we decided to 5.3 LS it and the engines in with exhaust and we fired it up just a week ago for the first time but its mostly in its mach up stage as far as body assembly making sure the doors hood bumpers all align well before final assembly but are all painted and cleared gloss black . We finished the 69 road runner last year that has the 451 stroker in it & my buddy has already won a few trophies with it . He just raced another friends new Camaro that i thought has the 6.0 or 6.1 in it & i guess he spanked the Camaro ass pretty hard from what im hearing so those 451 when built right can make some serious HP because they rev quick like a small block but make the HP and torque like a big block does . Keep the videos coming because i like watching them and i havent seen much from you guys lately i suppose because of this strange winter weather we are dealing with so keep em coming & take care and be somewhat safe 😂.
