- Absolutely delighted to welcome the absolute legend himself, BenaBadBeat, back to the channel! This guy is my favourite person to make videos with for many reasons, and today we are looking at one particular session I recently played in my live adventure! Looking forward to hearing all your thoughts on these hands as always.
I did originally plan for this to be a one part video but we ran over on a few hands and I don't like to upload videos that are over an hour, so I hope you don't mind it this way round!

Would love more of these live reviews. I'm a decently winning online player, but im not great at maximizing live earnings. Im always suspicious of advice from live grinders just because they usually lack A good theory background. So it's great to see BenaBadBeat review these.

I'm honestly not convinced about this logic of checking range oop as the preflop raiser. I feel it's only based on solver output in spots like single raise pots UTG vs BU where the solver checks range. But the reason the solver checks range has nothing to do with being oop as the preflop raiser, it's only because the BU flatting range should be significantly tighter than your open range, so you check because you're at a range disadvantage. However the assumption that your opponent's flatting range is tighter than your open range is completely wrong in reality, GTO flatting range is like 8% of hands, while your average fish's flatting range is over 40% of hands. So if you want to run this actual spot in solver you have to put omega whale on his actual preflop range. And when you do, I'm pretty sure the solver cbets a lot of hands if not all of them as you have an overwhelming range advantage.
This is a valid point. A couple things I would add tho are that:
1) range checking oop is often a small mistake at worst. Most times I've node locked an oop pfr to range check, even against a wide calling range, the EV difference is small or negligible.
2) the average player constructs their betting ranges much more poorly than their calling range. A lot of players bet overly merged when checked to, which can be countered by over folding and over raising. This also leaves there check back range weak. But if you bet theses same players won't make as big of a mistake.
fwiw checking range oop as a blanket statement is very incorrect - i'm not sure if i said we should be range checking oop as pfr. if i did, then that's my bad. There are plenty of boards where oop should have a cbetting range vs an ip cc (albeit low frequency/sizing almost exclusively). I do tend to agree with some of what you have said about Omega's cc, however you need to consider other important factors such as Omega over/under stabbing which allows us to; over realise our no equity hands, check raise marginal/vulnerable hands that don't want to play vs such a player type at big SPR's, and most importantly, allowing Omega to define their range, and therefore allowing us to adjust our strategy accordingly. I think what i'm saying is that by checking to an erratic player more often than not (again, not every time, but a lot) will generally yield a higher EV (not in theory, but it raw $$$) than cbetting.

Great content nick and bena. Bena plays a different game to most of us. Surprised at the amount of checking the flop even as the pre flop aggressor with a decent pocket pair on a not too scary board. I get the checking for value to check-raise though. Will have to mull that one over. Playing live is so difficult compared to online, you encounter players you never normally come across and they can start getting you doing things you'd never consider online. Bit of a head fcuk.

As someone whos guilty of misadjusting vs players like omegawhale, it was gd to hear ben define ur overcalling as the whale owning u. Some v v gd advice, u r v v v lucky to have someone like him.

Checking JJ on the T62 board would be a disaster, passive whales are going to check back all their gut shot draws, their two overs and won’t be betting IP enough. I would be cbetting pot against this player
but we've already seen this player overstab (5 way with nothing twice). cbetting pot is definitely a fine option as well. i don't think it has to be one or the other. both will generate mega $$ vs said player
how much would you say is a big enough bankroll to play 1/2 500 max live?

I would say if you're CONFIDENT you're crushing that game, you can get away with 15 buy ins, I'd recommend 20-25 though

Hey, Bena, on 9:10 I kinda disagree with checking JJ. You probably want to lean towards checking higher pocket pairs since chch (which will happen a lot vs passive player) is a very bad result for our hand because we need quite some protection. I’d be looking to ch KK AA, some QQ with a club and just bet big JJ
totally agree with this ordinarily but we've seen this player to be quite erratic and bet happy. i just like to fully take advantage of that fact. agree that the higher pp's will be even more incentivised to check

If you were honestly considering to make Q9c to a bluff in order to isolate the whale while holding 3rd pair on a flushy and straighty board.. with a solid reg that you know has a hand behind you.. man.. you might be the whale :P
29:44 why are you checking here ? isnt this an easy bluff ? the fact your both so confident about a check is really worrying because i would bluff that 100% of the time.
I don't think you can open T9s 5x 7 handed. As BTN and CO call more, the tighter you need to play. If IP cold calls >15 you get fucking owned by the rake, and both players lose in relation to their initial investment.
Personally always opening this but I'm open to being wrong!

How to SIM this spot is to vary opening, and cold calling ranges in PIO. 25 flop subset should be enough to get an idea if the question is "what is the the minumum positive ev strategy." To get into the ev maximizing answers without monker solver, more flop subsets will be needed, but I don't think it's too relevant for such a crude simplification. 6 max high rake gives 100% frequency to T9s UTG vs optimal 200nl + BTN cold calling, but it's on the cusp. I find it highly unlikely that 7 handed vs an overdefending BTN and BB it is profitable after rake.
200+ because below that there should be exactly 0 cold calling.
EV decreases as BTN defends because the share of the pot raked increases in relation to hero's steal EV.
Prove me wrong if you can, my computer would run for 98,000 hours if I solved for it.
Ben is obviously a great great player but i think he might be too used to online 6max ranges. QQ and JJ may be checks if it is an online reg game but they should be very fine to bet vs loose ranges even if it is mw

I'm not sure that oop live is really any different to online? you can use similar logic for checking as you have given for betting; if they're loose then would they not have a lot more air which we gain value from when we check? I could be misunderstanding something here though so lemme know!
@@BenjaminRaven hi ben I’m a big fan, much respect. my logic is based on the premise that our betting frequency generally goes up vs loose ranges. Eg when we opens from CO and opponent cold calls from BTN, our cbet% is low as opponent has a more condensed/tight range. When we 3bet from SB vs btn open and defend, our cbet% is higher than the previous scenario because the relative strength of our range vs opponent’s range is stronger in this case. Now if we go back to the CO vs BTN cc scenario and assign BTN a very wide non-GTO range then run the sim, our cbet% should become higher. Obviously if we assume opponent is stabbing way too much (compared with solver), our EV of check raising goes up but this would be an exploit play. Hope this makes sense and interested in learning from you if you disagree with the above.
