She’d just arrived in the U.S., but that night she would make her American TV debut on the David Letterman show. I was so lucky to see her in person literally hours before her career would take off here. Sitting just a few feet away and hearing that voice, I was blown away.
She needs a band and someone to critique her lyrics and to find better melodies. A soaring voice is not enough, imo. Her voice is so expressive and powerful but I hate it . her songs mean nothing to me. She never approaches Neil Young, Dylan, Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, Ray Davies, Jeff Tweedy, Van Morrison, Sam Cooke, Paul Westerberg and she has a better voice then some of them by a mile but she's doesn't have cool, soul, substance or depth. She's just better than most of the lousy singer songwriters of today; I will give here that. Clap.
