I like destabilizing rounds. Subsistence is redundant if you are running the autoloader artifact mod so will be better with a new artifact. Onslaught is good if you are trying to do higher dps though. I primarily use it as my main weapon when I have it equipped so destabilizing is nice for ad clear.
Were I still playing, it'd be Destabilizing Rounds. But as it stands.....I literally only log in to check eververse, see whats obtainable with bright dust, get stuff if I want it and then dip. I've been with Destiny since vanilla, I've finished the Final Shape, I've beaten the Witness and I have nothing left to prove. My friends long left the game and my last buddy and I finished the series as a "last hurrah", but nothing else. And with everything going down on Bungie.....I'm sorry, but I can't; I'm out and spending my time in FFXIV.
We're really splitting hairs here, but once this season is done I think Subsistence + Alloy is the play. With Subsistence, you don't really need to reload much when you're mostly in the ADS mode. So focusing your reload around the hip fire is what makes sense to me. That being said, I personally love the feel of Onslaught so much that I'm going to be sticking with that. I'm 100% with you on Handling being the stat, so it's going to be Fluted+Flared+Onslaught+SAS for me.
I like Destabalizing as well. Been playing with Onslaught the last couple of days, but I don't like it for ADS shooting. If you use it for high damage, then you need an ad clear in the kinetic slot. If you want to use this as add clear and sometimes burst, then detabalizing.
Onslaught is amazing for shredding high health targets, but as a Warlock main I gotta say, Destabilizing Rounds procs Devour from volatile explosion kills, AND saves me ammo. It’s hella fun, and if we ever see a Destabilizing Rounds buff, it’s just going to get better. Sidenote: your deep and meaningful analysis is one of my favorite parts of your channel for both pve and pvp considerations here. Stuff like the reload option breakdowns here is exceptional content - THANK YOU!
Onslaught forever. Despite having a decent handful of Destab/Repulsor weapons, I still don't like Destabilising Rounds. The hidden timer is probably my main gripe with it because I want my on kill perks to happen on kill and not on kill*. If they add a debuff to your screen, maybe I'd like it. (also, they should have stuck to having debuffs hang out on the right side of the screen. there's still issues with not knowing what's affecting you all the time and while part of that is you can have waaaay more than four buffs going there's still the thing where the debuffs have to wrestle for that position too and that sucks)
You are amazing a describing how well each of those perks work. I'm gonna go try Onslaught now to see how much I like it. I originally just wrote it of because I didn't want to consume so much ammo. But you made it look a bit more appealing especially when you reminded me that Onslaught also increases reload speed. I think with my play style I'll still love Destabilizing rounds more. But I'm exited to try Onslaught later today.
Been using it a ton but people will really realize how important reload is when the artifact mod is gone. So far my favorite has been fluted barrels, flared, destabilizing rounds. I only use hip fire for some champions and if I’m in a pinch
Barrels and mags are always the hardest part with crafted exotics sometimes, especially something as unique as this. I appreciate the nice breakdown and comparisons, sounds like I will be defaulting Destabilizing rounds for general play and subclass synergy. That being said I will likely look into Onslaught at some point, especially after the ammo nerf to see just how tight a pick it is
I honestly thought destabilising rounds would be the way to go with my hunter Gyrfalcons build, but as soon as I tried onslaught I was like wooooh boy! 😅 We’re doing this now! 😂
now that destabilizing rounds can self-proc volatile explosions, instead of just applying volatile, it feels fantastic. especially on gyrfalcon's hauberk, sometimes it'll cause a volatile explosion from the chestpiece while also applying volatile to nearby enemies, which the original volatile explosion detonates, and it just has absolutely massive explosions while also dealing crazy, crazy single target damage. might be my new favorite weapon over graviton lance
Raking up 10,690 kills as of this post with Choir of One, and completing a number of end-game activities (including GM Nightfalls and numerous Master Flawless runs), it is my favourite weapon in the entire history of my ten years playing the Destiny franchise. Via this video, and noting that I am a serial reloader and only use hip-fire when necessary, I may change my mag from Alloy to instead Flared Magwell. However, my current build is: - Fluted Barrel - Alloy Magazine Destabilizing Rounds - Short Action Stock Despite the small usefulness of Subsistence (which will be more useful once the Auto Reloader artifact mod leaves this season), or the sheer output damage Onslaught can bring, and noting the incoming ammo reserves nerf, my extensive use of Choir of One informs me that Destabilizing Rounds is the best retrofit mod in my opinion. It's hyper ammo efficient, using void volatile explosions + radiolarian fluid pools to maximise AOE and kills with few shots, is immeasurably useful. With my Exotic Titan Mark Stoicism using Spirit of Stars, I further get restoration benefits to my Prismatic Void Titan, and Spirit of Severance accentuates my melee explosions via Consecration slams which are further buffed with Knockout (and Knockout's health benefits on final blows). (My hope is to get Spirit of Eternal Warrior with Spirit of Scars on my Stoicism, but I've yet to be blessed by RNG from either Pale Heart or Xur 😢) It's been a ride to enjoy PvE content with this build, and I'm glad that the three retrofit mods are all excellent depending on your personal playstyle!
YOOOO! " Hip-fire go brrrrr..." lol! You are absolutely correct in that everything depends on your PLAYSTYLE.....not the weapon itself. Versatility for the win! Great vid😎
Destabilizing 100%. Once we're out of this artifact season/episode and no longer have built in subsistence and also gets the reserve fix/nerf I just don't realistically see myself using Onslaught. It's something I'd much rather have on primary anyways, and maybe MGs. There's just too much going on with Destab on this gun and it's radiolaria that I can't see myself really going for anything else.
I can’t say I like one over another. It’s just customizable for whatever content you seek out to play. Depending on the closeness of the activity, I might use destabilizing in a tight master lost sector, and subsistence in Gambit. For example. Thx for getting nerdy.
And this is why I’m crafting multiple rolls, because as far as I consider, Onslaught just makes it a different weapon entirely, but has major demerits for the game play, but Destabilising Rounds just allows you to use it as a primary weapon in most content.
the reload speed thing is very interesting. Yesterday, I tried it with a friend, where he had alloy and I had flared. Started shooting the last bullet at the same time, timed by a grenade, and measured how long it took to fire another shot after a reload, in hipfire. I won, by a good margin... as we continued firing in another test, I extended my gap every time, basically getting to be a full rotation ahead of him eventually. Yet, here you directly show us that our testing was somehow wrong, and I don't get it. We didn't have Onslaught procced or anything, as that's normally hard to test against each other with, and we did it in the Enclave. My testing shows that Flared Magwell was substantially faster, I reckoned it was because the animation multiplier scales with the reload stat, being percentage-wise faster the faster your "base" reload is. CoolGuy, can you tell me why I'm wrong here, or what I'm doing wrong? Because we didn't use frame-measuring and could still see a remarkable difference between the reload speeds, but the other way around...
With choir I've run into a unique situation, what to pair with it in my kinetic slot. Choir covers so many bases that many kinetic primaries are just a weaker version of choir. I've ended up with using double special with some armor mods to get special ammo more frequently.
Depending on what I need for the activity, I just use an anti champion weapon in that slot. My favorite choice rn are chill clip critical anomaly or deliverance for overload/unstop, or under over/ KT multimach for barrier. I usually round it out with an lmg for content with tons of ads, or a linear for boss/ major bursting if choir is low on ammo (rn im using the suspectum with chill clip to synergize with stylish executioner/ GPG)
The autoloader on the artifact absolutely does NOT hurt subsistence, if anything it makes it better, nearly never needing to reload at all unless you hipfire dump into a bug target. The autoloader works alongside subsistence and activates parallel to it
They told us that reserves are going from 250/375 to 200/300. Sure it hurts, but I don't think it will really move the needle, unless you were dead set on using it as a primary weapon. Even then with all the ways to get special I'm not sure that will be unviable.
I was using subsistence but reshaped into onslaught later on. I have to say that I'm missing subsistence because combined with the artifact mod you literally never had to reload...

But it seems A LOT of people are sold big time on Onslaught for the massive DPS output. I know there's some changes coming & some funny interactions atm but damn. Gunna have to try out both now haha.
