- So on a spontaneous visit, Dan mentioned that he actually has an Xbox360 that has an unpatched version of Dark Souls 1. So naturally, we decided it'd be funny to give that a try.

That actually sounds like fun
It's fun to watch someone play Dark Souls in a non-sweaty way. Fighting every enemy, doing the Depths, going to Blighttown the intended way. When you're a seasoned player it's easy to forget where a lot of the game's notoriety came from. Cos it all seems so easy when you:
- Know every map and enemy location perfectly, and just run past every enemy which trivialises most of the game.
- Know every shortcut, so you dont take a wrong turn and go "damn it's been a long time since a bonfire"
- Know every illusory wall and hidden bonfire location. Being saved from crazy long runbacks.
- Know about i-frames and different weight thresholds, something the game doesnt teach.
- Know which areas you're meant to go to and which areas are genuinely too hard for a brand new character (New Londo, Catacombs), not just hard cos "Dark Souls hard game"
- Know how kindling works and what it does.
- Know about the objectively best starting gift, and alternate routes through the game.
- Know which areas are tricky and optional so you can skip them (Depths, Blighttown main entrance).
- Know which areas the game expects you to do earlier, but you can save till later (Catacombs, this area's a nightmare on any first playthrough and a joke on every subsequent playthrough when you know you can do it far later than intended).
It's also validating to see enemies behaving in the way I remember from the original console release, because years of watching speedrunners and blind playthroughs have definitely changed how I see the game. But yeah, enemies were more aggressive and shield enemies didnt really stagger. And you didnt get a lot of souls from enemies.
On my first playthrough I spent about half an hour in New Londo, because I missed the stairs even though it has a breadcrumb trail leading to it
Yuuuuuup. My friend bought the game day one and we spent 8 hours slowly crawling through there opening areas.
Knowing about the bonfire locked behind the door in The Depths would have changed so much! 😅
@@jameswilcox511 I was the same, dark souls really is as hard as people say when you need to runback from Firelink every time you have an attempt at the Gaping Dragon or try to make it to the first Blighttown bonfire. Or touch the Tomb of the Giants bonfire before lordvessel, run into a dead end, and need to climb out backwards in a single life (without either of the hidden bonfires), like I did in my first playthrough. Or you finally make it all the way to the bottom of Blightown, and you have a massive poison swamp in every direction with no clue where to go, so you die from slow poison before you find the bonfire.
I actually managed to figure out kindling in the first hour of my games for windows live playthrough, I had no idea what it did and was confused why I had to keep rekindling at various bonfires for higher maximum estus. I did get stuck in the sewers for a few hours tho, sad times.
I work at a printing company, but I don't know what the prices or logistics are. I know we print for a local band a few times a year, and they just want white ink on black shirts. It's nice and simple. Now if you ask for colors, we got them, I mix them, but aqua inks can go straight to Izalith. No matter what I do, they always turn out dull. And the best part is the colors change depending on what light source I'm under. So a brown can look really green or yellow under one light, and orange under another. It's a real pain.
I appreciate any leniency you can offer. I promise we're... well... I'm... doing the best I can at my job with what tools, materials and knowledge I have.
This is such an interesting showcase, like, as a basis for a rebalance mod, where bosses just DON'T give many souls at all, so you HAVE to grind! Did make me laugh seeing the DS2-enemy-chasing-AI. I'm pretty used to that, since I play DS2 more than any other souls game!
This is the slowest play through I've ever seen of this game 😂 might be done by the end of the month . I can't wait to see more of it

At 2:20:00 Dan mentions disliking the sound design of DS2, and I (who played DS2 as my first from-soft game and therefore love it best) really respect that as a novel critique! Most critiques about gameplay can be solved with "level ADP" but sound design, now THAT'S a new and interesting point that isn't easily addressed in game, and I appreciate hearing that! There's a much more productive and interesting conversation to be had in there!
Shame I couldn't watch the whole thing, but I appreciate that Lemon gives us the VOD's.
I played the original patch with a friend over the first week or so the game came out, got quad cursed in The Depths and didn't post again for a couple of years 🤣
Of course, by then there were a lot of changes and improvements.

Feeling extremely seen and empathetic with the discussion of self-promotion around the 2 hour mark. Y'all are super-valid. I much prefer networking, like, "Hey, person who does a similar thing to me! Let us talk about this thing we both like!" And I get to see their eyes light up and I encourage them to tell stories and they walk away with my biz card and a positive impression of me, cuz we had something in common, ya know?
Whereas self-promotion is like, "So why should I care about you over the 60 other people who do the same thing as you, who are willing to take lower pay? Explain in 2 sentences or less, time is money, kid, chop-chop." And I doooon't have an answer XD There's not that bonding, I can never figure out what to talk about to make their eyes light up and get them nerding out over something. Cuz with recruiters? It probably isn't their work. Probably their dog or their new baby grandkids or smth. Have to use context clues, glancing around the office t spy the photos, IF the person was allowed to decorate it... I know I've had a narrower experience than some other people in other industries, but the feeling is certainly quite common
