    The public beach in Grand Cayman is Calico Jacks. Was there during my cruise last Monday. The conch fritters were amazing as well as the warm water.

    My son and I went to Calico Jack's, it was really nice, we got there early in the morning (9ish) and we were able to snag a picnic table with an umbrella. Once the restaurant opens, a server will take your order and bring it to you. It was amazing snorkeling water, we saw several fish. (We took our own snorkeling gear, so I can't attest to rental equipment)

    Grand cayman is one of my favorite place to visit. I like to go to the Royal Palms and rent a Cabana for the day. We take a taxi about $4.00 pp and a 10 minute drive!

    We loved Grand Cayman last year! We did a little adventure - hired one of the people outside the port to take us around the island for about $20. It was so much fun. And Faster to the Fun - it's our MUST HAVE!! We still have about 6 cruises until we are Platinum so for us, it's worth the cost.

    Thank you, Sam. When we went we did so much wandering because there is such little information out there for this island. The public beach signs can be hidden but boy do those little paths open up to some absolutely stunning beaches on 7 mile. We ended up at the public beach next to Comfort suits, tipped the guy 10 bucks for a chair for a little while... but your suggestion is much better!!
    The FTTF was hard for me to find on the website and it is always sold out ( Both on Freedom and Breeze)! One of these days I'll get to try it out! Sherri, thank you so much for this. I love watching you guys!

    Grand Cayman is my number one destination of the many countries I have visited over the years; so much so that I have been there maybe about 30 odd or so times. I didn't hear you mention Coconut Joe outdoor sports bar across from Comfort Suites (a great hang out spot both day and night). Also the Mango Tree Bar where both locals and tourist go. Oh how I love that place.

    This vlog helped me understand how travel agents worked. I didn't know they were paid by the cruise lines. I've always booked our cruises and trips myself because I figured agents would charge crazy fees.

    • @Travelwith_Adrienne
      @Travelwith_Adrienne 7 років тому

      Ms Melissa I was thanking the same thing. So glad I watch

    • @angelahendy3432
      @angelahendy3432 7 років тому +1

      Ms Melissa it works the same pretty much everywhere for travel agents. ☺
      I work in hospitality and the travel agents get commissionable rates from hotels, cruise lines, etc. I'm lucky enough to have a cousin who is a cruise travel agent, and book through her for a win win. Little tip on hotels though, if you see a less expensive rate either through an agent or a site like Expedia (etc) call the hotel. Chances are they will either match (potentially with better cancellation terms and less hassle for changes) or beat the rates as they no longer will be paying the commission - which is usually around 10%! Of course there are exceptions, namely the blind booking tools (where you put in a price and get assigned a hotel randomly) or advance purchase rates. For hotels, these are hands off and can't be matched.

    • @MissDesdemona
      @MissDesdemona 7 років тому

      Angela Hendy I recently learned about booking through the hotel for a better rate. The hotel I chose for Mother's Day weekend actually charged less than the price on Expedia. I've never used a travel agent before so all this is new to me. I'm usually the one doing the research and calling around to find the best rates for trips and excursions.

    • @angelahendy3432
      @angelahendy3432 7 років тому +1

      Ms Melissa it's actually usually the case in 99% of hotels, and I'm glad you found that out recently ... I work for a well know international chain, and it's difficult for us to have to tell a guest "I'm sorry, for changes you have to call Expedia (for example). We would much rather be able to assist with things like that if you book for a hotel stay, and likely with common discounts you'd be paying less. It's a little known tip as Expedia and others advertise as if they are he lowest available.
      That being said cruises are a different story. I will always book through my TA (also my cousin). She will get the commission, and I get the peace of mind knowing that there are price drop alerts in her software that protect me until the final payment. Also if there's a special occasion and you let them know, sometimes your agent will arrange a surprise or something special for you.

    • @MissDesdemona
      @MissDesdemona 7 років тому

      Angela Hendy Thank you for all that information. I'm going to look into travel agents for my next big vacation because it can be exhausting doing everything myself for a large group of people. I'm usually traveling with family and booking everything myself.

    hey Sherri! Thanks for your videos they are so helpful! I do have a quick question though? Do you use a waterproof case for your cell phone when you get in the pool or go someplace like snorkeling? I have looked on your Marketplace and there are a few but my husband is a iffy on using one at all and just leaving our phones in the room safe this is our first cruise so he's a little apprehensive; I on the other hand I'm looking at reviews and have found a couple that have really great reviews ans would be willing to try... your thoughts?

    with Costco you have to be a member to shop in there store. I would say pc Richard and son , best buy like you metioned
    Walmart. I like real camera's over your phone when I went to Canada in September 2016 I took a throw away camera.
    I agree I never take more than 200.00 when traveling. I get cash out of the atm and I think about how much I need
    and I do use cash a lot. like you said each person is different. a well done video.

    Cruising out of Fort Lauderdale, I heard of you arrive before your assigned check in time you will not be allowed inside the building to check in ( unless you are a diamond or platinum member), with FTTF can you also check in at anytime (early) instead of your assigned check in time?

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  7 років тому

      With FTTF, they usually tell you want time to arrive. For us, it's been around 11am, but I'm not too sure about FLL. Check your fine print on the FTTF purchase to see what time to arrive.

    My travel agent is actually a family friend and doesn't make any money off of me. When she books my cruises she passes the savings along to us, which is super nice (I actually took that money and used it to take my whole booking party - including her and her family - to Cucina del Capitano on our last cruise). But the biggest reason I'm an advocate for using a travel agent is in case something goes wrong. Recently she had a customer whose flight got cancelled and they somehow got skipped over when the airline had to re-ticket guests for a rescheduled flights. She had her printed confirmation email in hand and everything was showing up right on the travel agent's end, but the airline didn't have her ticket number and couldn't check her in. Long story short, the travel agent got everything worked out and she successfully made it to her vacation destination but it's a scary thing to think about when you consider how much money you spend on a vacation with possibly no one to speak for you in case the airline, cruiseline, etc. mess up.
    There was an instance, for me, when she had a group booking for a cruise but the price for the cruise was showing a lower price for me when I was browsing the cruise line's website. We couldn't figure out why but I went all the way up in the booking engine up to the point where you actually pay and sent her a screenshot and she called the cruise line to figure out why she had a different price. Apparently I was receiving an exclusive past guest deal that wasn't showing up on her end but she was able to get the cruise line to let her use the deal through her agency and then added my cabin to her booking group so I got savings AND the group amenities. Travel agents are your friends! It's their job to make sure you get the best vacation possible! :)

    Hey Sheri! Awesome vlog as always, and can't wait to see the rest from your Miracle cruise.
    Going back to the camera question for a sec (and honestly I can't remember if I've asked this before or not because I've been thinking about it for awhile), but what are your thoughts about purchasing a camera while on board a ship? I'm considering buying a nicer camera and have given thought to buying it on the ship; do you think the deals are comparable to what you might find on land?

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  7 років тому +1

      +Steve Roth hey Steve! Yah, I think they are pretty price controlled and while you won't get a deal on a camera, like you would at Costco or B&H photo, you'll probably get some decent service and an eager sales rep!

    I understand what FTTF includes and for what price, but I still don’t understand if it’s really worth it? We have a flight that comes in around 4 pm to San Juan for our honeymoon cruise. The sail away time is 10 pm. Should we still get FTTF or will everyone else already be on the boat?

    Credit cards - it is nice to have one or two that do not charge foreign transaction fees in port, many are free. I've seen these from $2.50-$5 per transaction. You do get a better exchange rate on a CC than changing money. AMEX generally does not charge such a fee but is not always accepted everywhere due to their high merchant fees. i carry an AMEX and MC that do not charge such fees. AMEX does have an interesting service if you frequently rent vehicles. For $25, they will give you extensive car rental coverage for up to 30 days I believe. If you opt for the service, it will be automatically billed whenever you rent a car. While most credit cards give you some coverage, they do not cover "loss of use" which can be very expensive. This basically is claimed lost revenue while a care is being repaired or replaced. This coverage is far cheaper than taking it from the rental companies.
    NCL laundry - not sure what level the person who asked the question was. A great new perk for Latitudes is gold members get half price on a bag of laundry, platinum and above get a free bag. We usually do a back to back in February and this is awesome!
    Another great video!

    so, I have been looking for a travel agent but no luck yet. I live in a small town and I am land lock. It is hard finding one that knows Cruising. I did fine one but she also bails bonds person, sale real estate, It makes me wonder how good of travel agent she is when she doing other things. I fine agents on the East or West Coast but I really would like one that is closer. No one I know uses a travel agent. Only one person it was not her it was her daughter she did not know the name of the travel agent. I am going to keep looking. Before I go with someone out of state.
    I be going to the Cayman islands in December my nephew wants to see the turtle farm and Hell. Last time I was in the Cayman islands the restaurant. we ate at had turtle on the menu.
