- shiver wins every splatfest in my opinion because nintendo is trying to set up something for the next game. The hate she gets is a bit undeserved.

Nah I think they’ll give it to Frye. Think about it, she’s only won one splatfest. She’d probably get mad at Shiver, run away, have a villain arc, and Shiver will get character development and have to save her.

Sadly, the Japanese love Shiver more than Mint Chocolate and the people who like it in the west are far lesser than Vanilla and Strawberry. IMHO they wanted Big Man to win the ice cream one too. We all know that whoever Japan chooses wins after all!

The problem is that it’s no longer as fun when you know who’s gonna win. The fun thing about splatfest is that you don’t know which team is gonna win so it’s like you’re anticipating something it adds to the excitement. But when you know that there’s like a 90% chance one idol is gonna win simply because of the popularity it’s no longer as enjoyable that’s just me though

Deadass. Getting spawncamped so bad by Shiver fans to the point where our team just… sits there and takes a loss? That’s so unfun. I missed a lot of Splatfests in S2 because of school, so when I became an adult and S3 came out, and I finally had enough money, I was really excited to play my first real, full Splatfest! I started during Nessie v Aliens v Bigfoot and was super hyped for the new 3-team playstyle. The win seemed pretty fair and balanced, and I had no problem! But then the Zeldafest happened. Then the ice cream. And then with each fest that’s followed I gradually got less and less excited with new fest announcements. It became a dreaded reminder not to play during that time because it would be unplayable as hell.
Yeah I actually prefer to play when the splatfests aren’t happening because there’s less chaos. The match making and ranking is broken so Splatfests feel like a trash fire. Either I get placed against teams that are LEAGUES better than me or I get mirror matches.
It makes it all unfun when I know the mirror match won’t do anything for my team and I don’t want to quit and count it as a loss.
Honestly I still have fun regardless. I feel like people are taking this game way too seriously. People act like you're winning real life money in this game or something. You don't get penalized for losing so just have fun!
@@butoutofcontext that’s fair. From my pov I didn’t enjoy splatfest that much to begin with considering I was never a huge fan of just playing turf war for hours. And then adding in the fact that shiver is probably just gonna win just because. It just doesn’t seem fun anymore, there’s very little motive for me to actually play since I know there’s a large percent chance shiver wins, not to mention she usually has the better options. Again that’s just me though
splatfests are not about picking your favorite idol, its about picking your favorite option that relates to the theme. weather or not your favorite idol is on that team shouldnt matter
It’s mostly because Japanese players wins count to our spaltfest. Shiver wins because they love her, and because she’s been picking teams they want. There’s high inflation in Japan team money. They like vanilla, vanilla wins. They like white chocolate you get the point

@@Hewer86its called culture. Lets say there was a splatfest where it was different kinds of wraps. Sushi, shawarma, and burrito to fit the idols' cultural theming. Of course, in an incredibly diverse country like America, it may be based on your own experience. But in countries like Japan that mostly have tourists and not immigrants, they're going to pick sushi.

@@Hewer86 the Japanese players are far more dedicated. While there are a lil bit less of them (not by much tho) they usually are better and spend more time. To put into perspective a Japanese comp player played in a western tournament with a low teir weapon, they beat everyone so bad that they thought it was a meta pick everyone underestimated. Then when all our top players tried to play it they realized it sucked the Japanese guy was just cracked.
It might not seem annoying, but it definitely is annoying to constantly see shiver win when you get better rewards for picking the winning team in the end.
Also due to her winning, more people choose her so that they can win

Here’s why I think Shiver keeps winning:
Shiver now has a 4 Splatfest winning streak. If she’s won 4 times, there is some predictability for her winning next time. If people think she will win next time, then they will go on her team, because naturally people want to win. If more people go on Shiver’s team, the more likely that Shiver will win. And if Shiver wins, the cycle will continue. I’m calling this the Splatfest Problem/Cycle.

you're right. I have a couple of friends who generally dont care about which team they want to pick, so they try and pick the one that would most likely win (which is obviously shiver)
But that only helps her in a single category, popularity which doesn't give the most points by a long shot. Sure, it might increase her chances, but the chances that this win streak happened are still really low.
With how Shiver is acting- I kinda want her to have the villain arc because with her actions especially through every Splatfest so far (Not Story Mode). Like the wins and popularity getting to her to the point she forgets about the other two but when it’s too late- she has to go through a big journey to find back Frye and Big Man (heck even have them to go through a journey too) so they reunite again. Similar to what happened with Callie and Marie! :D
And if that is the plan- I’m actually all for it!✨

Yeah. She’s pretty self centered so it would work since the last villains we got had the same type of “wants to do their warped version of the greater good”. It would be nice to just have a villain do stuff for the sake of being a villain

Not as significant as Shiver having won _2/3_ of the nine Splatoon 3 Splatfests we've had so far (including the Splatoon 3 testfire).

currently awaiting frostyfest results right now but shiver has won 7/12 splatfests so far (6/12 in japan) with big man 3/12 and frye 1/12 (2/12 in japan)..... yeah it might not be a lot but it's definitely a big skew with her having half/more than half of big mans wins and...... way more than fryes one/two wins. its definitely discouraging from even trying when you already know who will win based on options and idol tbh.

I don’t think Region-lock is a good idea. Oftentimes it led to splatfest themes being hyperspecific and some people being overall apathetic towards them. Being more general i.e. global splatfests works better. Besides, it’s more on theme/team distribution than anything

You forgot that there is a problem with some players, racism. Many japanese fans, who affect A LOT the splatfests, are very racist to Fry, calling her monkey like, saying her skin is unappealing, and overall discrimination. And there are racist western fans too! This doesn't mean that the majority of shiver fans are racist, but it does affect her a lot, it probably also did to marina, like damn, marina even got a plush of her whitewashed, an official plushie... they can't take a break. It's not like there aren't other factors, it's just that some poc in the splatoon community themselves found these events of racism in the splatoon fandom

im not sure if the plush was intentional, for some reason people just tend to be very stupid when adapting colors in 2d art into fabric colors. so they took the pastel but obviously still meant to be dark skin, and just used a light beige fabric to try and recreate it (at least this is what i can assume from my knowledge in plush making and 2d art/color theory)
I don't think that Shiver herself is the problem or even her "simps", who I doubt exist in such high numbers to literally destroy the entire splatfest system, rather splatfest themes are to blame. In my opinion in splat3 themes became really one-sided, most of the time you can easily tell what team is going to win the moment they announce the new splatfest is coming. For me it was the case when sweet, vanilla and power won.
Of course sweet was gonna be very popular but comparing to other choices it was the only mild flavour, for others it was literally destroy your mouth and stomach with spiciness or with acid. There were no salty choice for example or something like umami flavour. You can also say the same happened to icecream splatfest where vanilla was so popular because it's the most basic flavour out of three, you can also add any toppings to it so of course people were choosing it. Something similar happened with Zelda splatfest, people love villains and simping for new Ganon design was at it's finest so yeah, power won.
And yes you can say that there were some unexpected results like in chocolate splatfest or when Nessie won but it rather something rare not the norm. Some people also saying that money team win was also strange but it would be much shocking if fame won. The question of this splatfest was either it's gonna be money of love and the first one won so nothing to be shocked about.
And while we're on the topping of the team choices i cannot notice that Shiver really does get most popular choices most of the time. And I get that those choices aremade with characters personality in mind like I bet that Callie would choose to read a book at home while she could go hang out with her friends instead but some choices feal kinda strange. Like the whole gang would totally choose money if they could they are the treasure hunters after all but they couldn't. And in that case Shiver looks much more like a fame gal for me, Frye would totally choose money. But developers just can't let this happen because it would mean that two strong teams are gonna be together while the weaker one is shoved to the side. And now bear with me when I say it but that's actually a composition trick that developers need to use for it to look good. That's also the reason behind Frye curse and why she keeps getting those shitty choices. She either need to get a really good one to outshine the other two or be the worst option. It's all happening just because she sits in the middle. Going back to Shiver it's also the reason why it's literally impossible for her to get the weakest team because the general rule of composition is to go from left to right. So the only good arrangements that we have are:
[strong - weak - strong] - "money vs fame vs love" splatfest,
[weak - strong - the weakest] - "spicy vs sweet vs sour" splatfest,
and [the strongest - strong - weak] - "vanilla vs strawberry vs mint chocolate" splatfest.
Of course there's also featured splatfest where placement of choices is usually based on the original material like in Zelda one or in Pokemon one and it's basically [strong - strong - strong] but I don't think that should counts actually because it's based on people's experience with other games.
So yeah, Shiver isn't a really problem, the main problem is that there's now three teams an devs just don't know how to work with it
Btw some people would totally say that I'm defending Shiver and no, I don't. Actually she's my least favourite idol out of the trio. I'm just an artist who tend to know some composition theory and is really mad that Frye once again got the worst option.

@@Hewer86 I didn't mean it like that, first of all I didn't choose all the options I called "the obvious one" like in Zelda splatfest I was on team Courage so I wasn't always on the winning team. What I wanted to say is that there's a real thing that you can tell that some options are gonna be more popular than others because people tend to like them more in real life outside splatfests and game in general. Usually that's a result of weird options choices by dev team. Like if you ask people in real life "What's the best pet? Cat or dog?" the results are gonna be 50/50, but if you ask "Cat or hamster or parrot?" most people will choose cats because there is a well known fact that a lot of people love cats and the amount of cat-lovers is much bigger than the amount of people who love hamsters or birds. For me it's the same with some of the splatfests, sometimes you just look at the theme and go "uh yes this team is totally gonna win" because it's obvious that one of the teams is gonna be more popular than others. In other cases it's even worse because it feels like there's only one right options like in "gear vs grub vs fun". I knew it from the start that team Gear is going to win, of course people are gonna choose it like it didn't even feel like an actual question with multiple answers. The same goes for flavour splatfest, yes there are many people who like spicy food yet I've never met anyone who would say that their favourite flavour was sour. It seemed like the choices were designed for team Sweet to win because there's a lot of people who love sweet things. And that what I was talking about, some splatfests are really one sided and to me it seems that devs just don't know how to work around that "three sides" thing. For me it's a huge problem but it looks like they don't really do anything about it.

Hmmm I think a good solution to this could actually be to not show what topic the characters pick intill the splatfest starts, that way no one picks one character because that’s what their favorite character picked, then they will have to pick their actual favorite theme
That actually sounds reasonable. Like pick a fest theme, the order is randomised so you can’t assume the first option is Shiver’s, and then later it’s revealed who’s in support of what. So people pick the thing they like. AND if Nintendo would stop assigning Shiver the most obvious popular choices. Like money, power, vanilla, etc.

Splatfests were never about picking your favorite idol outside of Idol vs Idol fests. Yes, Idol bias *does* play a part of the thing, but it’s majorly based off of splatfests themes.
Although personally, I do get why people are having less fun with fests. The results are getting super predictable so I guess a lot of people default to the “what’s the point in playing if Shiver is just gonna win again?” mindset, which I don’t blame them on.

Reading most of these comments, I do agree with most of the ones I read. Splatfests are about choosing your favorite topic, NOT idol, this is excluding the recent Splatfest since it was basically that. If you cannot decide on the topic (Like me with the ice cream flavors), choose your favorite color, if you like all three colors then that is when you choose your favorite idol. But yes, I do see Splatfests becoming less fun if the same idol keeps winning due to favoritism. I do not care about winning of losing but it is bad when topics are constantly won by a "character bias" (if that makes sense). Like, it is predictable at this point, that it is less competitive and less exciting to play. It is not other teams being unreasonable it is basically the fact of us being sick of a topic winning due to "character bias" and not the actual topic. I am not trying to sound hateful in any way towards Shiver, they are an overall good character with great characteristics.

okay, but counterpoint:
there are several people who only really play Splatoon during a Splatfest, me included. Constantly losing matches, so many times, to one team, so much so you have to switch from your favorite weapon to a more reliable one solely just so you can even get a chance of winning is a terrible feeling. I know that because I had to do just that in this past one yesterday, just to find out that Shiver held half the fucking vote. I’m so pissed because she’s won 7 out of the 10(counting the Rock/Paper/Scissors) Splatfests, while Big Man won only 2 and Frye only got one. things like that just make you never want to play, which is exactly what I’m gonna do. Until she loses or Side Order comes out, I’m not playing
Good point... also explains why the next splatfest is a sort of "pick your favorite" splatfest like Callie vs Marie. If they left that for last, there would be a huge risk Shiver wins it! Now they can give Shiver the clearly worst pick for final fest...
Plus, if any of deepcut is to become an enemy in some way, Shiver would be the coolest to fight against. She has the most flair and ego, which would make for a more tense set-up with more potential for a grand finale.

Besides that, her boss fight in Alterna is utterly pathetic. ‘One of the fastest fights in the franchise’s history’-level pathetic. She definitely deserves a better fight, and what better motivator than letting power go to her head?
I actually found Shiver's fight the hardest, simply bc you have to constantly chase Master Mega in a circle to cover him in ink, and then *wait* for him to charge through the arena to damage him with Smallfry. Super tedious. X_X
OTOH Frye's fight was okay and Big Man's was an absolute joke, even without the radar upgrade. @@waitingfortheequinnox

Well whats the point in having these splatfests that are supposed to be competitive if the chances of me winning are 99 to 1? And besides, people shouldnt pick teams based on idols. It should be over the choices the idols give and Shiver always gets all the ones people are going to choose. Its unfair and makes for an unenjoyable experience when the results come in. "Oh boy, Shiver won AGAIN. Just like last time..."

Gonna also point out, since there 3 choices instead of 2, the score between all of them always gonna look off, people make it seem there a huge bias to shiver, if we add bigman and fry score together it'll look more even, also let's be honest if we just remove shiver bigman gonna get a win streak and no one would have a problem with that.
ALSO shiver tend to have the better themes along side with bigman, no hate just wanna point the extra stuff out,

The problem is that Shiver has won 7 out of the 10 splatfest. I'd argue that win rates should be less likely, since there are three idols now and that means that the fanbase should be spread out more. Imo they just need to rework all the idols, but I doubt that that's possible at this point since the game has already been out for a year.

I counted the Splatfest wins:
> Callie has 9 and Marie has 7. The difference is 2.
> Pearl has 13 and Marina has 14. The difference is 1.
> Shiver has 7 (because this is old), Frye has 1 and Big Man has 2. The difference here is bigger (Shiver - Frye = 6 and Shiver - Big Man = 5).
Also, Shiver having the majority of the wins doesn't guarantee that she will lose the final Splatfest. It's all a popularity contest in the end and if the audience is mostly made up of Shiver choosers, then it is no contest. It is essentially unanimous.
Or maybe, since more than half the player-base is in Japan, they might be a little biased towards the only traditionally Japanese character.
I choose according to the theme. The last splatfest was frustrating. GG mates of team Frye. I wanted to lay down my thoughts.
The problem is that there are 3 options instead of 2.
When you have 2 options and one gets 54% and the other gets 46% for example, there could be a chance to beat the popular answer, even a 60:40 ratio is still possible for the underdogs ..
ANYWAY, when you have three options and 53% chose an answer, there are 47% of people who refused that answer and would prefer the other one. However, in this case there are 2 others, so that 47% is unevenly divided AGAIN. This creates a similar ratio to 53:17:30 for example. This makes it ABSOLUTELY impossible for the underdogs to flip the results no matter how hard they worked.
Popularity isn’t a big deal when there are 2 options and the chances are 50/50. Some players vote but miss the splatfest or some don’t even get to play as much, this makes flipping the table possible. But when the ratio is brutally favoring one option out of THREE, this means the gap between first place and last place would be huge to the point where the chance of winning won’t be recovered.
Anyway, I do believe Shiver’s popularity in Japan and getting better answers has a huge effect as well.

I think the issue with splatoon 3’s splatfests is that they’re getting more objective, when the characters were discussing the money love fame one they asked “which one is the most important in life?” when in s2 it was “which is more important to you” the 1st one feels like its generalizing the entirety of everyones life while s2’s question feels more subjective, splatfest is just better when its subjective honestly

Splatoon 1 and 2 both had only 2 idols so one idol getting more victories wasn't a big deal. And you should know many choose Shiver because they simp over her or they just liked the ink color.
Splatfests are about both fun and winning, that said even Japanese Shiver fans are getting tired of Shiver winning.
Something else to consider that I know bothers some people (myself included tbh) is that there are THREE teams to pick from in each fest. With the previous games only having two, it made sense that one team would be favored over the other. But with three teams, you would expect to see some variety in the votes, right? I can't say for certain, but hasn't Shiver had the majority in votes for most of the splatfests? (Even to the point that in this latest fest, she got half of the total votes.) I know it's the players who pick her simply because they like her character and not because of the theme, and there's nothing that can be done to stop that.
TLDR; Shiver winning splatfests isn't the problem, it's the amount of votes she gets that makes winning the splatfest almost easy.
1) Despite having only two idols, splatoon 1 and 2 had more even win ratios (9:7 and 13:14, compared to deep cut's 7:1:2. Even if we combined fry's and big man's wins it's still more uneven than the other two games). But it's early days, this could be an anomaly.
2) Splatfest is absolutely not about picking your favourite idol, if it was we would get the same idol winning every single fest without exception. Splatfest is about picking your favourite of the choices, the one you think is the best. People have not been doing that in splatoon 3 for some reason.
3) Idc about winning or losing, as long as it feels like I had a chance in the first place, that all the battles I won actually went towards something, instead of having an almost garunteed loss unless I voted for whatever shiver was backing. It genuinely does take some of the fun out of splatfest. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
It's like you're exaggerating the facts on purpose. And I'm sure I'll get a comment or two saying I'm mad over a kids game or w/e. I'm not angry, it's just disappointing when I know things could be better.

Nintendo/Splatoon devs are causing Shiver’s team to win every Splatfest so that they can “fix” their own Splatoon timeline.
These are reasons why people are quitting Splatfests or even Splatoon itself, is because it’s all fixed.

When I bought Splatoon 3 and finally joined in, I did expect SOME part of the community to be childish and sore losers about splatfests. What I didn’t expect, was them being angry at the fictional characters who sat there doing nothing and not at the people who just joined their team and did the work.
Chaos won because most preferred Pearl’s opinion. So why is it hard to believe that people genuinely like Vanilla, power and money? (Saying this as someone who only picked Shiver for rock and Vanilla)
Do Frye and Big man deserve more attention? Yes. Is it Shiver’s fault? No. Because the idols are assigned to their teams. They don’t choose them.
Then again, white chocolate won because of the ink colour. So I guess we get a few surprises.

white chocolate definitely did not win because of the ink color. yes some people do genuinely prefer how it tastes compared to other chocolate. not to mention white chocolate is insanely popular in japan so in comparison people picking it because of the color is a rather low percentage to complain about.

To me it does nullify it, in a way. Because it feels like no matter what you pick if it’s not Shiver you probably won’t win. So a lot of people pick Shiver to win so they can get more snails, then the teams become unbalanced, and the win is guaranteed. And a lot of Shiver’s players, especially foreign players who have been grinding the games since their release, are sweaty, overpowered, and unfun to play against. My teams were constantly getting spawncamped by Japanese sniper teams. This makes me think that if Nintendo really is doing it on purpose to “lead up” to the final fest to determine the plot of the 4th game, they went about it in such a weird way. Because they chose the character with some of the WORST fans. I got *genuinely harassed* in a Splatoon server for choosing Frye’s team for the MFL splatfest and Big Man’s for the VSM splatfest because “players who don’t pick shiver are actually so r*tarded and don’t play to win like real players should”.

At least Shiver is very humble in her winning dialogue. In fact all of deep cut are so nice to each other in comparison to the previous idols. I don't see any of them having an outburst like Marina did that one time. Shiver also seems like the type of person who would smack the people on her team with her fan who are just simps especially if they put down Frye or big man.
I was in Team Big Man and honestly, I was expecting Shiver to win because:
1.) In my personal opinion, she definitely gives off that kind of “girl boss” vibe which very much makes her look like a leader.
2.) Shiver is very popular amongst so many Splatoon fans and I can’t blame them! (I too am a huge fan of Shiver and she is my favorite Deep Cut idol. I picked Big Man because most of my friends were on his team and I wanted to simply co-op with them for this Splatfest. Anyways I’m getting off topic.)
I was laughing my butt off when Shiver won the last current Splatfest because I was amused by the winning streak.
I was perfectly neutral with the results because even though my Team lost to Shiver, I still had a lot of fun playing the game itself!
I think so many people get so wrapped up with which idol is winning more. Especially how Splatoon as a franchise has reached a much wider audience, so naturally speaking the franchise was bound to get overflown with so much sore loser toxicity. With people bickering about “Damn it! So and so keeps winning!! I hate them!!”, they tend to have forgotten that the idol is only promoting the theme.
Setting everything aside, I also think it’s important that at the end of the day, we’re all just playing a game with the Splatfest being something of a little extra fun by having a theme around it. It’s all supposed to be fun and games and yet, these toxic fans take these Splatfests waaaay too seriously.
I dunno. I love the Splatoon franchise, but it seems like over recent years in general that people have just lost their manners and are just typing such toxic bullshit in BIG CAPS to “act tough”. Like is a simple, fun Splatfest really worth all that constant negativity?

Then again.. This is my personal take on this whole Splatfest drama.
And she wins a 5th in a row.....This really has gotten ridiculous. Its extremely frustrating seeing one character win all the time and knowing Japan is likely skewing the results, considering there's no more region locked Splatfests. You'd think with one more idol than the previous two, the wins would have been spread out a little more spread out. With Splatoon 1 for the first 9, it was 7-2. In Splatoon 2, it was much more even with 5-4. Right now its 6-1-2.
Even Japanese players are tired of Shiver always winning.

The real big issue with these splatfests compared to 1 and 2 is that out of all of them, there was only one, ONE winner that wasn’t the most popular, and even then Aliens was barely more popular than Nessie

ill try to keep that in mind for frosty fest. i havent joined any of shiver's teams and have decided against it ever since gear vs grub vs fun. its started as personal preference and dumb jokes, but now im dedicated to my craft of never helping silly fictional octopus out. however, ive been favoring big man's options more recently, so i might take a look at frye soon.

B - Pearl won quite a lot of Splatfests in 2
And C - with “people are picking Shiver because they like her” explain how Callie won most Splatoon 1 splatfests but the final splatfest of that game, literally called, “who do you like more?” Marie won that

The splatfest is not about picking your favorite idol, it is about picking your favorite of the three themed choices. Why they gave the most popular character some of the most popular choices I will never know.

Whilst Marina did end up winning almost as many as Pearl in the end, Pearl still managed to get a 5 win streak in Europe at the very beginning. Guess we’ll see just how many Shiver wins by the end of the game’s lifespan.

For the most part I like the options big man is given, I haven't won a single splatfest since starting splatoon 3 and I'm thinking of just siding with the shiver teams now because I really need super sea snails as I barely get any. If you can't beat em, join em I guess. :(
I don't hate any of the idols for winning, I always choose my preference for splatfest theme. At this point it's a little annoying and I just want some of the better rewards so I can expand my gear slots.

but didn't this issue also happen in 1 and 2? i didn't play 1 but i vivibly remember that Marina usually won the splatfest when i played 2 and i heard that the green girl usually won as well

I have mostly voted Shivers side too, but not even because Shiver is my fave (it’s big man) but a lot of the past options that Shiver had were once I’d rather choose other the other ones.
