- Completed by Mstislav Rostopovich (for cello and piano) in 1956 and subsequently orchestrated by Dmitri Kabalevsky.

Although incomplete at the time of the composer's death, Prokofiev had been working closely with Rostropovich and, I understand, had made it fairly clear how he intended the piece to be in its finished form, at least for cello and piano. The details of Kabalevsky's orchestration I know nothing about but the Concertino is a wonderful example of how collaborations can really work. It remains a recognisably Prokofievian piece of music and is, effectively, a fitting tribute to one of the giants of 20th Century music.........
