There were tens of thousands of Anabaptists murdered by Unholy Roman Imperial persons. Men, women and children. They died for love of the Saviour of humankind. Their example of bravery is worth recalling.
My father was from Schaffhausen, Switzerland where the Schleitheim articles of the Anabaptist faith were drawn up. (I did not know that latter fact until many years later). As a Protestant follower of the reformer Zwingli, he immigrated to Canada in 1929 and married my mother, an Irish Roman Catholic but in order to marry in the Catholic church (she wouldn't have it any other way), he had to sign a document swearing that he would never try to influence any future offspring in the Protestant faith, which promise he kept. I was convent bred in the '40s and '50s (pre-Vatican II years). Things were very different back then. I grew up in the belief that my poor old dad was on his way to an everlasting warmer climate. Fast forward...I came out of the Catholic church forty-four years ago and immediately embraced the Reformation ideal of the former 'enemy', those heretic Protestants. That didn't last too long as I could see from the beginning that, in fact, a lot had been left unreformed. Amongst other things, I totally rejected infant baptism. It was a few years more until I was exposed to the story of the Anabaptists. What a shock to find out that this group were the ones who truly believed in Sola Scriptura and severely persecuted for their beliefs by my dad's old hero Zwingli.
What a great and inspiring and important project! It seems really important to keep the memory of this history alive (and even bring it to people's consciousness!). I'm looking forward to seeing it in print.
@Peter Stanbury Theorist Mark Fisher talked about the prevailing ideology of capitalist realism. i e no alternative to socially managed decline under late capitalism. Acid Communism is an antidote to this, letting our imaginations loose to reconsider what a socialist future might look like. The acid bit represents a rewiring, thinking outside of the box. @Peter Stanbury The concept of #AcidCommunism is a provocation and a promise. It is a joke of sorts, but one with very serious purpose. It points to something that, at one point, seemed inevitable, but which now appears impossible: the convergence of class consciousness, socialist-feminist consciousness-raising and psychedelic consciousness, the fusion of new social movements with a communist project, an unprecedented aestheticisation of everyday life. - Mark Fisher
@ we have been communist for the majority of our existence as a species, even under capitalism increasingly life is socialised, it's prefigured in new technology and millions of people want it. Even the experiments you sight, when considering the evidence were majorly successful. You are just regurgitating dogma.
Isn't baptism just another ritual? Wasn't the getting rid of rituals a fundermental at the very basis of the reformation. How can preachers preach ritual (baptism) and call themselves reformationalists or Anabaptist reformationalists? If God watches over Anabaptists, reformationalists, Christians and all mankind. Then he surly saw and was witness to the millions the reformationalists murdered over the centuries for the purpose of ridding themselves of what they claim are useless rituals and icons and icon worship? So isn't it just so very bizarre that some would claim to be part of a supposed religious organisation or movement yet preach ritual (re-baptism) as the very nature of what they re about. IE they claim to be reformationalists who do the complete opposite of what they claim they are in essence as an organisation standing for!
Hello Mike, new testament believers baptism is not a ritual but a church ordinance , commanded by Jesus Christ in his great commission. Its is our publick testimony of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. " Santify them through thy truth , thy word is truth " , We need to read our King James Bibles . Farewell.

This is a very interesting story, but this man is so monotone it’s hard to listen to.
