I pretty much exclusively play single player games. LA Noire is not the best game I've played, but it's my favorite. This was the first narrative driven game I fell in love with and haven't looked back since. The game immerses you in its world from the beginning, the pacing is great, the story is gripping and the soundtrack is incredible. Thanks for making this ColourShed.
KANE I’m glad we can agree ;) fell In love with this game in like 2014 totally felt like I was living in the 40s
Yup, games like this, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War, Metal Gear, The Last Gaurdian, Uncharted.... when you get done playing those, you get the satisfaction and final closure like you would from finishing a good book. Great stories.
Why don't you play multiplayer
yeah ive replayed this game many times
@@logannaslund1057 god you don't have to put like in ur sentence. Jesus
My criminology teacher (one of the bests in the country) mentioned this game and said that it is really impressive and accurate.
Thats awsome
Can I know the name of the teach?
bro thats crazy but when did i ask
@Arthur Payne Is your brother Max Payne?
If you didn’t play the fuck out of this game when you were 13 then your not a real Jew
"Cole Phelps. Badge 1247."
I used to have real nightmares about that line during the week when I was getting the platinum for this game...
How can I help Detective?
@@Lucas02000 AAAAHHH!!!
@@Lucas02000 Thanks, ma'am.

What do you mean
People who say finding the clues and stuff are too easy, you can actually turn the hints off making the game more difficult.
Seems like too much work especially in third person.I like the musical chimes which briefly play when you're searching for clues. It helped with hinting where the clue is but also doing it without annoying onscreen pop-ups. Very well made.
Was about to comment this
@Ninjerown Wa
Ninjerown 😂😂😂😂😂
Finding all the vehicles isn’t easy xD
L.A. Noire 2 needs to take place in 90's LA at the height of the crack epidemic, bloods vs crips, Hispanic gang warfare, and with the themes of LA confidential and Heat as well. Fighting heavily armed bank robbers and taking on a divided city amidst the 1992 riots would be absolutely phenomenal.
Or you could play San Andreas ...
@@trapsnake6 Lmao true true
Thats most likely the point Silent K..
I'd like to see a Miami Noire. Where you play as an 80's undercover cop taking down drug runners while driving expensive sports cars with Phil Collins blaring in the background.
Granted, you could tell me to just play GTA: Vice City again (despite it having a more Scarface-feel than MV), but I really want a true Miami Vice-style game be it with or without the license.
Matthew Cool or you could play Scarface😋
or True crime. streets of LA
This is a clear look back at a seminal game. I still believe it’s the most ambitious game ever made from a narrative perspective. Pure noir. It’s hard to believe Ross Macdonald or James m Cain didn’t write it. And technically, for 2011? That amazing city is still the star. As it is in all of rockstars recent games, the real star is the world.
I wish another team as crazy as Team Bondi would make another labor of love to rival this insane work of art and madness.
The same way LA Noire was ambitious with their narrative, is the same way Shenmue was ambitious with their atmosphere and realism to start the open world genre for it's time.
LA Noire was the first game I noticed how the characters facial expression was more pronounced and emphasized.
RDR2 IS BETTER
Well said, that's what I always loved about Rockstar-the beautiful world and story like in RDR1/2.
My comment is almost literally the exact opposite of this.
What are you talking about? Even by 2011 standards that wasn't a good city
I cannot get enough of your channel! Great work
Beat this WAY back in 2011. Got this on launch, beat it by August right before 7th grade started. Now I'm 20, finished with 2 years of college, and man does this bring back memories. Loved it then, but I'd love to replay the whole game now since I'd understand the plot and some of the jokes more. Masterpiece of a game, and 8 years later there's yet to be a game with this much depth.
1:19 excuse me what?
I thought the same xD
Would;ve been funnier if he was run over and went over them.
Nice pun eh?
Foxy 1525 nay
Glad I was not the only one who saw that lmao.
I think the ending is to mimick the cliché ending of classic noir films. Think about Chinatown, for example. Film noir is known for a lot of clichés; pessimist ending are one of those.
This is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I loved every second of LA Noire.
I dunno...I thought the 1576th second dragged a bit.
LA Noire is an absolute Masterpiece
Is it though?
I was WAY too young when I played this to appreciate and understand just how good this was, still played through the whole way loving it. Can’t wait to try it again soon.
This are the things I think they should do in the sequel:
- Do it a linear game, no open world, instead give x4 amount of details. I feel like the open world only hurt the game with its silly driving and doll city
- Less combat, and make it a lot more realistic and tactic
- Fewer cases, but make them longer. Cases that last weeks or even months
- Do it In 1950's LA playing as Jack or 1970s New York.
“You can’t shoot a random person on the street, you’re a police detective” ah in a perfect world...
If only we lived there
Or of only we kept that mentality. I rather live in that alternative reality.
>person committing crime gets shot
>grr police bad
L.A. Noire holds a special place close to my heart as it was the first game I 100%'d ever on the Xbox 360, One, PS4, and PC! So much Cole Phelps! Just wish you could do activities with your partner in free mode, I wouldn't mind bowling! :D
Same here, its my only platinum trophy on PS4.
Fair and wonderful review. This game is wonderful piece of Noir Detective fun. It's also a cautionary tale of ambition and game development. Because honestly it's a miracle this game even got made. Hopefully Rockstar will look past the past troubles of development to the very real positive potential in this property and see fit to give this franchise another shot. Then they'll have the full gambit: Western, School, Urban and Noir genres games!
This game holds a special place with me. Just immersed me so well into a time and place I never thought I'd have any interest in.
Played through the entire of this game a few months ago.A true unique experience.
Good job,Aussies.
Btw,love your videos, coloured shed.If you continue like this i will never unsubscribe.
L.A. Noire is a brilliantly absorbing game and somehow it took me a 2nd play on the next gen console before realising that. I think the main problem with Team Bondi was they got overambitious which led to too much overtime. If you'd reduced the game to half it's size, it'd still be brilliant. They could have published all the other content via DLC or via a sequel. Noire's 1940s L.A. is enormous and rich in detail. I would love to see more games like this, it's truly a unique gem.
A LA Noire set in the Late 70s with Malase era cars would be awesome. How cool would it be chasing down baddies in a Dodge Monaco?
That’s no longer noir
A starsky and hutch type game
When I first played L.A. Noire I was pretty sad at the finale but to me I thought it was fitting end. Cole was a good cop and one way or another he was going to meet an untimely end.
For me, _L.A. Noire_ was a masterpiece of a game. Completely gripping from beginning to end. Sure, the ending should have focused more on Cole, but I still don't see as bad as people make it out to be.
I hope they make a prequel or a sequel to L.A. Noire. This game has it's flaws and frustrating moments, but goddamn the story is dark and good. It would be a shame not to improve and expand this universe. Thanks for the reviews. They bring back many fond memories of playing these games in a dimly lit room at night, and sipping on some Coke and Scotch in the progress.
I played this game with all DLCs and I really liked, but it is clear that the DLC chapters were intended to be in the game. Data mining you can find data about the DLC chapters on disc and they are seamlessly integrated in the story, it is awkward to play as separate chapters, but they are not as essential to the overall plot either. Although I liked, especially the ending, I wouldnt play again.
It would be cool to talk about The Getaway, it is very flawed in many ways, but I like it too. The city is not very good for car chases, the gunplay is kinda clunky, but I think what they tried to achieve is really interesting, using only diagetic systems instead of a tradition heads-up display (HUD) .To know where to turn, car lights blink); if you need to reload the controller vibrates a little); if your health is low the suit is dirty with blood; but I highly advise to only play with the instruction manual in hand, because the game does not stop any second to explain controls and the HUD or lack of it.
I remember being blown away by the artistic nature of this game, but bored to death of the gameplay. When the shootouts happened, like at the film set, I really enjoyed it. But they were too few and far between! Great review though. It's nice to watch a long review of the game, as I've had an itch to go back and play this game.
The linearity could have been leveraged by dropping the open world and making it a more confined point and click game, it would have helped with the blu-ray storage and workload and would benefit the story more. Of course this would mean losing the recreation of Los Angeles and the mainstream appeal of being an open world game.
Heavy Rain- PS3 - Another creation ahead of its time, now buried and forgotten.
JASON!
That glitch video on UA-cam where he just keeps yelling Shaun at the end of the game still kills me.
One of if not my favorite game of all time.
What I find funny about Heavy Rain is it's basically a movie, with a reasonably specific story, converted into a video game where the player defines the details of the script. That's why Madison can die so early, because she can be a red herring and a nightingale, supporting ally to the main protagonist, expositional device, or ultimate hero. If you play it enough times you can actually make conscious decisions to reshape the narrative into the best possible version of the story, in your opinion. It's like somebody's brainstorm as a video game.
@@futurestoryteller Well said.. 😀
You can't "win" a fist fight if he knocks your hat off bro! ;)
I am actually shocked to hear how Team Bondi went under. I was always led to believe that big bad Rockstar destroyed "the little studio that could" - so I'm really grateful that you shone some light on this one.
This channel deserves MORE reputation,It's just so interesting how Spencer describes the detail of the game/console ColourShed needs more
My theory: Rockstar backed Team Bondi with LA Noire because they wanted to use it as base for Agent game. They did same with Red Dead Revolver and RDR. They were gonna acquire the studio and make a spiritual sequel to LA Noire. Now Agent game remains in limbo.
We need a review for The Warriors next - that game was not only great, but added a load of backstory to an incredible cult classic movie!
Thanks ColourShed for another awesome review
I rarely comment but I got to say. I've watched like a thirty of your reviews recently and this is amazing work! The knowledge about behind the scenes of these productions and much else seems amazingly put together! I love it
Man, your reviews are very good. When I get bored , I start watching you. Also high quality narration and cuts.
You deserve wayy more subs! Your quality of your videos are so good, can't wait to see your channel grow. Keep it up!
This game was ahead of its time like alomst every rockstargames game.
Great review & very in depth, you deserve more subs mate, your Gran turismo reviews are awesome as well, keep up good work 👍
LA Noire was way ahead of its time... i hope that one day they will finish the story with kelso or someone else as main character trying to finish the mission that Phelps started. it wont most likely never happen tho.
They will probably do what there gonna have to do with Red Dead Redemption 3 just use another time period!. There gonna have a hard time choosing a setting for RDR 3 if they wanna use the same people and Era! What they will probably do is not limit RDR 3 and The Next Noire Game (L.A. Noire or whatever the name will be) could just be the next step in criminals for RDR 3 which would be going back to the mobster days the name Red Dead Isn't anything to do with the wild west! It would be cool to see the same area but with cartels and DEA officers in the modern day! The modern day cowboys are bikers! What I'm getting at is I'd love to see a L.A. Noire sequel showing the gangs of LA back in the 1990s like San Andreas but through a cops perspective!.
I loved the game when it came out. It reminded me of a modern Dick Tracy which I loved from NES. I would love to see a sequel.
I loved la Noir, the game-play and scenery was great-usual Rockstar-and as always, I loved the story. This was the first game I ever played with a "skip checkpoint" feature which I loved and was grateful for. It was also the first-and only-multi-disc game I played. I got it when I turned 25 for my birthday with my XBOX 360.
One clarification at 29:00 . The outcome does actually change a bit depending upon what you do. If you find the knife at the crime scene the first time, the ending has the suspect killing his female accomplice and then fleeing and being either arrested or killed. If you miss the knife on the first time then the ending has you confronting him at the bar, and his female accomplice isn't killed. So technically at least for the case, your decision does affect the outcome.
This Channel should be more popular! Great Work!👏👌
Agree with you on that! !!!
The best game review that came out of Australia.
McNamara also developed The Getaway(2002) and The Getaway Black Monday(2004). Both really cinematic games for Ps2.
Yes!! Been waiting a minute for this, thank you.
17:22 "You're lying Morgan"
Me: * gamer poop flashbacks *
I've found Ray to be enjoyable in his own way
I think you've played and reviewed every game I played as a teenager.....
This is a great game, I just wish the ending was better. I imagine the ending being where you discover who’s behind it all, and Cole enlists the help of all of his partners(except Roy) to help him and jack bring them down. While in the sewers Cole and Roy get into a shoot out, and you get the potion to kill him yourself or try and bring him in. If you try to bring him in though, Roy tackles you and says “I knew you were too good a cop Cole!”, then jack kills him and say “I’m not you piece of shit!” then Cole jack along with Bekowski and rusty are shooting their way through the sewers and save Zelda. And they are cornered by the chief but they get the evidence, kill him and where Cole sacrifices himself to save everyone. Eventually most are arrested but we still get a hint of something brewing.
Mafia 2 and 3 next?
Mafia2 thats a great idea
Both are good, Mafia 3's had a lot of coverage of it by other UA-camrs, though. Mafia 2 has been sorta neglected in that regard.
@@fuzzydunlop7928 In my opinion based review, Mafia II on a console would (to any from the naked eye) would consider it a "lackluster, sandbox attempt at GTA" just with better graphics. However, on PC with the right mod(s) (hard to achieve good ones) is a different story. The mod Friends For Life for the PC version of Mafia II is the Mafia II somebody needs to see to estimate the overall potential of the title. Although a mod breaking bug happens between 13-17 minutes each time you played it, utterly halting your experience, I still find the wrap around moments as very fun. My brother installed a "real car name" mod and we drove a 2000 Hp GMC 1-ton truck into cars at 180+ and watched them fly around. Real fun due to the loose physics. In my opinion, if you can file mod give the utterly hopeless Mafia II a try. A good challenge is to estimate how long until a virus lumps your game into a mess. But if you achieve good enough estimations and get the right mods, then congrats you are now going to have fun with it.
Mafia III I'm still estimating as I've only recently began playing it.
Mafia 3 is garbage
Mafia 3 sucked miserably
They don't react. They just fall like they lost the will to live.. LOL!
2 things I would like to add - there are too many overarching narratives in the vanilla game. Aside from the Traffic Desk, all the other cases are connected to another one and it gets annoying if you want to play the cases as episodes because they are not self-contained cases.
Also, you mentioned how Phelps can use phones to call dispatch or whatever to obtain information on specific topics. These usually take a few seconds. That's a missed opportunity at doing some real detective work; in real life, at the time LA Noire is set, cross checking these information would take hours, even weeks in some cases. There were no desktop computers back then.
I can’t help but laugh at phelps scream especially since he does it when you get clotheslined in the patrol chapter so the actor who played phelps did a good job at giving us a laugh or two!
I actually enjoyed the game on my 360. Was surprised when the company went bankrupt, yet again I wasn’t so into game news at the time, maybe lots of people knew at the time what was happening
i was wondering when you'd review this game, i love this
Are you going to do the Max Payne Series?
I think that the next rockstar games review is going to be max payne 3
Little did he know
@@avengethegame2724 right
Been waiting for you to do this one - excellent job (as always)!!
I just started watching your game reviews and your the first I like with commentary awesome stuff keep it up!!!
the city, the atmosphere, the facial animations, the scenery and sightings. yea this game is def a classic. still play it till this day
As a history buff I really love the setting and atmosphere in this game but I I have never really managed to get into the detective aspects simply cuz I'm too impatient for it although I would love to play another game set in this timeperiod.
Mafia 2. The opposite side of the spectrum. Although I prefer this over Mafia due to its authenticity and attention to detail.
It's a game that better be played one mission a week, cuz it feels too repetitive if played back by back. But if you open it once a week, it feels more like a cops TV show from the childhood.
if you liked LA Noire and want maybe a little more understanding of how the story is designed and why it ended the way it did, you really aught to read James Ellroys LA Quartet; The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, and White Jazz.
I love LA Norie and even with all of its faults I would definitely put it on my list of favorite games. It feels like a game that Dashiell Hammet would have made and I think that was the point. Great video!
I was waiting for this video for along time..thank you
In the Steam version you can enable free cam like in GTA IV. It's much better for driving if you're used to IV.
Everyone wants GTA 6 and Bully 2, but damn what about something like NYC Noire or just LA Noire 2
What a great game that is. I really hope the next or current gen, depents how you view it, will see a Somewere Noire game.
I'd love to see N.Y. Noire! I've also said for a while I'd like to see other games in the GTA 5 reality but show other aspects of life like Liberty City Boys In Blue! Or Los Santos PD, Vice City Vice Squad something with a fresh prospective so you can feel the world being fleshed out more! That's the problem with sports games if they would just put a game out every 3-5 years and just update it people would go nuts for it!.
It's a good enough game, thank god they re-released it.
I just got a ps3 slim the other day from Craigslist and I had to go to my local game exchange and got like 15 games for only 40 bucks. There’s still so many I want to get. I say if you wanna get a cheap and affordable system to play old games and plus get big backlog of games for cheap you should do it now before it becomes harder to find games that haven’t been ported and stuff
What a shame a map of that size with that level of detail and fidelity was used only once on a game that whilst good, didn't set the world on fire. It's always baffled me why open world games don't reuse their maps considering their expense.
Could be higher ups and people when they hear a company reusing a map as lazy but many have edone it lazily but its very useful when you think about it as it can help the game come out faster
The greatest game of all flawed game masterpieces. It was still a smash hit and critically hailed. A sequel should be made but with clear caution and improvements over the original flaws of the sparse population of the city and the driving, fighting and shooting mechanics. But the presentation, the scenery, the mood, the dialogue, narrative and the period of city of Los Angeles in the 40s were top draw.
Don't worry people you can also go freeroam without having a mission (case) on so you can play the street crimes
From da Tomb$, Chuck Strangers is a goddamn genius
"I've been doing this job for 30 years, no one's ever laughed at my joke."
I break his streak every time he says that
Unpopular opinion I honestly like Roy Earle I always like characters from media that contrasts the other cast
Love your videos but it is very difficult to listen to your words and read the quotes you add at the same time. I would prefer you read the quotes if you put one up. It's honestly a compliment, as i want to be able to listen to you but I also care about the quotes you've selected. Either way, ill keep watching! Thanks for the content.
This review just made me get the game.
Really enjoy your videos man, always well thought-out and put into a good format. We should collaborate sometime on a project.
I picked up LA Noire on Xbox one for 11 bucks. Very good price for a great game
That's a fantastic price. Hope you complete it : )
L.A Noire is a love letter to the noir genre of the american film medium in the 40´s, mainly, and film history. Said that I believe or at least feel like this game is more as an interactive audiovisual experience, which it´s focus is this big reference to this time of history and film; because of that I don´t think the gameplay elements, where the game lacks quality, reduce the overall grandiosity of this work of art.
Your channel has become one of my favorites. I've been binge-ing for days now due to Corona. Thanks for your so well-thought-out reviews, and the fact that you don't spoil anything. I wanna watch your RDR2 one so badly, and I know I can without you spoiling it, but I still wanna wait 'til I finish it. Thanks again. :)
Another underdog channel lost to the hideous creature that is the UA-cam algorithm
Seriously people need to see your videos more they're so well detailed and entertaining!
One of my favourite games. Just replaying the remastered edition on the Xbox one X. Love it.
Number one on my list of games you cannot play when you are tired or not able to pay 100% attention.
A Deep game not for those out for action only.
Immersion for history buffs, add it and most assassins creeds, for teaching history in school.
Just wanted to tell you I love you. Thank you for what you do
This game came on 3 discs for xbox 360. 1/3 of the story came on each disc
One of the few delayed games that was worth the wait.
Loved this game (had the Greatest Hits version at first, then got The Complete Edition, which was really the way to go for me in 2013) , and yes, I did get a kick of running over Roy Earle:-).
Loved this game on my 360, one of my favs. didn't realize it was now on the Xbox 1. so have just ordered it.
Australia has some pretty good Dev teams. I especially respected Melbourne House as they were the guys behind the Transformers armada game on the PS2, which I simply loved. I'm pretty sure they've gone under now, but still they made a belter of a game nonetheless.
Love the NPC getting casually driven through at 1:20
Even though I love this game and I've done it on 3 different consoles
I never did understand what the story was about until you explained in depth
Now I finally get it
Also no matter what I did I could never 5 star every single case and I knew all the answers and where all the clues were and kept damage and crashes to a minimum
And yet I only got 4 stars on the later cases the vice and arson cases it was and still is so frustrating
One of my favourite games of all time
The order of the questions can be different, if you get certain clues in different orders the questions you ask will also change order
Just finished la noire remasterd! It was a very good game. I know I'm late but better late than never
Oh how his statement about RDR2 getting all the attention with GTA 5 has aged...
To me, L. A. Noire is one of Rockstar’s most unique games. I love the idea and feel of the game. It feels just like a 1940s gangster movie, and that’s the point. There’s a bit of scar face, the godfather, etc. And it shows. It’s really immersive and YOU PLAY AS A DETECTIVE, HELL YES. no longer do you murder hundreds of innocents, but bust criminals through carful investigation, I love it. Yes, I understand the other reasons it’s different but still, it’s like all the best 40s crime movies in one.
Rockstar games is the quinten tarintino of video games
With working conditions like that it's surprising that they didn't get on better with Rockstar
