I'm about to go through your retouching videos on KTE but wanted to see what you have on youtube, first. This is brilliant and most importantly, you could not have explained this better. Always to the point and the viewer knows the "why" behind every step. Thank you!
Is it even necessary to blur layer-Dark Noise in folder Light Grain? Won’t the blend if changes on the Light Grain folder prevent that dark noise layer from being seen. Only layers showing light and mid-tone will be seen.
Hi Viktor. Thanks you for this detailed series. I'll join the others in saying that it was very helpful. I have a follow up question. Is there any drawbacks / advantages between this method and the one you present in the recent kelbyone class? Thks.
Both of these grain videos are really interesting. I've seen several other vids about generating "film grain" and this is the most comprehensive one I've seen. When I do this though, I'm amazed at how huge my file size grows! My file which starts around 1.5 MB grows to about 2.25 GB! From what I can see, yours doesn't get so out of control. Any ideas why? Thanks!
Hey, glad you enjoyed them! When you enlarge the grain layers they are still retained in the Photoshop file full size, so the best you can do is apply a crop that deletes all the parts of the layers that are outside of the bounds of your image. This will drastically reduce the file size.
Finally someone who explains clearly how film grain works and how to correctly simulate it in PS. Thank you!!!
Woah, this is amazing. Thank you!

Fantastic tutorial!
Wow. Please do more videos. They're really good.
GENIUS ! Thank you, Viktor!
Fantastic! I finally understand how to even-out the grain effect over HT, MT & LT.

Thanks. This one is more detailed than the one I explained in a recent KelbyOne class. However, both are viable methods.
