Honestly might be the best voice acting I’ve heard. There’s always some kind of hidden sadness or anger in whatever she’s saying. It’s amazing.
Not to cause offence but I think if it didn't show the image and the voice I wouldn't really like as much. The drawing just goes so well with the voice.

She’s an excellent villain, you gotta admit it.
She also good example of "strong woman character". Not invincible saint Mary Sue, but cunning, ruthless fighter and indomitable person who stands against enemies much bigger, stronger (at least physically) and higher in hierarchy than she is. She also can be wrong (and not in just "now i redeemed and good" part). And she beat Adora's superpowered ass several times.
Very hard not to root for Catra, honestly. Its catasctrofically not enough of screen time when Adora and Catra at one side, i want season 6 omggg >_

You ever just think about that if Catra had grown up in a healthy environment, her naturally loving and teasing nature that we see more of in season 5 would have shown through since she isn't riddled with trauma and abuse that caused her to close off the vulnerable parts of herself to keep herself safe. 😭 It breaks my heart, truly.

I personally enjoy both but i like S5 nicer-ish catra- she realises her problems and wants to get better, but she still retains her attitute and her constant teasing traits, while being less violent and toxic at the same time

Yes. It feels like by the end of Season 3 she was the most suicidal (and even attempted to end her life, mmm end everything per se, pulling that lever) and Season 4 is when you survive your attempt and then you just become obsessed with something. I became obsessed with righting my mistakes when I tried, but that's because I had help. Catra didn't have it (not in the way she needed back then, anyways), so she succumbed to the toxicity once again. Even more, actually. She felt like she didn't have anything to lose (and she really didn't, besides, well, her life). Then Glimmer comes, Catra asks her to "end it". Catra's still acting suicidal, she wants to die, because if you stay in the same place and don't get any help the death desire won't go away.
Catra sacrifices herself to save Glimmer. We see how similar they are and how they somehow relate to one another, and maybe, even if consciously Catra didn't think Adora would come back for her, Catra's subconscious knew that by saving Glimmer (who had made similar mistakes and was in a pretty similar situation with her friends, as they talked) she was also saving herself. So it's not just Catra saving Gllimer and then Adora saving Catra. Catra is saving herself too. After that, it's hard, but she finally accepts that she needs help. Catra survived once again, and this time, when she survives, she's surrounded my caring, by love. People she thought that hated her, are worrying about her, are trying to make her feel accepted. And now she's obsessed with changing. She's changing places, she's changing herself, because she wants too, because she needs to. I think this ambiguity between "want" and "need" is also perfectly shown in Adora's character, what she feels she needs to do vs. what she wants to do. Anyway, Catra passed through so much, as did everyone else in the show. They deserve a happy ending.

Interesting tho, how Catra took the 1st step on her own 2 change, but it wasn’t until Catra was back in Adora’s life that Adora made changes 2 her own behaviour - listening more, seeing things from someone else’s perspective, generally being more emotionally supportive & realising that selfishness has its place just as selflessness does.

What I find interesting is that in seasons 1 and 2 her quips are mostly comebacks, whereas season 3 and 4 she’s the one picking the fights/starting things. It’s nice to see she has a gentler personality in season 5

She is just a scared teenager acting out with too much power in a WAR.

Catra is still a victim you can be both toxic and a victim. That’s why it’s called the cycle of abuse and it doesn’t absolve her from what she’s done people around her but it does make it understandable and it allows people to sympathize which is valid. I can never fully hit her for her behavior because I saw how much she was hurting. People are perfect their complex. She’s one of the most realistic characters within the show and it can seem like she’s worse than she is by comparison. She’s in no ways perfect but I saw her for the mess she was and chose to support and love her because I can relate. And the other people she’s hurt don’t have to forgive her she is absolved from redemption and even love. She was raised being mentally and physically abused. Degraded and put against her best friend.
That shaped you. Because of it she pushed away the people who wanted to show her genuine care. Don’t get me wrong there were moments where I was so pissed at her especially with Scorpia but like I said she’s just very easy to sympathize with for me and it doesn’t help that she’s a badass. If you can pick up on the smallest details so call someone pathetic exactly the way she would be referred to. She would even try and trust shadoweaver because even though she’s grunt to hate her she still wants some type of validation from her because that was her mother figure after all and she never did anything to be this woman’s punching bag. This stuff happens in real life and everyone’s journey and learning to cope and to develop healthy relationship and social habits is different.

It’s really unsettling to see Catra’s mean moments (AKA Catra’s moments of perpetuating the abuse her entire character exists to condemn) compiled the same way her funny moments or moments with Adora would, let alone used to VINDICATE her actions. People are talking about how Catra’s abuse was so terrible (which it was) and how I much they relate to her, without realizing how people relate to the characters she abuses in turn. It becomes clear to see how toxic Catradora is when you genderbend one of its members. Abuse should NOT be romanticized, and if you want to use abuse to vindicate Catra’s character, you need to do the same to the people she’s hurt. Someone’s actions being understandable does not erase the effect they have on the people around them. Adora left the Horde and begged for Catra to join her, only for the latter to turn it into a guilt trip and blame Adora for the suffering her OWN actions caused.
I’ve had people in my life who have turned my words against me, even when I tried to help them, and I’m learning to balance self-care with my (perceived) obligation to the world. It was horrifying to see Catra’s actions dismissed so quickly in the show, and it hurt twice as bad to watch the fandom praise She-ra for it’s inclusivity when it blatantly minimized the experiences of abuse victims inside the show and out.
I am guilty of holding Catradora to different standards than I do heterosexual relationships, but I am working on that, because true equality can only be achieved when we as a society are as willing to call out toxic behaviors in LGBTQIA+ relationships as we are straight ones, while still remaining respectful of the discrimination members of the community are put through.
I’m not attacking anyone, including the person who made this video, I just want to bring awareness to the effect it had on other people, and open a gateway to respectful and open discussion about She-Ra, negative and positive aspects alike.

Honestly, my opinions on She-ra kind of oscillate between “this show sucks” and “this show’s brilliant,” and The Lunarium’s (wonderful) video was really useful, and helped inform my opinion on the show.
I stand by what I said about the show having writing issues, but while they prevented me from being as invested in the show as I could’ve been, I still appreciate the concepts and emotions behind it.
So, thank you, for reminding me that the while the show isn’t perfect, it means a damn lot to some people, and recognizing that doesn’t necessarily detract from those who were hurt by She-ra’s narrative.

She was always mean, I don’t get it. Season 4 however, was Catra at her absolute worst.
I literally can't get how people liked her pre season five... in season five, she started to grow and become a better person, but during literally every moment before-hand she was such a toxic, mean, and needlessly cruel character. Yes, she grew up in an abusive household, and yes, that does make sense of SOME of her actions. However, growing up in a toxic environment absolutely does NOT excuse the way she continued to treat others, especially Scorpia and Entrapta, who had welcomed her immediately with open arms as their friend and whom she treated like trash, and it DEFINITELY does not excuse almost wiping the world from existence because of some petty vengeance quest against Adora. I can't like her, she did too much damage, and when people excuse her behavior with "but she's so cute/hot 🥺" it enables a cycle of abuse. Being hot NEVER excuses behavior like hers, and it is genuinely harmful to think that it does. Realizing her mistakes and apologizing, and helping out the good guys WAS A STEP in the right direction, but ultimately she is not a good person.
Edit: I also can't bring myself to ship Catra and Adora - their relationship feels built on guilt and anger. My go-to ships from the show are definitely Scorpia and Perfuma, as well as Spinerella x Netossa and Bow's dads. (I honestly like even Glimmer x Adora more than Catadora.) They are much, much healthier relationships, and both of the people in them are genuinely good people who both have goof things to offer to the other.
When ppl say that they forgave Catra for being hot, it s a joke lmao. Apart from that, everyone can have their opinion, personally I think she always was a good person deep down, just very messed up. And the portal thing and everything after was more or less of a suicide attempt, we already knew she" already lost everything". Either way it definetly wasn t a rational desicion, she was just seing red at that moment.

I liked Catra from the beginning because I always like fictional characters like her. I like snarky fictional people who are carrying a lot of rage and grief and pain and actually have a lot of love to give when they're given the chance. I find them compelling, and I find it rewarding when the narrative takes them to a place where they can give that love a little more freely. And yes, I think she's hot. I make a _lot_ of jokes about how incurable my crush on her is. (The fight between her and Glimmer in "Pulse" is one of my favorite scenes -- I love watching her calculated, defensive, acrobatic fighting style, and I think the lighting from the fires Glimmer inadvertently started started makes them both look _stunning.)_ All this, _and_ I have moments where I just can't root for her because what she's doing is too painful or close to home.
If you don't like characters like Catra, that's fine, you don't have to, but it doesn't mean that I and others like me can't distinguish her good behavior from her bad behavior, and it certainly doesn't mean that we're hand-waving away the real-world analogues of her bad behavior just because she's hot. Fiction very often holds up a mirror to reality, and She-Ra is no exception, but it's not actually real, and audiences are aware of where those lines are drawn far more often than online fandom tends to give them credit for. It's not genuinely harmful to think that a hot, mean, fictional girl being allowed to descend to some really low depths and then come out the other side a more healed person is good storytelling. It's not genuinely harmful to understand those depths and still like her while she's in them.

If your character is flawed enough to feel like a real person that people can both like and dislike then you’re doing something right.
Edit: Same goes with Glimmer too I seen people straight up don't like her or just really really hate her, yeah she made mistakes but she slowly starts to learned from them. We need more protagonists like Glimmer who are allowed to have flaws and made mistakes but learn to be better and work on their flaws. I think the reason why we have so many bland good girls/boys characters and why we like villains so much (besides them having pretty privilege) because they're the protagonist they have to be good and have no flaws in order for us to like them. Look main characters especially good guy characters can still be likeable and relatable and still have flaws they don't have to be a Mary sue in order for us as the audience to like them. Buuuut there also another problem I noticed with the main protagonist is that there no clear answer on what the audience wants, if the main character is a Mary sue we don't like them but if the main character actually start showing flaws and make mistakes we still don't like them. Best example: is Marinette from miraculous ladybug aside from her being a simp/stalker people don't like Marinette because she a mary sue and I understand that. But people don't like Glimmer because despite her actually having flaws and allowing to made mistakes people instantly starts hating her for it. I swear once a character starts to made a mistake or hell a simple mistake people would start getting on the hate train and making them seem like they're the bad guy despite the fact they're written to be a flaw character even they're on the good side, good people makes mistake too guys nobody perfect.

Did anyone else notice hos Catra and Cassandra ( from Rapunzel) are the same person? They both have a "mother figure" that abused them ( Shadow Weaver, Gothel( red outfits, black hair)), who turned them down for blond magical princes ( Andora, Rapunzel) which made them feel second-best. First, they were best friends with that "magical princes", that helped them fight with childhood "demons". Then they both snuck out with their best friend and they both suffered worse consequences than their friends. And as time goes, they realized that they were turned down for their best friend long enough and go along with someone eviler than them ( Hordak, Zhan Tiri). But eventually, they got back on the good side, and together with their friends fight the evil.
They have also same personalities. The I-hate-you-all-and-I-will-kill-you-all. Live to fight, and both were commanding the army ( Force Captain, and Captain of the Guard for some time). Sarcasm. Dark humor. And name calling.
And they even look alike. Dark eyes, black hair.

Catra is my favorite character. This is why.
Catra seriously didn’t deserve to end up with Adora. Not saying she wasn’t a compelling villain or an interesting character but she wasn’t stable enough to be a romantic relationship. Just ending up with Adora isn’t going to make her issues or attitude go away. She’s also hurt Adora a lot despite being the closest to her when Adora never did anything to her.
It's not really true that Adora never did anything to her, though. It's pretty clear that while they were growing up, Adora frequently sided with Shadow Weaver over Catra. It's not her _fault,_ in the same way that Catra having the patterns of behavior that she does is not _her_ fault, but the hurt is mutual. Their relationship isn't flawed because Catra is bad and Adora is good -- it's flawed because Shadow Weaver has made them both believe exactly that, and that has completely twisted how they are capable of relating to each other. The show's development of their relationship is all about them learning to stop relating to each other through those externally-imposed lenses.

I kinda wish the show explore her issues more seriously. It would’ve made her redemption arc better. Ole girl has some SERIOUS issues. 😂 She deserves a better redemption arc.
Yeah supposedy characters like Catra or written similarly to Catra need bigger arcs to be fully satisfying.
