Top 5 Mistakes Toronto has made in Matthews Era
    1. Letting Hyman go
    2. Letting McCann go in the expansion draft
    3. Poor return in the Kadri trade
    4. Trading Mason Marchment for Dennis Malgin
    5. Trading for Nick Foligno
You can argue a few others (including signing guys to the money they have and constructing a roster the way they have) but these mistakes stand out for me

If you live in a heritage home, yes you aren’t allowed to do any renovations / alterations to the interior and exterior without permission from the city. It’s due to the city wanting to preserve that specific home due to historic value

I remember commenting on UA-cam that Edmonton was so lucky to be getting Hyman. He may never have scored this many goals, but I thought he was the Leafs most valuable player. He was the only player who could forecheck and actually hang on to the puck. He made it possible for Marner and Matthews to do their thing. The Leafs still haven’t found a guy with his skills (although Marner & Matthews managed to flourish without him). Kudos to Hyman for helping to get Edmonton to the finals! It did, however, seem that the team vibe was poor under his watch. I'd question his knowledge of that - alongside of any actions he took to rectify the situation. Why did everyone and their dog want out of Calgary? Lindholm, Hanifin, Chucky, Bennett (and so on). How did they go from a potential contender to a tire fire? Right, Hyman had a shooter on his line that took all of the best looks in the O zone. Where as 97 can do both, set up players and put it home himself. Hyman had 39 goals last year & 9 goals taken back, Same year McDavid had 64 goals with 89 apples. So obviously he is better in EDM because he is not just a back ground character @ the Matthews show. He is part of the most dominant line in hockey. But yeah, it must all be 97. Maybe Hyman is just a perfect lineman for 97, similar to 29 maybe? Or maybe it's that Matthews actually takes away from players and there opportunities because he is ALWAYS shoot first. He doesn't think beyond his chances to score.
Matthews is a fantastic goal scorer, probably the best in the league. But he is not a complete player yet, he may never be.
Where as 97 has progressed into a fantastic back checker and he is quickly becoming the most dominant all around player.

He definitely benefits playing with Playmakers. Nuge McDavid Draisaitl can all score but they all think pass first. Hyman thinks go to the net. Mathews isn't a playmaker he's a sniper. Shoot first guy. Like Stamkos, Ovechkin the guys have never had a ton of apples or been know for setting up goals of they don't have the shot. That being said, for years oilers were trying to find a winger who could play with McDavid. Only ones that ever worked were Nuge and Putting Draisaitl on the wing because there needs to be a high hockey IQ. And Hyman doesn't get enough credit for how smart he is and how well he reads the play. Yes he's a dog with a bone and has a great work ethic, and that overshadows just how well he reads what his linemates are going to do or set up. He never would've excelled in TO the way he has in Edmonton. But he could've given the right pieces.

They'll all be back the next season and the next season, getting overpaid. And fans continue to be enthralled by having all these talented young players. They constantly say you can't trade any of them because you can't replace their talent. Or they say, with the ultimate cope, the Leafs are lucky to be one of the 16 teams that makes the playoffs and they're close because they barely lost a Game 7. It's pathetic.
And fans keep selling out the building and buying up merch, so MLSE is comfortable just putting out the same product. There's pressure mounting on them to have the team win.
