I would love for the Best of the Best to get that Cobra Kai treatment. That would be amazing. I feel like a lot of people in my generation don’t know how good the Best of the Best movies were
NO! Cobra Kai is like a parody sitcom, I don’t want to see hipster kids in best of the best, I want to see real talented martial artists from all around the world
Simon recently said at the end of the Viking Samurai podcast that Phillip is working on a new BOTB movie, the script's written and there's two studios ready to produce the project
Sorry for this but I must corevt you. Best of The Best still is a good movie.Still holds up today story wise but fight scenes still one of the best in movies till this day
Great interview. So nice seeing the two brothers together. It was good they showed the Bay Area love. Love that the Rhee brothers got love for the Filipinos. Also excited for the Best of the Best reboot/sequel
Awesome guys. Who doesn't love these guys. That scene in Showdown in Little Tokyo I think it's called where Simon cuts his pinky off was crazy. I was like wow, just awesome Both brothers are awesome actors, and they're even better when working together. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
wow! loved the interview. Best of the Best is a classic. Not just a martial arts movie. It's a classic period! and the story of Phillip telling Simon he loved him was Awesome! I love the behind-the-scenes stories. You can see the Love they have for each other. And the fact that they were really going at it in that movie speaks volumes on their Passion to the Martial Arts and Dedication to get it done. Thank You for making a Classic! and I heard Phillip say he missed Chris when they were watching the fight. So sad when he passed. Chris was always in the shadow of Sean but Chris was great too. RIP Chris.
I took Iiado for a brief period to learn a little about swordsmanship. Tenshin ryu hyoho battojutsu has a philosophy I really honor. They train to injure or maim their aponent with their sword instead of taking ones life. Reminds me of the end scene of this film, very difficult to find care, meaning and real purpose in martial arts these days. If you love it, it's not just a way of life but part of your life. Great video, these two are really blessed to have genuine love for each other...another thing the world is missing.
I'm happy that I was born in this time when there were still real martial arts movies that also had a morality and friendship with which you could identify. That was also the background why I started with martial arts. One of the best and down-to-earth martial artists. Osu!
Fell in love with the martial arts when I was five started training in Taekwondo these two guys were my freaking Heroes growing up along with Chuck Norris and Jason David Frank my absolute inspiration to be the best of the best🥋🐉🥋🐉🥋
I know those two brothers, we grow up together, Philip and I was a very close friend, he went Hoover high school, I used to go at there house in the avenue. He’s brother Simon was a shoe salesman of flag brothers. Philip even know how to speak Tagalog, we hung out for long time, till he went to Los Angeles. When he left he gave me a blazer that I wore for a long time. Also I didn’t know they were successful to there martial arts. After he left San Francisco, I never again saw the brothers, this was in 70’s garage parties.
Yup even the soundtrack was great in Best of the best.Still have songs from the movie on my playlists till this day. I consider myself a stoic man but Last fight in BoTB,still one of the best martial artst scenes in movies till this day,and Rika Usami doing kata makes me cry coz how they show the beauty of TWD,Hapkido and Karate
Legend doesn't mean Old. It means your art lasts throughout all time. I am totally okay with saying that last fight in The Best of the Best is probably one of the greatest... in human history. Yes there's been better, but I don't think any fight fan forgot this fight. And I had NO FREAKING CLUE they were brothers until now. That fight and movie... they crafted those characters so freaking hard, I never thought about it. No one there's so much incredible genuine love at the end! :D But.. that low spinning hook kick to the back of the head........ I see it everytime I close my eyes for too long. Great interview and thank you guys for pulling this together. This really meant a lot to me. I think I rented this on a whim really expecting the least and not really needing much.... and was blown away by one of the best tournament movies I've seen. Thanks again. :)
Additional to best martial arts exibition in Best of the best there is also a great dramatic emotional element , i cried in the end scene when medals were passed,it was amazing ❤️
The final fight between them at the end was an iconic 80s fight scene. It ranks right up there with Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez in "Wheels on Meals", Van Damme vs Bolo in "Bloodsport" and "Jet Li vs Billy Chow in "Fist of Legend".
These guys are Legends! I always wanted to see Philip Rhee in more films. The last film I saw of his was UnderDog Kids. I loved Best of the Best 1, 2 and 3 but 4 was slightly weaker of the Quadrilogy! I can't wait for Best of the Best 5!
I remember that last scene in Best of the Best , I thought Tommy was gonna kill Dae Han especially considering what happened with the character’s brother . So when he didn’t and Dae Han apologized, not a dry eye in the room!! True martial arts!
The story about James Earl Jones kind of got to me. During covid a co-worker got covid and was in quarantine, her mother was dying and even her family wouldn`t visit her. This thought came to me. "If the fear of a disease causes me to lose my compassion, then my life is no longer worth living. I went, took care of her, held her, and let her cry on my shoulder. My point (and I think Philips too) is .... "Never let fear steel your humanity"
Listen to Phillips comparison of American mentality in films vs. Asian films revealed the great integrity a true master of one’s self is. Just because you can kick ass or kill doesn’t mean it’s what must be. Maintain your humanity and see it always in others.
Why the hell is The Best of the Best not readily available on Region 1 Blu-Ray? It makes no sense that you just can't find this movie on Blu-Ray if you live in North America.
I’m so happy to say that I am in the Jun Chong system! ❤ for the past 3 years! I’m also a actor I hope I get the opportunity 2 work with you guys one day! Rhee brothers are legends! #totalmartialarts my master, and I always “the best of the best movies. No Tommy No! Dammit Tommy No!
Legend means that you have lived a life that spans across time with other generations behind you that heard or saw your story through books and movies or tales that you had left a mark in the world.
Nice upload guys I accidentally deleted a comment I hope u can still c the comment as I mentioned my favourite martial arts films ect also Guyver: dark hero was pretty gd aswell God bless y’all
Nah, he would've remembered if it was AIDS, I think he meant the Ebola virus scare that caused panic in 1989 around the same time their movie was released. Some monkeys that were imported to the U.S. tested positive for the Ebola virus which causes blood hemorrhages that bleed out of the mouth, eyes, nose and ears, while they were quarantined by customs. It caused a panic in the medical community and was the basis for the script of the Dustin Hoffman movie "Outbreak".
As a martial artist who has taken the Korean styles with Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido the Rhee brothers are icons to me. I was 13 when I saw the first Best of the Best and that film is what made me start taking Tae Kwon Do. Before that I was into the Japanese and Okinawan arts, Aikido and Shotokan, which are great styles, but I learned them from white American instructors. When I began taking TKD, I learned from Master James Suhnwan Chung, who not only taught his students martial combat, but also all mental, spiritual and moral aspects and about Korean culture. When I got my 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and my 1st degree in Hapkido the black bt classes were all taught in Korean, so I had to learn the language as well. Master Chung would often have his black belt students and junior instructors to his home for dinner about twice a month. His wife made the best Kimchi. Anyhow, great video, if I ever .et Simon and Phillip I would be so starstruck!
They have THE best TKD ever caught on screen...Crisp and flawless with great power
I would love for the Best of the Best to get that Cobra Kai treatment. That would be amazing. I feel like a lot of people in my generation don’t know how good the Best of the Best movies were
NO! Cobra Kai is like a parody sitcom, I don’t want to see hipster kids in best of the best, I want to see real talented martial artists from all around the world
Only the first 2 Best Of The Best were good. They did to many. And they got worse and worse.
Only if they get the guy that did the music in best of the best 2
Extremely underrated..
Simon recently said at the end of the Viking Samurai podcast that Phillip is working on a new BOTB movie, the script's written and there's two studios ready to produce the project
These grandmasters are incredible humans and my martial heroes❤️🙏
Thank you so much for this interview Jeremy🙏
I hope to meet you one day sir.
I hope the Rhee brothers come back to doing more movies again. Such legends! Can't wait for Best of the Best 5!

Definitely legends! Best of the best was a great movie!
Sorry for this but I must corevt you.
Best of The Best still is a good movie.Still holds up today story wise but fight scenes still one of the best in movies till this day
Love this interview, literally caught my eye scrolling my feed and seeing both Master Rhee's.
Great interview. So nice seeing the two brothers together. It was good they showed the Bay Area love. Love that the Rhee brothers got love for the Filipinos. Also excited for the Best of the Best reboot/sequel
No reboot only sequel please
Absolutely beautiful episode.

10:21 I bet he got into the movies only to have his brothers afro cut for good 🤣🤣🤣
These two are the great martial artists Masters but so humble and articulate.
Just a shame they weren’t given the credit they were due.
I Have Black belts in Tang soo do, Hapkido and Judo..Love the Rhee brothers
The Best of the Best films were a big part of what motivated me to eventually become a Taekwondo instructor. I owe the Rhee brothers for that.
❤ I am Still Standing. 🇿🇦👑 Sharon (Sofia) Coetzee.
I remember that last scene in Best of the Best , I thought Tommy was gonna kill Dae Han especially considering what happened with the character’s brother . So when he didn’t and Dae Han apologized, not a dry eye in the room!! True martial arts!

My guess is, the disease Phillip was referring to was probably the Ebola virus scare during the time their movie was released back in 1989.
Simon Rhee has the prettiest check-back kick ever
I must say "Best of the Best" is still the best.
Listen to Phillips comparison of American mentality in films vs. Asian films revealed the great integrity a true master of one’s self is.
Just because you can kick ass or kill doesn’t mean it’s what must be. Maintain your humanity and see it always in others.
They should make a remake of best of the best where Philip rhee coaching the American team
Absolute legends, the reason I started taekwondo at 7 years old

Mind body and soul Trinity of Taekwondo

Nice upload guys I accidentally deleted a comment I hope u can still c the comment as I mentioned my favourite martial arts films ect also Guyver: dark hero was pretty gd aswell God bless y’all

These guys don't age wow.
Taekwondo makes movie great
Taekwondo itf
Phillip rhee lost his american accent
HOLLYWOOD SHIT..............
why keep saying OSS thats Japanaesse and offensive to Koreans.
The disease he's talking about is AIDS
Nah, he would've remembered if it was AIDS, I think he meant the Ebola virus scare that caused panic in 1989 around the same time their movie was released.
