We honestly need more Critical Clash 1 covers. Critical Clash 2 is great but I personally love the serious tone and intensity of 1 a lot more.
hi guys. yes you're right! i've played through a lot of jrpg's for a european and there are many masterpieces of music in these games. and although i tend to prefer the quieter songs, i have to say that critical clash 1 is perhaps the best i've ever heard in a game. i hope they still play it live in an orchestra.
This is an amazing cover. That violin in Critical Clash 1 is spot on!
Every single time I listened to Decisive Battle I from the first game, I found myself wishing I were listening to Decisive Battle II. But with Critical Clash I & II, I don’t prefer one over the other. One is a tense and dire overture with a sense of power and bravery behind it and the other is a driving, rocking piece with a melancholy melody to provide drama. They both do such a good job of setting their respective tones, and both are fun to listen to, follow, and break down. No need to compare apples to oranges - they’re both exceptional. Nishiki outdid himself with Octopath Traveler II.
That's because in OT1, the boss themes are linear, first chapter bosses use DB1, middle chapter bosses use DB2. However, in OT2, CC1 and CC2 are interchangeably used in all chapters except the last. One example is temenos, who uses CC2 on his first chapter boss.
Therefore, instead of making it so one theme has to lead into the other, they made it so each theme evokes a certain emotion, and then put the tracks wherever they'd feel best.

I went into Octopath 2 with the ulterior motive of finding the next “They Who Govern With Reason,” and I was surprised how early it came.
I love Critical Clash 1 a lot more than 2. Both are great but the thrill and serious tone of 1 pushes a do or die moment more than 2.

I went with the fox at the beginning. Phew...the owl didn't turn out near as nasty looking. Although that's pretty much a great example of JRPG villain logic. It's like saying... "Oh, you picked soup instead of salad? Indisputable proof that this world is corrupt and everyone deserves to die!" (Get attacked by a giant unholy salad.)
