- In macOS Sonoma, Apple introduced “Reactions” - a collection of animations featuring balloons, fireworks, rain, hearts, thumbs up, and more that trigger with hand gestures. Sounds fun? Maybe NOT if you’re live streaming, recording video or doing Zoom presentations. It can EVEN cause problems when appearing as a guest on a stream or Zoom interview! In this tutorial we will show you what they are, how to use them, AND how to disable Reactions in Sonoma to avoid crashes!

Oh my goodness!!! You are a life saver. I just finished my 4th church broadcast Zoom webinar to hundreds of people and I got all kinds of unwanted thumbs up, thumbs down, balloons, etc. in all 4 meetings. I tried disabling every conceivable setting in my Zoom account to no avail. Now, I have disabled the "Mac" Zoom reaction setting, so I will find out in tomorrow's broadcast if I can stop sweating cannonballs.

Thanks for covering this. I disabled them. They’re truly a nightmare-waiting-to-happen. They crash Ecamm, Zoom, FaceTime and livestreams and they happen when you least want them.

You just saved my confidence in OBS. Today I was doing a professional job and this issue broke a stream I was working on three times. Apple should be asking permission to access apps for that sort of augmentation. This cost viewers a quality experience. Thank you for explaining.

Okay, not the worst moment ever but... I'm filming a craft tutorial for my youtube channel and suddenly the thumbs down icon appears on the screen since my thumb was rotated as I was using my scissors. Well, not a great thing to have pop up in a youtube tutorial. Sigh.

Wow, in every app that can use the camera...that's not helpful!
Also, pretty major fail only using color (not to mention the two colors that are most common for color blindness) as the indicator. 🤦♀️

100% Apple should not have made these enabled by default. extremely invasive, disruptive, and unwanted. these act like a virus
It would have been less of an issue if it had been opt in instead of opt out.
