Coming back to this review after a COVID return screening. One of the most memorable (and there were many) episodes you guys had. Still love the enthusiasm, insight, and fun you all put into this show. Cheers from 2020!
I would be afraid to pull the Star Wars card out in normal conversation, especially if they hadn't seen the movie, but I totally agree with Jeff. I was never super invested in The Avengers, but it totally transcends that. One of the only movies I was weeping during the action scenes...loved it so much. The most cheering I've ever heard during a movie.
This movie really just blew me away. I came in, all cynical and skeptical of all the hype, and came out grinning and gushing about a movie I was ready to pick apart. I rarely re-watch movies at all but I went to watch the Avengers twice already and I'm not even a big Marvel/comic book fan. The action sequences, party banter and comedic timing were so well done and the final battle in NYC itself was worth my money.
This review completely changes my mind about seeing this movie, I was probably going to see this but I personally thought this looked pretty bad just because of how I felt about the Thor, Hulk and Captain America movies but Jeff had such passion that I feel really excited as well. Thank you for posting this! Im going to go watch just for Jeff!
Dang, bad idea to see this review whaen i can't go to the movies for at least 2 weeks more because of school work. But to see all of you guys so excited about it I'm definitely going to watch it. Just one question though, which do you think would be better, the normal version or the 3d?
I am going to have to go see this movie again. As a big Joss Whedon fan, and someone who has seen all the origin films, I wasn't really sold on it. Just didn't wow me, but this review makes me want to see it again.
He stablished that he "can't" offer critique anymore because of his starting career in movies. But I think he gave way more contribution this time than in other recent movie reviews on TRS.
This movie is awesome (agree with almost everything said here) but on a visceral level, Warren Ellis' Thunderbolts run is superior. In fact, The Avengers borrows elements from the Caged Angels graphic novel. I would absolutely love it if Warren Ellis gets to write a Dark Avengers movie and to have a super heroes/villains ensemble match up in The Avengers 3 (probably a pipe dream though)
From what I have found out. The ONLY reason Edward Norton wasn't picked as the hulk was because he was said to be hard to work with. But In all honesty and with all due respect to your opinion. I believe Mark Rufallo fit just right in and I don't think I could imagine Edward could have done as good in certain parts. Just my opinion though.
I thought the whole movie was amazing! But the score didn't stand out to me, I wont be rushing out for the OST anytime soon, but the BluRay's a day one purchase.
I think the 2003's Hulk was the best Hulk. Plus the one in the 2008 for "The Incredible Hulk" movie was good, but I didn't like how most times he was able to get dominated. 2003's Hulk wasn't always emo, it could jump to incredible bounds, it was able to get angry without control and even expand in rage. I found it a bit disappointing that they ALREADY got to the part of the story where Hulk was already created, and already controlled by the main character.
i saw this movie last friday and i loved it so much only thing that i thought was weird/bad was the hulk going from tottaly out of control to have full control over his powers
Holy shit 26 thousand views on a TRS video? On UA-cam? Woah... Just went back and watched this review because it was a dope review, but holy shit... I hope some of these guys subscribe, as this is an amazing channel.
Zero willpower to wait to watch this review after seeing the movie. I had to watch it now, but seeing the midnight premier tonight! This made me even more excited!!!
It happend when he was rescuing people in the builidng from the 3 aliens. When the alien's bomb went off and it sent Cap out the window right as it went off he jumped and curled up behind his shield.
Surely it would be just as good, or at least potentially as good, if DC could get their act together and get a Justice League Of America movie going. Doing it the way Marvel have by having each of the main heroes have their own movie and then coming together in the JLOA film? I mean, they've already got Batman, Superman and the Green Lantern, so why not the rest of them? I think it would, or could, be just as satisfying as The Avengers.
I loved the film so much to me its right up there with the original Star Wars trilogy. My 4th favorite film of all time.Definitely the greatest movie experience I have ever had in the theatre.
Hulk ripped Wolverine apart and threw his body a few miles apart. 'Nuff said. (Remember that the joints between wolverine are not made of adamantium, although of course his body will heal)
In a lot of these Avengers movie reviews, I see numerous comments from folks proclaiming that the Nolan Batman films are superior to this one. To them, I ask you this; what is it about the Batman movies that make them "superior." I barely found anything in them entertaining. Bale's acting was lackluster, Bane's portrayal in Rises was terrible and the only successful villain in the series was Heath Ledger's Joker. Avengers however, had so many great performances behind it. RDJ, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson and even Mark Ruffalo did wonderfully. Avengers also had a great villain, exciting action scenes, intense battles and several memorable moments for fans. To quote the Blockbuster Buster, ERod. The Avengers spanked Batman at the boxoffice
To me it's a bit silly to compare the two franchises, because i think both are great, but they are so different in what they're trying to accomplish. Avengers is the perfectly pulled of fantasy. It is extremely entertaining and does all the characters justice. Batman, for me, especially Dark Knight, has a lot more emotional depth. The Joker is genuinely scary; Two Face is genuinely tragic. What Bruce Wayne goes through; what Commissioner Gordon goes through. These are things i find really engaging. Sure, Chris Bale is not the most appealing Batman there have been, but i disagree about Bane. He was a great villain, even though i'd say Rises had a lot of other flaws.
Hes just moderating the conversation cause he's directing a feature film in the near future and doesnt wanna piss off anyone in the movie industry by offering his opinions.
I THINK U NEED TO SEE THE OTHER MOVIES. CUS FOR E.G. HOW THOR WAS INTRODUCED. U WOULD NEED TO KNOW THE BACK STORY. CUS THOR JUST APPEARED AND GRABBED LOKI. JOSH NEEDS TO EXPLAIN HOW HE GOT TO EARTH WITHOUT THE BIFROST. EVEN THOUGH LOKI HINTED TO IT
There's quite a few comic book series that was better than The Avengers movie, but Avengers was best comic book/ graphic novel movie since Watchmen. Better than XMen First Class and The Dark Knight
nah Marvel films in the new continuity have been consistent quality for the past 5 years. Maybe they were not grim and gritty like the Dark Knight but they most certainly have not sucked.
Transformers doesn't even show you what's going on. It's all blurry, these scenes are way more creative, plus there is more at stake so therefore you care more about the characters and the fate of the world, as opposed to not caring at all about Transformers characters. As for the effects, I don't think we saw the same movie.
So grey shirt your telling me that as a comic book reader you've never read a comic better the this movie? So if this movie was in comic form it would be one of the best avengers comic ever? I don't think so
4 years later and this is still my favourite review on UA-cam. Jeff's enthusiasm and passion brings so much.

One of my fav reviews they did. A wonderful moment of joy at seeing it come to life
Jeff's ultra geek out moment is PRICELESS, @ 14:00 ! lol What an amazing movie! saw it a week ago and am still hyped about it!
The bit after the full credits was awesome. Just the looks on their faces! Ha!
Thanks for the review, fellas.

@mitrooper about Hulk or Thanos?

great video, you guys are AWESOME!! Especially you Jeff :D
I love the guy on the left. His enthusiasm is infectious.
Good to see it lived upto your childhood expectations Jeff! Saw it on Tuesday, Ah-mazing movie! "Puny God!"
I'd love to see their review on Endgame...RIP TRS...
Ok thanks for the answer. I'll most likely watch the regular version but I'll vote with some friends over what to do.
14:02 Jeff Nerdgasm! LMAO!
The guy on the left has so much passion. Awesome to see
Great review! Surprisingly, without any real spoilers. Can't wait to see this movie!
Don't know if you know this now but Mark Ruffalo has been givin the next 6 potrayals of The Hulk, including his own movies and The Avengers 2
I honestly think it's one of the best blockbusters in the past 10 years. Popcorn entertainment at its finest. Watched it 2 times already!
I am going to have to go see this movie again. As a big Joss Whedon fan, and someone who has seen all the origin films, I wasn't really sold on it. Just didn't wow me, but this review makes me want to see it again.
Why does this review only have 20k hits? Great episode!
Jeff is so passionate I love him XD
who was the guy at the end
what was the word Nick Fury said?
He stablished that he "can't" offer critique anymore because of his starting career in movies. But I think he gave way more contribution this time than in other recent movie reviews on TRS.
which word? what scene?
I could listen to these guys go on for HOURS!!!!!!
Jeff had a good laugh at 18:23.

"it is all the summer movies last year combined" LMAO
JEFF I LOVE YOU!!! FANBOY TO THE EXTREME!! I'M LITERALLY IN TEARS MAN!

saw this movie for the second time yesterday, still want to see it again
I cheered and laughed all the way through.I felt like a kid again.
I feel like watching it again. Just seeing Jeff gush all over it made me like it more. A phenomenal film.
I think the 2003's Hulk was the best Hulk. Jeff! you speak for everyone. Well done!
I feel like I have to personally thank Joss Whedon for making this work. This movie was incredible. It went above and beyond my expectations.
This is the only review I was waiting for, and going to trust. Oh boy, do I want to see this flick now.
i saw this movie last friday and i loved it so much only thing that i thought was weird/bad was the hulk going from tottaly out of control to have full control over his powers
@Rhys Clark Ikr it had action, comedy, superheroes, romance, drama, it was a thriller. The only genre it didn't have was horror.
Agree 300% with every bit you guys pointed out. It was TOO good, and left me breathless.
Let's give a quick shout-out to Christina Applegate
Love the show guys! Keep it up
Holy shit 26 thousand views on a TRS video? On UA-cam? Woah... Just went back and watched this review because it was a dope review, but holy shit... I hope some of these guys subscribe, as this is an amazing channel.
Not 100% sure, but it was one of two possibles. Either a Skrull, or Thanos.
Great review guys. Can't wait to see this.

Super pumped to see this movie and it's good to know that I'm not too old to be a super marvel fanboy!
14:01 now thats what you call a fan!
I can understand the feeling, I do think it could have been a lot better, but I still think it held together very well.
I loved the film so much to me its right up there with the original Star Wars trilogy. My 4th favorite film of all time.Definitely the greatest movie experience I have ever had in the theatre.
What was the word nick fury said
I am very glad that Dan has regressed to his original skin tone. . . unless he turned green for this show, which would have been pretty cool.
"...50 years in the making."
Jeff got spiteful there.
Godamn Jeff is animated: 12:55 :D
Guy on the right is getting me excited to watch it again.
Hulk ripped Wolverine apart and threw his body a few miles apart. 'Nuff said. (Remember that the joints between wolverine are not made of adamantium, although of course his body will heal)

got a good look at him in the Thor sequence I just felt "deflated"… like all the previous suspense had just disappeared;
dat Jeff's face expressions :)
Damn, now the guy on the right is making me excited to watch it again.
@TheDescentKingVick I was kind of a question. Thanks.
Great movie, and I agree, but the guy in grey was so emotional I thought he would explode.
the good thing is that joss is going to direct and write the avengers 2 :D
The 6 year old Jeff would have loved Transformers! The irony.
Just bought the extended Blue Ray!!!
And R.I.P. Bill Bixby. (Show's end theme plays)
the guy in the grey shirt sumed up what i felt about the avengers in 5 miniutes
Saw it yesterday. Im no Marvel fan like jeff and i thought it was okey. Pretty good. It had awesome fight scenes. The Hulk was awesome !
I didn't see any of the previous films except for Captain America, and I still thought it was a great movie.
Mark Millars the Ultimates has a lot of elements that where better then the Avengers movie, but just because they where awesome.
We just witnessed Jeff hulk out in excitement.
Jesus Jeff is excited.
The Guy In the middle looks like the Guy from sunny in Philadelphia
easily the most passionate of the three
Hes just moderating the conversation cause he's directing a feature film in the near future and doesnt wanna piss off anyone in the movie industry by offering his opinions.
just realized Dan's tan is gone :(
BRING BACK JERSEY DAN
Are the Avengers good guys or bad guys ??
@ohcrap1989 Agreed. However honestly, idk how many people heard it over their own laughter haha.

Great review! The movie is perfect, I gotta watch it again!
14:03 This review without words.
Not every matchup, I really wanted to see Phil vs Hulk.
nah Marvel films in the new continuity have been consistent quality for the past 5 years. Maybe they were not grim and gritty like the Dark Knight but they most certainly have not sucked.
my favs from 1 to 6, 1. avengers, 2. incredible hulk, 3. Iron man 2 4. Captian america 5. Iron man 6. Thor love these movies
Toby Huss' best role is that of Artie the Strongest Man in the World

Lol imagine if the dark knight was just one set of movies to set up the justice league!
trying to stay professional :-) this is Alex, very funny guy actually.
ppfft! Deathly Hallows Part 2 came out last summer! The Avengers was good, but could never top Potter.
completely agree!
So grey shirt your telling me that as a comic book reader you've never read a comic better the this movie? So if this movie was in comic form it would be one of the best avengers comic ever? I don't think so
lol Jeff is having a break down.
13:50 i had a nerdgasm aswell when i saw that part of the movie
