    There is nothing as particular as far as the cuisine of Chandigarh is concerned. But the first thing that comes in a person's mind when talking about food in Chandigarh is pure north Indian dishes. Usually it is pure Punjabi food that is famous throughout Chandigarh, and considered to be the main part of its cuisine. Wheat-based huge rotis, paranthas dipped in ghee and butterly naan is the staple diet of Chandigarh. Irrespective of whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, rotis in all meals is a must have ingredient. The main characteristic of Punjabi food is prevalent use of butter, desi ghee and makkhan (cheese); without which a dish is considered incomplete.
    Paratha is a famous dish in Chandigarh. The main breakfast items in Chandigarh are the various different paranthas made out of flour/wheat stuffed with different vegetables. People consume a lot of parathas in different variations.
    There are Aloo ka paratha, Mooli ka paratha, Methi ka paratha, Gobi ka paratha, Punjabi Lachha Paratha, Kulcha, Chole bhature and so on. The parathas are usually served with dahi, raita or aachar (pickles)
    The Aloo ka paratha is a thick bread/roti filled with stuffed potato or likes. Likewise, Mooli ka paratha is made out of grated raddish with wheat/maida and Gobi ka paratha is made out of stuffed cauliflowers and cabbages.
    Chole bhatoore is a famous breakfast as well as lunch and dinner dish in Chandigarh. It is a combination of chole (spicy chick peas) and bhatoora (a large fried bread/roti made of maida flour). You can also ask for Chole poori in breakfast, where poori is a smaller version of bhatoore, usually of around 4-5 inches. Similarly, Halwa poori is a dish served with sweet halwa made of suji.
    Lunch and Dinner in Chandigarh:
    Lunch and dinner, unlike all the breakfast items includes mainly north indian thalis and Punjabi cooking. Along with all the various types of rotis, naans, phulkas, chappatis and paranthas, there are these delicious varieties of biryani, pulaos and fried rice items combined with lip smacking gravy stuffs.
    The gravies and the dry curry items come in different Punjabi variations. There are popular vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes available as lunch or dinner in Chandigarh. The classic non veg dishes include the tandoori chicken and kababs. The dishes are mainly made inside the Tandoor (heated earthen pots) or Tawa (Indian griddle).
