    What I find amazing is how you can see him improve drastically over the course of this exercise, he starts adding more to his shots (even though he's not technically supposed to), and they have a better shape to them. Just a few minutes of taking it easy, and it's transformed his game; no stress, no mistakes.

    Nice idea about consistency over speed when you practice. Don't run when you can't walk. Excellent tip.
    Will tell my tennis students this!

    My mind is blown - I literally just did this for myself. I strung 2 or 3 disappointing tournaments in a row that shook my confidence. Decided I would literally just stop missing even if it meant taking 75%+ off my shots. To my surprise, I started playing better than ever! I've since been crushing my usual hitting partners in practice.
    Wish I had a coach like Patrick so it didn't take me an entire summer to realize this.

      I hope by 75% off you don't mean decelerating your racquet. Just see how this kid got faster racquet speed compared to the beginning. What he changed is his hitting trajectory.

    Great advice! My daily warm up routine with my 9 years son is similar: we need rally at least 100 strokes without missing before we go to the other drills. This really helps his consistency in his matches.

    sir one request - please arrange a playlist where a begineer can understand the natural progression to train for tennis because all videos are great but they are random so people like me don't get what to improve what and at what time, should we learn service first or forehand or topspin or footwork or like this exercise so please create something which tell a natural progression to learn tennis in a better way.
    btw thank you very much for this quality content for those who can't afford to train under you.

      @@devankpathak5618 I‘m playing tennis now for 14 years and started when I was 5 years old. The biggest progression I made was in the last 3 years when I played much more tennis and played with better players (It doesn’t matter if its training or matches). I dedicate some training to my worst shot, for example my serve is lacking behind and I‘ll train a lot of serves in one session. The next session is then normal again, loads of groundstrokes, volleys and serves.
      If you have a hitting partner that is better than you, ask for some tips. Sometimes they can greatly improve your tennis, although they are no professional.
      In general ! Do NOT overcomplicate tennis !. Fun is the biggest factor and if you are having fun, you‘ll improve over time without knowing.

    Yes absolutly right not to try to make a scortcut that will backfire . To play tecnical slow but right (meaning consistent with same high margin ) is the fastes way to play fast and
    right .This takes time, so one has to accept that, but the revard is so much faster and greater when done.

    I found that a good method is to count every shot at least until 20, even in matches. The mind want to achieve the goal and you start to play in a consistent way. Most of the time the opponents makes and error before 20 balls anyway...

  • @shafikmahomad6629

    @patrick - I see the value in this BUT how does one conciliate this mindset with the one from Craig O'Shaunnessy where he says 95% of tennis is 0-4 shots (more or less regardless of level) thus everybody should be practicing serve+1, return+1 patterns...

    • @pzh1

    • @MrTresto
      @MrTresto 2 роки тому +2

      Except the angles/etc on a wall are not the same as on a court. You can hit a ball that will bounce on a wall, it doesn't mean that the same ball would land in the court. As a result, this makes the wall not so great practice at all....

  • @allboutthemojo
    @allboutthemojo 2 роки тому +15

    Always great videos and I get that he's trying to stress a point but the pros practicing hitting and not missing for 30 minutes or only 2 unforced errors in 30 minutes of full power hitting is hilarious. Watched all the top pros practice and even live on occasion. They miss a lot during practice because that's the time to try stuff and the only time acceptable to miss. There are consistency specific drills that the pros do in practice and during those their goal is to make as many balls as possible with good depth and direction. During those drills they will hit with about 75 percent of their capacity and it's that time they use to train their focus. Those drills too should be limited to making say 25 shots in a row. Practice has to be purposeful. You are not training for 40 ball rallies because those are rare and infrequent..play to 25 and then see if you can repeat one more time. You're never going to see 3 , 25 ball rallies back to back to back unless you're playing against a cyborg.

      Hm... You're wrong, Sz Ki in that this drill is stupid. You are right that we don't usually see more than 25 ball rallies. This drill is for consistency no matter how many times you have watched pro practice. They have gone way beyond practicing slow ball drills for consistency. Ofc, you will see more UFE in open practice because they are dialing for matches. Most amateurs' balls go everywhere. By doing this drill, we can learn how to hit the ball with same skill more accurately.
