Thank you sir! For weeks after I purchased a 03 beetle My breathing a lung capacity were so bad I developed a upper respiratory infection . I went to my V.A and got drugs and it still didn't help! I happened upon this video and said hmmm. I opened it up and Everything from the feathers of a woodpecker , nuts from a squirrel plusleaves were crammed in there and Since it's a convertible lots fungus and water. The filter looked like the muddy doormat of a fisherman's cottage. So now that I've cleaned it I feel better😁 so thank you VW wiseman. Also I rode around with the cover off and no filter. I put baking soda and in there too. So that's my boomer review hope it helps you.
Thanks so much. I changed mine. Gross. It looks like it hasn't been changed since I bought the car four years ago. I love doing these things myself instead of paying someone. Your video made things really clear. Thank you!
I want to thank you so much for this very informative video. I'm sure I would have broke something had I not watched your video. I was shocked when I disassembled it and saw it was so dirty and full of leaves. I'm pretty sure it was original equipment. Our beetle is a 2004. The filter change did the trick and the vents circulating air quite well now. I will share that my bug had six screws holding the cover above the filter.
I just bought an 06 Beetle, I am learning that the German designers must have been on some happy Juice when they designed the car, everything is so cheaply built, and mostly plastic......... "Plastic Fenders"??????I think the Crumple Zones in case of a crash , are the passengers themselves .....I had no idea about the Cabin filter.........Thanks for the Video, so well done , to the point and simple , Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!
NICE 👌 THANK YOU for helping me to NOT DESTROY the DASH on my Lil Bug, and i couldn't believe my eyes😳 with all the leaves dirt & debris that had built up over 20years THANK YOU BUDDY👍👍
Thanks for the informative video. I was to change my cousin's cabin air filter in his 2006 Beetle successfully. It was very filthy and the he recently purchased it.
thank you for the detailed easy to follow video, the previous owners of my bug were smokers so I figure this changing this cabin air filter will help. Already cleaned the car several times....
Good Lord! They did not intend for the average buyer to replace this, did they? Thank you so much for showing how this is done. Is the air filter standard in all years? My daughter has a 2007 with the leather package. We bought it used last year and while it is in good shape for its age, it has a few issues we are gradually addressing and one of them is it smells like "crayons" (according to the 11 year old). I am wondering if a new filter would help. We've dealt with the sudden surprises of a leaking sunroof, and the small oil leak that required a $20 part but to replace it involved taking the car apart. Now we are starting on the few little interior repairs that will make it look new again. We are discovering even those are costly so anything we can do ourselves is great. Thanks again!
this isn’t really a complicated repair. a few plastic panels and like 5 torx screws. also, nothing’s going to help the crayon smell. it’s just a VW thing! you get used to it after a while. i did at least.
The crayon smell is from the glue they use for the carpeting/interior. That's just a standard VW smell! But the cabin filter should get replaced at least once a year I'd say either way.
Tried myself, damn I don't think I will buy another VW car anymore. Literally they just don't want you to work on anything even the simplest thing. Pain in the butt to change it out.
Thank you sir!

Lea the crayon smell is common I have a 2000 beetle and a 2004 Jetta they both have that smell ;)
The crayon smell is from the glue they use for the carpeting/interior. That's just a standard VW smell! But the cabin filter should get replaced at least once a year I'd say either way.
Fantastic !. Many thanks for your excellent advice. Kind regards.
