Seeing and reading your keys and flying 100% with them can lead you to those turnovers and to the crib!
This video is right on time! My son is about to start high school ball this fall and he wants to make safety his primary position. Your explanation of why a Safety needs to have higher football IQ over a CB is exactly what I’ve been expressing to him. Great video.
I’m a safety, i am 5’11 and around 135. I’m still gaining weight and hope to be around 160 by the end of my freshmen year. But my coach doesn’t recognize me, I do good in games with atleast 5 tackles per game. Haven’t had one pass complete on me, nor any runs past me. But he doesn’t notice that and I also play Free and Strong. Still 2nd string for them both though.
Tip would be to actually try to build a relationship w ur coach and start doing workouts on ur own. Plus go up to him after practices and say thank you but what can i do to better
one of my biggest struggles is knowing the game basketball comes second nature but football is taking me a lil bit longer but once i be consistent in studying film i become really dope & it’s sad because i’m a collegiate player & it’s taking me this long.. i’m most definitely finna look into the link you’re talking about
Love this! So helpful. Learned so much. A lot of people think it’s just about hitting and making big plays. You made it clear that an intelligent football team is a winning football team. In more ways than one. Thank you so much.
Before playing Football I was playing soccer as a defender, full back. So reading movement and people is not really a problem but going through the playbook is confusing 😂 thanks for the tips. Iam 5’9 around 67kg
Yes, perfect example of how skills from another sport come into play in football. The playbook will be confusing at first no doubt but with continued time studying the game, it will get easier. Enjoy the journey
Same here I was not that great with the ball on my feet, but I knew my strength was both the defensive and the "brain" I tried to be a "libero", a "sweeper", a "quarto zagueiro" or even a "metronome def midfielder" but is hard to be a pirlo or a backembawer without great ball control and passing to be a playmaker So, turns out the local american football club liked me and I just need to get bulkier (I'm 1.82 but only 74kg now) But despite it I have a low center of gravity so lets see how it works
im good at football but im underated on offense so thats why i like to play safety you stll get to have the ball a lot and you also get to make hard hits and ive been practing for safety for all my life for safety and this video helped so thank you very much
thank you for this, when I play, the quarterback looks at the receivers as they run the play. This helps me read the quarterback and gives me a 6 interception game, but i suck at tackling so i’ll work on that
The intelligence is everything, scholar safety is my thing. Usually before games i watch film of the rival team and drawing their plays. One game i moved to safety and i paralyzed half oftheir offense in two plays. The second half was really boring because the qb didnt threw anything at my direction.
I'm 5'9 at 164 pounds and while I'm not the most informed about american football(I'm Jamaican) Ive played it with friends seriously and my friends noticed(I wouldn't know) that I play like a safety, jumping high ,blocking/intercepting the ball and they say that I'm fairly fast,I'm going into highschool this year,do you guys in the comments know if I'm good material?
i used to be really good at safety but my 8th grade year (this year) ive gotten worse at everything in football. also ive been over thinking and idk what to do abt it
Well for one, stop over thinking. Trust what you see but let's make sure you are seeing the right things. Also, make sure you understand your defense and where you are supposed to be. Make sure you are doing your job and don't pressure yourself into trying to do everyone else's job.
Good tips . I play a lot of flag . I just moved from WR to safety full time. I make plays but it feel like it’s just off instinct. I feel I need to dig deeper and really learn more to build field IQ of the position. If that make sense 😂 . Had a tournament in my city over the weekend and we lost in the championship from alot of blown plays not the norm for us but it got ugly … Appreciate the tips ima dig deeper 🙏🏿💯
Coming from the offensive side of the ball you will have solid instincts as you will recognize concepts faster. Burglars would create the best alarm companies.
I’m 5’10 190 and I’m pretty fast. I have to get faster and maybe a little bit taller but I know I would be a great safety. I’m playing line backer right now in highschool but I feel out of position

Imma sophomore and it’s my 1st year playing football and they got me playing safety. Totally confused I understand almost non of the verbiage. would so much rather play db. We don’t even have a goddamn playbook I can look at offense and defense. We’re completely signal based. That's not uncommon. Many coaches make the assumption that players know that the players understand the terminology and are grasping what is being put on the white board. People learn in different ways. Some can learn from film, some can learn from the whiteboard and others need walk throughs. That's why all 3 should be a part of the routine. What you should do is not be afraid to ask questions. It shows the coach that you are engaged.
