I'm not remotely a football expert but learning about all of the preparation and strategy that goes into one single play and the type of coverage used is fascinating. Clearly spoken, direct, concise, excellent. I remember John Madden in an interview stating how he'd gone to Vince Lombardi's football academy and how Lombardi spent an ENTIRE day going over just one offensive play.
Coach really appreciate this cover2 video. I hope there will be more explanation videos for Defensive crew THX (maybe cover3 or man cover facing WR mix-match )
I have several more in the member's area on my website including cover 3, 3 cloud, Cover 4, 2 man and a few others. Check out the member's area alleyesdbcamp.com/sign-up/
Cover 2 is truly a team defense all in thats why i usually only call it when its the scoring side of the field or backed up after we have established pressure on the Qb and have his mind on the passrush. I Will try to teach my safeties this technique of not drifting out too soon.
@@GridironStuds I used to play free safety and enjoyed it. I guest with Grant Cohn weekly for the 49ers - how may I credit you for the information and refresher course?
we press on our cover 2 its like a more physical cover 2 would you think pressing to bluff man (inside press) is better or your way is better cause we have a call that we go man to man as a set up(i play CB) anything helps coach.....and could you maybe go over a video of breaking down bluffing man in a cover 2 how to flip hips better
Who’s got the running back if he swings right for a pass late, waiting for the play to unfold or even QB waiting for play to unfold then sprints right for a run
I graduated high school in 2007. I’m pretty sure UA-cam came out in 2006. Obviously there was nothing like this on UA-cam back then but boy are these kids lucky these days to have this type of knowledge at their fingertips
Great explanation! My grandson is playing corner and this was good for me to understand. Does the Jam have to take place within a certain yardage? Thanks
In your 1st example where the Y is running a corner and Z is running a hitch. The corner would call China and go deep and Sam LB would break on the hitch correct??
Will and Sam pass those routes off yelling in to alert the next inside defender which would be Mike. Corners get reroutes on 1 and wait to see if something is coming across the field.
Outside backer (slot defender) would be responsible as the two go routes will cause the corner and safety to that side to retreat. I taught my linebackers to avoid going behind the line of scrimmage in zones to defender routes. Rally to a throw to a swing back and not open up a void in the defense for routes beyond the line of scrimmage to be targeted.
Good question. That is something I cover in my member's area. I have video on there on Cover 2 vs. Trips. You should consider joining. You can get more info on it here: alleyesdbcamp.com/sign-up/
Very good and informative but im left wondering at the end if the Mike is supposed to go deep down the middle then what if one of the number 2s run a shallower slant route to the inside on like a 3rd and short type of play where they are just trying to get a 1st down? Are the sam and will linebackers supposed to run with them on those routes?
In a regular cover 2 your outside line backers are playing hook curl (to flat situationally) Zone is about communication. Outside Backers will drop 7-10 hook curl& MLB is in a middle read meaning if a tight end goes vertical or #2 goes vertical and breaks toward the middle of the field he will run with it and play under the route. Think about route concepts when you’re in coverage. If #2 runs a slant more than likely #1 will either also run a slant, or an out or a fade to run off the safety. Remember that every zone has a weakness also and in this case that weakness will be deep middle and outside sidelines. So if #2 runs a slant YELL “IN” and find work.. if #1 goes vertical & 2 runs a slant you would try your best to play the slant WITHOUT CHASING IT ACROSS THE FIELD remember you have another backer on the other side to pick up on it bc as linebackers we don’t cover grass and we don’t chase in zone. Either way your coach would rather you give up a 5 yard slant than a 25 yard crossing route. And remember that QBs reads are all based on timing so if he’s gonna throw that slant more than likely he’s throwing it NOW and not later. QBs drop 9/10 especially at lower level will tell you what routes are on the field, how deep they will break at and how quickly the ball will be out.
Unless the back is to your side and you would not carry those slant routes across the field if they end up going there. You move in with the route for about 3 yards then call it in to the next defender.
The sam backer would come off and rally to a throw in the flat to the running back in that scenario. As #2 goes vertical, the SAM would release him to the safety and be available to come back down on a throw like that.
When you call out China, it alerts the outside LB or Nickel back that there is a hitch. He will then get out to that route to defend it while you sink back for the corner route.
This helps a lot I’m a freshman dB and I can’t think you enough coach
Great. It's important to understand coverages. It really helps you make plays.
How you doing now?

Love this coach's basic instructions
Trying to make it simple and easy to understand
Thanks for this video Coach! Very helpful even though I’m a DB in the Canadian game.
Great glad I could help. Does your team play Cover 2?
GridironStuds / All Eyes DB Camp - Chad Wilson yes cover 2, mostly a cover 3 team though!
@@chrisck3910 Ok gotcha
Man, you really clarify it with your explanations. Thank you very much!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
thanks for the explanation. Indonesian here try to learn football deeper.
appreciate it coach
Fantastic presentation. It was nostalgic as all get out when you said get deep it's not your job! Good calls coach!
Thank you

I appreciate the videos I’m about to go to college as an athlete these videos help me train better knowing my responsibilities in coverage
Awesome. Glad I could help you.
Love your videos coach 💪🏾 appreciate you putting in the work and time
T/hanks. I appreciate the kind words and the inspiration to continue.
Coach Wilson,
Can you please do a video explaining:
COVER 2 vs. TRIPS & BUNCH ?
Keep up the great work Coach, Thanks!

Dbs Jam your guys inside impede their motion don’t let anything get outside of u! Play the flats if nothing rolls out then get depth or go find work
very well put sir!

Yes they are and not just for football and sports too.
Great explanation! My grandson is playing corner and this was good for me to understand. Does the Jam have to take place within a certain yardage? Thanks
At his level no, as long as it occurs before the ball is thrown. However, it is recommended to get it at or around the 5 yard mark
Forgot to mention he’s playing high school football. So he can jam anytime as long as before ball is thrown.
In your 1st example where the Y is running a corner and Z is running a hitch. The corner would call China and go deep and Sam LB would break on the hitch correct??
Correct
What do the corners, will, and sam do if H and Y run shallow drag routes?
Will and Sam pass those routes off yelling in to alert the next inside defender which would be Mike. Corners get reroutes on 1 and wait to see if something is coming across the field.
Thanks coach! Quick question, what's the rule if the RB runs the swing on the same side of two go routes?
Outside backer (slot defender) would be responsible as the two go routes will cause the corner and safety to that side to retreat. I taught my linebackers to avoid going behind the line of scrimmage in zones to defender routes. Rally to a throw to a swing back and not open up a void in the defense for routes beyond the line of scrimmage to be targeted.
Do you have videos on cover 0, 1, & 3 too?
yes in my member's area: alleyesdbcamp.com/sign-up/
if the Y goes deep and the running back comes out to the flats on a swing or bubble, is the sam picking that up or is that on the corner?
Yes, Sam would rally to that swing or expand to pick up the back in the flat
Hey coach I have a question let’s say it’s 3 guys on side and 1 guys on the other side, how would you play cov 2 on the three guys?
Good question. That is something I cover in my member's area. I have video on there on Cover 2 vs. Trips. You should consider joining. You can get more info on it here: alleyesdbcamp.com/sign-up/
Would these coverage rules work the same in a 7 on 7 setting?
Yes

@AK 6 months late but I hope this helps you
Do the corner always keep reciever in the inside because a guy ran a comeback on me and I didn’t knw he was behind me
It is highly recommended that the corner forces the receiver inside!
Defense secretary 👩💼 💯
Can you do one on cover 3!?
I believe I have one on this channel. If not, I definitely have it in my member's area. You should consider joining: alleyesdbcamp.com/sign-up/
What about all slants? Basically man at that point?
Unless the back is to your side and you would not carry those slant routes across the field if they end up going there. You move in with the route for about 3 yards then call it in to the next defender.
Who takes the running back, in the flat, if both receivers on that side go for article?
The sam backer would come off and rally to a throw in the flat to the running back in that scenario. As #2 goes vertical, the SAM would release him to the safety and be available to come back down on a throw like that.
One more question. Does the corner ever watch the quarterback
In Cover 2? He's reading the #2 receiver. The slot WR

Thank you coach I play nickel it still helped though.
God bless.
Glad it did. That is the point of doing these
6:42 Play Drop Back And Make The QB Make The The Short Throw And Make A Play On The Ball/Wrap Up?
When you call out China, it alerts the outside LB or Nickel back that there is a hitch. He will then get out to that route to defend it while you sink back for the corner route.

Why China and not Japan ?
Try yelling Japan with a mouthpiece in your mouth. LOL
My Steelers love to play this cover two crap for some reason smh
Why is it crap? What would you like them to run?
