Nothing worst than insects ir the glare of the sun in your eyes if you get a bad seat at a wedding. But if all the conditions are right its the best ever. We love outdoor weddings
This was a great rundown! If you do decide to do a deeper dive into a full AirBnB video (I think you should!) it’s worth noting that both AirBnB and VRBO have search functions specifically for properties that allow parties. It’s a great way to find venues that aren’t necessarily on your typical wedding venue circuit but are more well-equipped than a typical house rental. I used VRBO to find the location for a barn wedding I helped throw a few years ago and found a lovely property which also had three cottages for the whole bridal party to stay onsite. Because it was generally priced for just the housing and the party spaces just happened to be on site, it was MUCH cheaper than the equivalent venue rental/hotel blocks would have been. The biggest advantage was that we rented the entire property for a week so we had gobs of time for DIY installs and set up, and an extra day afterward to break down without the stress. I highly recommend it if you can find the right property, and you can filter searches on both sites.
keep in mind that some airbnbs will say they have a wedding fee. I called an estate that I could rent their airbnb and one top of staying at the airbnb for 3 days (about $3000, their wedding fee was an additional $3500. Then they said that I had to rent bathroom trailers because they dont want to allow the 55 guests in the 6 bathrooms in the estate, which would cost $1700 to rent. Couldn't cook in their large kitchen for our food to cut costs either and they recommend to ask the fire department up the street to use their kitchen. So what seemed like a "cheap" optional venue became too expensive for my budget. So keep that in mind. Still logistically trying to figure where to go. I am probably going with a state park or a more nontraditional venue (sigh)
@@synthia6428 You definitely have to keep in mind that an airbnb might be on a septic system and that means they have limited capacity for the extra usage that comes with a wedding. Simply renting honey buckets/sani cans might work, maybe rent a tent to put them in, place a hand washing station inside too & maybe something for lighting so it fits your aesthetic a bit better.
If you are having an immediate family only backyard wedding at a family members house (20 people or less) there are a few things that I think would/could look different from the “average” wedding. 1. No attendants. With no attendants the need for a lengthy rehearsal is gone. A very short rehearsal is all that would be needed. You could still have a rehearsal dinner. 2. If you are having a rehearsal dinner which typically would include immediate family, then why not have the large family portraits done on that day. That leaves the wedding photography to details, getting ready, couple, and photos with the parents. Also, if it is an immediate family only wedding the ceremony may be outdoors, but the reception may be indoors. What are your thoughts?
Mouse Bones I wouldn’t have anyone in wedding attire for large family photos. Now a days, at least in my area, it’s rare for people to do large family professional photos. So jeans and a white shirt or something like that is what we’d do. Something we can blow up and put on a canvas or frame and hang on a wall.
I guess having a small space! Also cheaper ;) Maybe don't look at traditional wedding venues, but look to rent out a cute restaurant or something. Maybe the one where you had one of your first dates!
Jamie you are the best! You've saved my sanity with planning my wedding. I'm having an country church then walking next door to a village hall that is on the beach front and having a company come in to do a hog roast BBQ. My parents want the formal sit down hotel meal but we have stuck to what we want. Love from the UK.
I would love to know your thoughts on bilingual or trilingual weddings. My fiancé’s family speaks German and mine speaks french, and unfortunately most of our family members do not speak English. My fiancé and I speak English together and will invite some people who speak English (but not French or German). I’ve been to weddings in languages that I didn’t understand and I know how frustrating it can be not to understand anything. I hope we’ll be able to make sure that no one feels excluded at our wedding.
Hi! I would appreciate a video on that subject, too. We are planning a bilingual wedding (German/Polish) and thus far, we hired a bilingual ’conférencier’ who will lead through the party in two languages; in the church we will have a bilingual pastor, and although most of the ceremony will be in German, there will be Polish readings and we will put the Polish translations in the ceremony programs. Doing everything twice (in both languages) just takes a long of time and really ruins the atmosphere, I find. We will print bilingual menus, etc. and will include specific traditions and their explanation so everybody knows what’s going on. Speeches will be kept short and sweet (
I would also really appreciate this. Me and my boyfriend are planning on getting married. My family is Norwegian and his family is Slovenian. My family speak English quite well, but his does not. I would love to hear some advice on how everyone will feel included. Norwegian and Slovenian is also not a combination of languages that a lot of people know, so it would be hard to find someone who can do things in both languages.
Perhaps you could have the priest/officiant do everything in English, but when you say your vows and everything do it in French, and when he says his vows, he could do it in German. And then you could have a program on each seat explaining the order, and basically translating what’s going to happen/be said in each language.
I love that you're here every week, giving us all hope and something to look forward to while dealing with this pandemic! You're a beautiful soul and I so appreciate your videos ❤. Notes taken! Getting married in my grams field in September and thos video was so useful!
Love your channel and this video has so much good information! Couldn't help but notice something completely unrelated (that is something very important for brides too). Those beautiful earrings on your really pink ears. Fun fact: It's totally normal for them to pink up when we are excited. That's why we, as wedding photographers, always make sure the stylist doesn't forget to do the brides ears (and lots of times even the grooms!). 😊 Keep up the good work!
I never comment, but I need to jump on here and say THANK YOU for what you do Jamie 💕 truly you inspire me so much, not only for planning my own wedding but for the woman, mother, and over all lovely human that you are! I am SO grateful I found your channel. Your channel is a glorious work of art and education combined, the work you do does not go unnoticed! ALSO EVERY. SINGLE. VIDEO. You look soooooo cute, I envy your style and completely adore you 😭 that's all, bye bye 💕
First of all, you’re a beautiful, fairy person. Your hair and earrings are gorgeous! Secondly, thank you so much for creating these videos. It’s been so stressful planning my wedding, postponing, and then postponing it again bc of the world right now... your videos are so uplifting and positive and ever so helpful. Thank you!!
Would you say that is cheaper to do a backyard wedding than a venue? I only plan on having 23-42 guest and I can’t decide the cheapest venue I have seen is around $3200 just for space, tables and chairs 😩
Can you do a video on the FIRST things to do when you get engaged? I've been expecting the big question soon and I'm dying to start wedding planning... but my wedding will be about 12 months away from when we get engaged. What are some things to start working on right away?
Ive been watching your videos for about a year. We just postponed our wedding officially with the venue so now I have another year to plan. Now time to binge watch whatever oldies I havent seen. Thanks for keeping me positive during this rough time.
Still watching the video but I wanted to throw in an extra note about telling the neighbors. DON'T FORGET THE NEIGHBORS BEHIND YOU! I went to 3 backyard weddings and all had discussed the event with the neighbors beside them, and all down the street where guests would be parking but they never spoke to the neighbors behind the yard since traffic wouldn't interfere with them. Well in all 3 situations- they were the ones who complained about the noise and one actually DID call the cops (Though it was only 9:30P and the noise ordinance was for 10 in that neighborhood so nothing happened.) So yea just keep that in mind as well!
We are doing a backyard reception, but we are doing a BYOB as well as having people bring lawn chairs to save money on tables and chairs. To top it all of we are going through subway for our dinner! A LOT cheap than anywhere else we looked! What do you guys think we are getting married in about a month
Would you say that this video could apply to weddings held in public parks? If not, do you have or could you make a video about that? My wedding wont be for another year or so but we are looking into holding the ceremony and reception in the public park where we had our first date. ❤ love your videos!!
Im doing my wedding in public park as well. But technically its private because we paid for the area we want and the fees is for all the permits needed for a wedding. :) they will also assign 1 park ranger for the wedding time.
I had just been watching a previous video, hoping for another when this popped up! I already have my heart set on a certain venue, but my cousin had a beautiful backyard wedding! Your videos are so inspiring, and I wish I could afford to hire you as my coordinator/planner for next year! That would be awesome! Edit: P.S. You're awesome!
Jamie! Your channel has been so amazing since I got engaged in April! Can you do some videos on other wedding events? The engagement party, shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, etc!
Perfect timing and lots of great tips for things I didn't think of! With most venues in CA temporarily closed, we're exploring other options for our spring 2021 wedding and just talked about using the backyard! Love your videos!!! ❤️🎉
Please talk more about the transportation! We are having a backyard wedding next May and will be using a church or park that is close for shuttling people. Thank you!
Oh yeah! This just sealed the deal!! No way it’s happening in our backyard! I knew there were reasons and you just reminded me of all of them!!! Thank you yet again!!!!
Always lovely to see your face! Can you do a video on how to let people help? Both of our families want to help with the wedding, but I'm not awesome at delegating... Especially with craft projects! How can we include our families?
Love your videos, I've learned a lot for my upcoming backyard wedding. Can you tell me what lighting did you say in the video, I couldn't hear it clearly. Thanks
Our niece just had her wedding in our pasture & reception in our backyard this past weekend, I wish we'd known about the bathroom trailers. We didn't want guests using the house, so we had them rent portable toilets, and no one used them. I/we didn't know about the nicer trailers & perhaps their guests would have been more open to that. Also, they didn't plan for lighting for after dark and I think it was very difficult for their guests to find them. Good tips on electricity, it's a huge consideration. We were able to line up a caterer for them who had sterno chaffing dishes and were otherwise able to get by with just 1 long extension cord.
Would the same ideas apply for just a reception in the yard/at an airbnb? Like having the ceremony at a church but then reception at home. It seems like it would be all the same things to consider but I just wanted to ask!
We might be doing a backyard wedding in 4-6 month! We will rent a lovely resthouse with amazing view and awesome sunset so i cant wait. (Although im extremely anxious too!)
Hey. Can you do a video on what things generally costs? Like a photographer, planner, day of coordinator, venue, dj, food? I understand that it depends, but generally. Thank you love your channel!
Where are you located? I also make wedding videos and would be happy to cover this topic although I really would love to hear Jamies expertise on it too
@@somethinggold9151 Well I live in Norway. My boyfriend is from Slovenia. I mean I really hope we will end up getting married. But that's way in the future anyways. But one of those places I guess. I mostly wanted to know cause I think it's interesting. Thanks!
I love your earrings! I have been looking for something similar for my wedding jewelry. Can I ask where you got them? You videos are a life saver by the way. Thank you
How did you guess???? I just yesterday had the idea to have my wedding at an Airbnb and already was saving the locations that fited what I wanted, host my wedding and my family guest from far away. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!
Please please please do a transportation video ASAP! We are struggling so much with this. We want our guests to have fun and not worry about driving but buses/shuttles are so expensive and hard to coordinate. Thanks Jamie! 🥰
Love all your videos so much!! Random video idea!! How to have a quarantine honeymoon! Our wedding was supposed to be this weekend and we had to postpone it. But we are still getting married with our officiant this weekend. In these wierd times it is hard to find fun ways to make a honeymoon that was supposed to happen extra special at home. Love your content!💛
Congratulations Ashlee! My fiancé and I are getting married in an intimate way too this year because of Covid 19 and later on we are doing a bigger celebration with our friends and family when this lifts. Something we are doing for the honeymoon is a mini honeymoon for now and a longer honeymoon for later at an all inclusive island resort when the corona virus is lifted. We are doing a short 3-4 day honeymoon for now at either a secluded air bnb cottage for the two of us and bring our own food and champagne/wine to celebrate! You can definitely do that or even get a cabin in the woods to connect with nature and a cool thing is that a lot of these places have a pool or a jacuzzi included on the property already! Hope this helps❤️
I so love your channel and am so glad I found you. I've been here since that backyard wedding video. I so wish i could have you as my wedding coordinator but im in Australia :(
Video recommendation! Not totally wedding day thing but wedding related, what’s the deal with rehearsal dinners? I would love to see a video giving the whole low down with rehearsal dinners and what’s expected.
HEY JAMIE! Do you have any experience with backyard weddings that used a rental company to temporarily cover up POOLs with dance floors/astroturf/platforms? I have been researching them for my backyard wedding and it would create so much more space and fix my dance floor problem but I would like to know if you had seen them in action or not. I guess I'm scared of the dancing affecting the structural integrity. Thanks for your helpful videos! :)
I came across your channel last week and I’m actually afraid to look at how many hours I’ve spent on UA-cam on my since. Your videos are insanely helpful, thank you! Would you be able to do a video on how much mothers should get involved in a wedding, with decisions etc? I’d be interested to hear your perspective
SOO helpful! We have been considering renting a large airbnb property for our wedding, and I have been thinking about some of these potential logistical issues! Thank you for this information, its super helpful!
Love your videos so much! I've been watching you since you started. I'm getting married in November in San Francisco and your videos are a lifesaver! Hope you and your family are staying safe ❤️
😥😥😥😥 I’m having a very private/personal wedding with just 20 of our family members and we’re debating if just reserving a restaurant private room or something or renting and Airbnb with a nice porch and ordering catering. More difficult than it sounds 😩
I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on how to find Airbnb wedding venues in L.A.? I tried Airbnb's search feature, but it doesn't have weddings as an option and other means have worked. Anyone? 🤔
You're my favorite channel to watch during all this because my wedding is up in the air. You even inspired me to start my own wedding/lifestyle channel :) I'm considering just getting a tent in my backyard for my original date with just family, but it would be very small and my house has a noisy street behind it. Do you think thats a deal breaker?
I know we’re not reinventing the wheel, as there have got to be some Jewish socially distanced weddings done by this point. We had to postpone the wedding to August 23 from May 17, and then when we thought this wouldn’t be long enough due to the craziness, we set a backup date of October 18. Now with everything going on, we’ve decided we’re getting married on August 23 no matter what. Plan B to the big wedding is very small, less than 10 people in a backyard with virtual live-streaming of the parts of our wedding. What I am trying to figure out now is how to finagle the parts of our ceremony, particularly the parts where people need to touch ritual objects in a safe Covid friendly way. There is so much stress that I did not anticipate to this process.
Hi, when you say one restroom for x number of guests, do you mean one restroom set (a boys AND girls room) or would a boys and a girls room count as two restrooms? Thanks!
If I were to do it in an Airbnb, I'd be so concerned the host might cancel on us at the last minute... It happened to me in the past while I was travelling, so I don't know...
I have a questions about the AirBnB thing. In my case, I want a small party of 15 in Yosemite for the ceremony, but the airbnb would just be a convenient place for our guests to stay all together. Is it still worth mentioning to the owner if it is just for lodging?
When you rent an Airbnb, do you not get in trouble for inviting ppl over? If my guest list is 40 ppl and I'm only allowed 8 people, couldn't that get me in trouble?
Do you have any experience with intimate ceremonies and larger receptions? My finance thinks it will be rude to only invite the majority of our guests to the reception but it would save us a ton of money. Is it rude? Thanks!
Hey, I worked at a huge resort/spa/casino in Reno for a bit, and I saw they often booked weddings to fit in as much as possible, and there were some strange places. We had an employee entrance to get into our tunnelling system, and they often had weddings set up next to that entrance. Just know where the wedding on site is and what the doors are used for. My fiance and I looked into a casino also, and they have some fantastic deals and have some major advantages compared to normal venues (like having a spa on site and multiple eatery options)
Don't forget to ask how many photos are included! I've had a few friends only receive 30-50 photos in their package, and have to pay $100+ for the 'rights' to use additional photos
My niece just had her backyard wedding. It was during the hottest month of the year here in Michigan. 90 degree heat and at least 50% humidity. They had a tent, catering with chafing dishes, music and a photographer. Also a photo booth? What made it miserable... Only 1 bathroom. 90 were invited. There were candles on the table. Should have been battery operated ones. The chafing dishes should have been outside the tent. It just created more heat. The area should have been treated for mosquitos. And there were only two small fans set at floor level. You need something on a stand. And more than two. People left early because the heat. You can plan everything to a T, but if you forget the comfort level all that time and effort will go to waste. Also, the ground had a slight downgrade.
I was thinking an AirBNB would be a great unique wedding venue, but after watching this video I'm nixing that idea. It just sounds like a nightmare situation imo.
Im supposed to be getting married in july and everything is still closed and i am now freaking out sadly at this point we are going to need to postpone.
Handicapped washrooms would only be necessary if you have a guest who requires this and if that is the case I would talk to them directly to find out what exactly they need to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. The elderly are generally capable of using regular washrooms. I would also say that gendered washrooms is a bad idea. Depending on your guests, you might have an imbalance of genders meaning the woman's might have a huge line whilst the men's line might be empty. Also, gendered washrooms are so last decade. Gender neutral washrooms not only help with lineups but also are more comfortable for transgendered people or people who don't fall within the gender spectrum
If people are going to use the home, why not rent the Chinese room dividers and so you can direct people to the bathroom and blind off the rooms and same is for the second floor to direct the individuals to the bathroom.
Please do an AirBnB video on how to find a venue
Yeah I would love to know as well
Set the guest amount to the max, then message the places and ask
Please don’t forget about Bugs ( ant piles, mosquitos and flies can really be annoying)
Sincerely Eccentric as someone who constantly gets bit by mosquitos every time I’m outside in the florida humidity I sincerely appreciate this comment

I love your lovely earrings, wow! This is such a good and fun video. Thank you!
can you do an air b n b wedding video like how to set it up
Would love some tips and opinions on "picnic" weddings!
Thanks!
As I was watching the video I couldn’t stop thinking how beautiful you look! Love your vibe! ❤️🌿
Killer tan too!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!
holy cow I didn't even think about bathrooms. What a lifesaver!
Please please please do a transportation video ASAP! We are struggling so much with this. We want our guests to have fun and not worry about driving but buses/shuttles are so expensive and hard to coordinate. Thanks Jamie! 🥰
Electric generators are great for outdoor spaces!
Heyy, our wedding was this weekend too! Hope you can make it a special day
Congratulations Ashlee!
Great video! Thankyou for all the tips.
Generators also put out a ton of heat, which can be bad if it's a summer wedding
What tips can you share about a diy barn/reception wedding?
Ohhh please please please! Would you please do a more in depth Air BnB video? 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Love your videos so much! I've been watching you since you started. I'm getting married in November in San Francisco and your videos are a lifesaver! Hope you and your family are staying safe ❤️
Group campsites are awesome
Can you make a video about rehearsal dinner and bridal shower norms etc. Love all of your stuff!!
EARLY!!💜 my wedding is very DIY and will become smaller due to COVID-19. Thank you for this video!!!
Loving this hair look...
Hi, when you say one restroom for x number of guests, do you mean one restroom set (a boys AND girls room) or would a boys and a girls room count as two restrooms? Thanks!
Jamie, you are so real, love you 🥰
thank you for this video! we just decided to postpone our big celebration a year and a do a very intimate backyard wedding.
Do you have any kind of training course for people wanting to become a wedding planner
Yes, need that transportation video ASAP!
I so excited for this video!! We had to reschedule our october wedding in Las Vegas so this will be helpful for our backyard ceremony!
Please tell me where you got your gold earrings! 😮
Or buffet style pre prepared food and hot plates lol simple
People can line up for food or it can the taken to their tables
Any tips for a State Park Wedding?
If I were to do it in an Airbnb, I'd be so concerned the host might cancel on us at the last minute... It happened to me in the past while I was travelling, so I don't know...
I have a questions about the AirBnB thing. In my case, I want a small party of 15 in Yosemite for the ceremony, but the airbnb would just be a convenient place for our guests to stay all together. Is it still worth mentioning to the owner if it is just for lodging?
Very informative video! Thank you for the valuable content!
Do you have a video for state park type weddings?? Me and my future hubby are looking to rent a pavilion at a nearby state park for our wedding.
have you ever done a State Park wedding?
Your videos are ALWAYS so helpful!! Thank you!!!!💕
I’m literally thinking of a wedding with like maybe 15 people lol…. All of the problems you mentioned won’t apply to me
How many people would you suggest be allowed to come to a back yard (10 acres) wedding in September if this pandemic is still going on?
This is exactly my plan and perfect timing!!!
Yes please do one on air b n b events
When you rent an Airbnb, do you not get in trouble for inviting ppl over? If my guest list is 40 ppl and I'm only allowed 8 people, couldn't that get me in trouble?
Do you have any experience with intimate ceremonies and larger receptions? My finance thinks it will be rude to only invite the majority of our guests to the reception but it would save us a ton of money. Is it rude? Thanks!
Wow this is great....backyard weddings in the philippines might not be applicable ..but this is great
woot woot! love updates and new vids
Can you please do a video about wedding packages. We are considering getting a wedding package from the Bellagio in Vegas for a wedding with
Hey, I worked at a huge resort/spa/casino in Reno for a bit, and I saw they often booked weddings to fit in as much as possible, and there were some strange places.
You look so summer and gorgeous!!
I was thinking an AirBNB would be a great unique wedding venue, but after watching this video I'm nixing that idea. It just sounds like a nightmare situation imo.
I was JUST thinking the same!
Yes I’ve been waiting for thisss
Please do a video a video on AirBnb weddings!
I’m having an Airbnb wedding in June. For $5000
This is amazing. I’m starting to look into this. Congratulations.
I want garden floral tablecloth 120 inch round. Someone help me!
Im supposed to be getting married in july and everything is still closed and i am now freaking out sadly at this point we are going to need to postpone.
NerdGirl2592 I understand. We are scheduled for July 18 and I’m panicking.
@@kourtnieboncher july 25 for us and when things shut down we still had so much to do.
July 18th was also our date and so sad we have to postpone another year🤦🏼♀️
If you have a wedding reception is at someone's home you might need to get an extra bathroom for men and women and handicapped for the elderly.
