When Shirley started in Show Business back in 1953, she worked as a chorus girl. During these initial years working with older vaudeville performers she learned various dancing techniques and how to perfect both her dancing and singing craft. Thankfully, we are able to view some of her early appearances where she included dance routines.
It was not very long after she started in the business the tour producers deemed her voice top-tier, and they brought her to the front to become the main vocalist. It was only a matter of time and Shirley finally gave up her dancing shoes and concentrated on her singing. But, on special occasions in early show appearances like this one she would put them back on and include a musical dance routine. Sammy Davis Jr thought the world of Shirley, knowing each other going back to the late 1950s in Las Vegas. She was multi-talented like him. Thanks to UA-cam, and the ability now to remaster this very old footage, these wonderful performances are able to come back to life!
The song, "I Who Have Nothing" was a 1963 single in the UK, Europe and Asia. It was a very big hit for her. The song WE was recorded and released on Shirley's 1969 album titled, 'Does Anybody Miss Me". This beautiful song is hard to find on UA-cam with a simple title like "WE". It was written by Rod McKuen and Henry Mancini for the 1969 movie titled, "Me, Natalie". Besides Rod himself, I don't know if anyone else has recorded this beautiful song. This movie was Al Pacino's film debut.

Richard Red Skelton (July 18, 1913 - September 17, 1997) was an American entertainer best known for his national radio and television shows between 1937 and 1971, especially as host of the television program The Red Skelton Show. He has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in radio and television, and also appeared in burlesque, vaudeville, films, nightclubs, and casinos, all while he pursued an entirely separate career as an artist.

Yes, Shirley was born in Tiger Bay, Wales. Her English Mother. Eliza Jane, migrated from England to Wales just before her birth. Her father, Henry Bassey was a Nigerian sailor whom she never knew. He was accused of a terrible crime before Shirley turned three, and was sentenced to prison. Upon his release, he was promptly kicked out of the UK. Regardless of how she self-identifies, I consider Dame Shirley Bassey to be of the greatest female International singing stars to come from anywhere within the United Kingdom over the last 100 years.
