Sweet & Sour Fish (Fish Escabeche)

  • This is my go to recipe for sweet and sour fish also called by some as escabeche. This version is boneless, however you can always serve this using a whole fish with bones and skin. This recipe for me has the perfect balance of sweet and sour.
    Feel free to omit the pineapple if you want to. It is not a crucial ingredient to the recipe. You can also use the sauce for sweet and sour pork though I use a different recipe.

    The sweet and sour sauce is perfect. I used this on chicken sweet and sour it was so yummy. The pineapple tidbits made it perfect.

      Yes pwedeng pwede. You can also omit if you don't have. The rice wine takes out the langsa from the fish.

    Who ever told you that sweet and sour fish is "ESCABECHE" lied to you! Escabeche is NOT sweet!!! You just lied to a whole lot of people!

      The origin of the word "escabeche is Persian. The Arabs brought escabeche to Spain in the 8th century. The word is derived from "Al-sikbaj", a popular Arabic meat dish that was cooked in sweet and sour sauce with vinegar and honey or molasses as sweetener. Spain brought escabeche to their territories including the Philippines. Sweet and Sour fish is the chinese version of escabeche which is very popular in the Philippines.
      Please google this for more information so you will not think that google also lied.
