No clue. I don't have a set schedule for it or anything. Just work on it once a week and rarely some times off cameras to fix things and such. Though giving its making an entire new world from scratch with custom mechanics and items, it will take longer than most mods for sure.

If I understand correctly I do have plans on trying to add a greenhouse system to my mod that may be something similar to what your looking for at least in the regard to things like space bases with livable areas. But I have no idea when I will be able to work on this feature for this series. I need to get the rice crops done which I still am trying to work out.
You would need to store the items using player persistent global variables, each slot will need their own variable to keep the items in memory. When the GUI is opened then you need to apply the items to the corresponding slots, and when the GUI is closed you need to save the save the itemstack to the variables. This is a simple read/save method which should work for inventories. Also make sure that your slots don't drop items when the GUI is closed, if this happens items will be duped. You can go about removing the items after they are saved when the GUI is closed this should prevent it from happening but pretty sure there is a setting for slots or the GUI that can disable items from dropping when not bound to an account.

Far as I am aware this has to be done using custom code. Its out of my reach for making tutorials when it comes to coding things.
