Almost new. Rory bought the 1961 guitar in 1963 in installments from Crowley’s Music Store in Cork. The guitar’s previous owner was Jim Conlon, the founder of an Irish band Royal Showband. Conlon ordered a red Stratocaster from the US but the sunburst came instead, so he used the guitar for about half a year until the red one arrived. After the red Strat arrived, the sunburst was put on sale at Crowley’s store.
I want to add that the guitar is being auctioned by Rory's brother at Bonhams in October. Check out their website, the auction is interesting. You can own Rory's strat if you have the estimated $1million.
