It's worth noting...Q-Tip helped out Havoc with the production on this song, specifically the drums. He also mixed and produced several tracks on The Infamous album.
@@HiddenKeyElement Maybe true, but I think Tip was being very humble when he said that. Havoc himself has said that Tip helped formulate his production, as he was just learning how to make beats at the time.
Im from the same town and age as Mobb Deep. While other popular rappers were talking about designer clothes ,cars and diamonds etc. Mobb Deep gave us Reality Rap from the project benches. They gave us the raw underground sound and never switched, which is why the true hip hop heads of that golden era put them at the top of the list.
One of the most sampled songs -> Nas referenced as mentioned and some other notables: "I'm falling and I can't look back" - Dance with the Devil - Immortal Technique "When worst comes to worst, my people come first" - Worst Comes to Worst - Dilated Peoples Another great review - Windsor, ON
This album was the soundtrack to my teenage years so Im glad you guys are reacting to both Survival.. and Shook ones...If you react to the whole Infamous album, you will be VERY pleased!

RZA's production does sound unpolished on purpose. He wanted it to sound gritty and raw. There's a scene in the first season of the Wu's Hulu show that addresses this topic actually.
I remember seeing the post about your dad getting you the old Hip-Hop magazines and thought that was great. Well, I was listening to track # 4 off this album, Eye for an Eye Feat. Nas & RaeKwon(Wu-Tang), that led me to Verbal Intercourse which is on Raekwon’s solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. This album is considered a classic. There was a magazine back then called The Source and there was a piece called 5 mics. This piece/artist spotlight was based on lyricism, the verse would get a mic rating. The scale was from 1/2 a mic to 5 mics, 5 was rarely seen but the greats were awarded. Nas’ verse was awarded 5 mics and to me is one of the most amazing verses I’ve ever heard. I still remember reading the lyrics like “wow, how the hell does he do it?” You should review that song if you really want to hear a word smith at his finest.
Rest easy Prodigy. One of the coolest cats i got to meet and hang out with. He was a REAL REEAALLL deal muhfugger! Was supposed to play golf with him at Bethpage the week after he passed away when he came back from tour. Crazy!!
every time I hear this song it takes me through decades of me listening to rap because SO MUCH of it has been sampled in so many times. All these other songs pop up in my head and I'm going "oh, right I haven't heard THAT one in a while.."
Was never a fan of reaction channels before you guys, really enjoy what you do! How about some The Roots? Live instruments with rap might provide something of a middle ground… The Seed 2.0, Now or Never, When the People Cheer are among my faves.
Love your videos I always get something I did know even though I thought I knew the artist or the track. It is so refreshing. When are you guys reacting to some BlackStar , Mos Def ? please 🙏 Or even Slum Village ?
Almost 30 years later and I still hear this in my head when I pass by Queensbridge (which is all the time). Edit: if you wanna dig into the next Mobb album, check out Hell on Earth (Front Lines). It has a similar nihilistic vibe as Shook Ones and Survival.
'It's mine' by Mobb Deep and Nas would be a pretty good song to react to. It samples the scarface soundtrack and Nas' final verse is impeccable. 'I'm going out' is another good song off the same album Murda Muzik and is a lot more of a fast paced song with rapid lyrical deliver. Perfect song to go pumped to. 'Moment of Truth' by Gang Starr is also a pretty good song with poignant messages throughout.
YES! My favorite Mobb track … “My fifth's a organ shifter, the human organism lifter / You'll be hearin organs if ya leavin orphans, if ya / Let these fours hit ya where the Lord split ya” - one of the greatest verses in the history of the genre
I gonna keep asking for you to possibly do 'Bridging The Gap' by Nas featuring his Jazz muscian dad Olu Dara. I think you guys would like as its a mixture of Jazz/Blues/Hip-hop.
Another great choice for analysis! Still waiting for GZA to get the treatment. Ideally Liquid Swords album but also for a single track that showcases GZA's intelligence try The Spark on your dad.

Murda Muzik is such an interesting album juxtaposed with The Infamous. The sounds are so rich and refined on MM and really shows Havoc’s growth in his production along with P’s increasingly sophisticated lyrical approach. The Realest with Kool G Rap on MM is my favorite Mobb track and is rarely brought up in discussions about their music.
Sickest duo in hip hop history. Producer + emcee. Even as a producer, havoc still could kick rhymes. These are grimey lyrics with edge. Nothing nice, dark themes. It’s a certain energy that’s hard to describe.
I recommend "You Can Never Feel My Pain" (2000) - a Prodigy solo track about his sickle cell anemia. Really paints a picture of how it affected his worldview. I know your Dad likes 50 Cent so another one is "Pearly Gates" featuring 50 Cent (2006). You have to find the uncensored version on youtube due to Prodigy's anti-religious sentiment in the last verse.
Maybe you haven’t heard it before but react to Yoke the Joker from Naughty by Nature… Eminem even credited it for making him realize how many more ways you could rhyme instead of always on beat letting it rhyme within the sentences too! Really dope tho!
If he enjoyed nas and mobb deep hed really like electric relaxation by a tribe called quest (queens), or runnin/4 better or 4 worse remix by the pharcyde (LA)

Hey did you get a chance to mention 1. the "Thug Life" add libs started a well known beef with Tupac and 2. I want to suggest "Thug Life is Mine" by Mobb Deep F/ Nas... That beat is from the movie Scarface and the name is a play on Brandy and Monica's "The Boy is Mine". Also with that song, notice the progression of the Havoc then Prodigy then Nas's steadily more impressive performances.
Off the same album, play (Just Step Prelude) straight through to the end of Give Up the Goods. It’s a beautiful story/experience. However Trife Life and then off the Hell on Earth album More Trife Life is another good combination. Blood sport is another amazing track off of Hell on Earth, if you just want the feel of a single.
I suggest to react to "You never feel my pain", which is the closer to Prodigy's debut solo album "HNIC". He talks about his struggles with his disease, and you can better understand where he's coming from.
You guys should also check out "Children's Story" by Slick Rick. An old school British rapper with a hell of a kids story. He weaves a great story with words in this one and I think your dad will really enjoy it.
You guys should review Hip Hop movies. Since you mentioned you can possibly Wu Tang start with their recent Hulu series. I also like the movie that was about Roxanne Shanté. Powerful.

I think Q-tip helped him on the production on this track, and helped a lot with production on first/Second album

The way that Prodigy refers to things is very poetic, that's a big part of the appeal. Referring to clothing as garments etc
That’s why they were originally the Poetic Prophets before they became Mobb Deep.
"Lord forgive me, the Hennessy got me not knowing how to act. I've fallen and I can't turn back."

The Infamous was THE album that got me into hardcore real hip hop. Every track is as raw as it gets

"When worst comes to worst, my people come first" - Worst Comes to Worst - Dilated Peoples

People sleep on Immortal Technique, that was a jarring cut when it came out, and has been since.
You should do some Gang Starr at some point, for example Betrayal with Scarface, that one would be a banger and I’m sure your dad would love it❤

Hell they need to do the whole Moment of Truth album.
Definitely! Gifted unlimited Rhymes universal 4ever !

My favorite Mobb Deep song is Quiet Storm. (Remix as well). I sometimes just listen to the instrumental.
Lil Kim is amazing on that track! Awesome pick.
