Awesome work, Chris! 😃
It definitely works much better now!
For my small workshop I made a small kart to carry the shop vac and a bucket, with a separator. You know? And, man... What a difference it makes!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Awesome. I highly suggest adding a
It’s been on for months now. 👊👊👍👍
Brilliant solutions Chris! Several times in the video I doubted there would be an easy solution, which there wasn’t, but you made it look easy and attainable. That’s why we all love your channel. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Thank you
So much means a lot
Nicely done Chris! I really like your ability to problem solve and create new solutions not only for your shop, but for other shops as well! It also helps me to see other makers think creatively - sometimes it’s not about buying a part off the shelf, but making exactly what is needed to pull different mediums together for a working solution!! Love it!
Thank you Stephanie. Always great to hear from you. Yeah there’s definitely more In one way to do all this. And as always I appreciate you watch in and being involved
To check when the drum is full you can also get a piece of dowel rod and screw a piece of wood to the bottom of it and let the dowel stick out the lid. Glue a piece of rubber around the dowel and every once in awhile you pull the dowel all the way up and push it back down and that's the level of the chips. You make a mark on the dowel for the level of the chips you desire to have before you empty the can
Never would’ve thought of that. Awesome idea brother
Cool idea!
Awesome video and a huge help Chris!! Do you still like the Jet vortex? Thinking of getting one 😀
Super neat! Great product too, that's awesome. Great job, man!
Thank you Drew I appreciate it man!
You are a very clever man. I couldn’t even get my computer to scan yesterday 🌞
Loved it. Looks like I'm going to need to by a pint of flex seal and wait until I have a need to use it to pop into my head.
Just to let you know… I came over from Stumpy Nubs. I subbed and glad I did; love your content.
Great idea. I am glad someone used flex seal.
I bought an Oneida 2 HP cyclone DC with external filter and 35 gal collector (due to limited height) made in the Oneida NY absolutely phenomenal machine. Far exceeds a 1 man shop.
Alright that hose mount is pretty ingenious. Good stuff! Flex seal ftw
Thank you very much yes Phil Swift is a Genius
Awesome Chris love it and it's amazing how people come up with these designs and you finish it in a Glimpse. Stay say Buddy
Thanks buddy always great to hear from you. Hope you’re doing well! What did you end up making with that pallet wood
@@AGlimpseInside I Made Wooden Lockers To Stand Next To My Home Audio Systems, Somewhere To Store All My Audio Cassette Tapes Into
Love the "Rhinhose"! Makes me want to go out and buy some hoses just so I have an excuse to get one.
Well… You know where I’ll be LOL
Hi Chris, you might look into a Murphy Rodgers dust collector that stands outside your shop and will handle all your machines and any that you pick up later. Mine is a internal pleated bag system with cleaning bars and drops into 2, 55 gal drums. Once you get rid of those little suckers you won't be sorry. Good luck with it.
Wow the CNC does a great job cutting those precision rings. I can only imagine trying to get that perfect of quality with my bandsaw.
Yeah it definitely comes in handy for stuff like this. Although by the looks of your work you could probably do a great job brother
The Harbor Freight comment was gold!
Glad you liked it
Nice upgrade. Next, you will be backing a semi-trailer up to collect all of the dust particles.. :) I am doing well. I am on one of the biggest adventures of my life. It's fun to be living again. Glad to see you're still growing your channel!!
Thanks Scott. Nice to hear from you. How’s you’re one of the first people I remember ever commenting on my stuff
Love your ideas. As I am new to French cleat walls and was sourcing the wed I found you. I’m looking for more ideas for hanging squares what you got. Love you content keep it coming
Awesome hose hangers my friend. And that funnel you made was genius dude. And the flex seal, Brilliant. I was thinking hot glue. Anyhow great video. Keep it up.
Thank you Brent. You’re the man I appreciate it
@@AGlimpseInside thanks brother. Once I get out of my small 80sq ft shop and into a garage then I plan on either ordering some of the house hangers or ordering the template to make some..
That’s super nice. Do you wish you had a hole in the exterior wall for the heavy stuff to go outside to a garbage can outside?
Some times yes. That’d be nice
I'm glad I'm not the only one that is using CNC and lathe for my shop or own personal use. Not much being sold on Etsy these days :-D
Harbor Freight smell is exactly what you needed.
How about an update review on the separator. Amazon says these are currently unavailable.
I always find it funny when companies say they will ship to the continental US (not laughing at you, some very big corporations post it on their websites). When I call to order something here in Alaska they say they can't ship to me, only to the "Continental US"... well, last I checked Alaska was in the same continent as the USA! Oh, you mean "contiguous US"!
Anyways, product looks great! May be buying the file when I get my CNC up. Thanks for the video, really trying to figure out if Jet will be better than Super Dust Deputy.
I do like you French clear hose holders
Nice job Chris! You should check to make sure you can recycle that sawdust locally!
Nice video and great problem solving!
I have been seeing more of the horizontal centrifugal separators lately. I wonder how they compare to the "traditional" vertical separators (pressure drop, separation efficiency, etc). I like the lower height. I put a Dust Deputy inside my miter saw stand and it was a tight fit.
@andrew griesel There is a difference in the space required, there may be a performance difference, and there is a marketing aspect.
Great project! This is one of those things we do and feel so much pride in, but when we try to explain it to any lay person they have zero appreciation.
The CNC machine is great BUT somebody put a 3D printer on his Christmas list. Great Video.
Just wanted to know how well does this work
Hey Chris. I've seen this device before, Under Dunn's channel even built one from scratch. Guy's a wild man. Jet production are second only to PowerMatic IMO but I just don't get why Jet does not have a variety of adapters for this thing. Makes zero sense to me. I'd love to have a smaller version to upgrade my 2 stage Dustopper system. Not holding my breath on that.
You know I saw that video. Where he made the whole thing from scratch.
Yeah dude has a pretty awesome approach to all the stuff. And I agree it’s weird that I couldn’t find an adapter for the bottom of this to go into a 4 inch dust house. So I guess you just Gotta make with what you got
@@AGlimpseInside Pardon, I forgot to compliment you on that very cool adapter with that sealant. that's the bomb!
Thank you Tom really appreciate it
Wondered if that type of cyclone was any good. I run a Dust Deputy (PITA to join to hoses). I got a 55gal plastic drum, cut a 3/4 ply top, sealed with weather strip, Spring clamps to hold ply lid on. Lasts 2 to 3 months before I have to dump the sawdust..
Any thoughts on moving to a canister filter? Great job by the way. Awesome stuff as always.
Yes absolutely. That will be the next upgrade. I have a canister filter on my desk collector on my tablesaw and I like it a lot
@@AGlimpseInside When you do, there are a few alternatives to the Wynn filter a lot of guys use. Donaldson makes a nano-filter (model number DBA7038) and Luber-Finer also make their version of a nano-filter (model number LAF5069MXM) - both are similar specs as the Wynn but significantly less expensive. I am waiting on the Luber-Finer to arrive - hopefully next week.
@@KY_kiwi Bradley thank you for the information. Really great definitely gonna look into this
Are you sure the dust intake and debris output don't need to be swapped around? Normally with these cyclone separators the debris falls down the "funnel", loses speed and then drops into the bucket below.
Yes I’m sure. I empty the gray can about six times before I have to empty the bag
Hello,
I'm contemplating running PVC piping or using Rockler hoses for my main lines. I understand the ridges on hoses can reduce airflow by 3 to 4x. How's your experience been? Do you think PVC is much better than the hose lines? Thank you
I would definitely do PVC on the straight lines for sure. That’s one thing I wish I would’ve done however it still works good enough for what I need it for and I am pleased with it
I love the rhinhose!
Thank you
Could you put a trash bag in the can to collect the dust chips? thinking that might be easier than dumping the can.
I might could. However I think the seal won’t be as great. But it’s probably negligible
There is vacuum in there. You would have to have a cage, a brick, or something in the bag.
@@enduman I thought about that but once the heavy particles started to fill up you would think the weight would hold it down. What about those other collection systems that uses plastic bags to collect the lager chips, they don't collapse. Again I am just wagging here.
@@JkCanvas plastic bags have to be on outlet side, not inlet side of fan. Inlet side is under vacuum, too light/thin a collection canister can collapse with excess vacuum if inlet chokes/blocks, a plastic bag, even with a weight in it wouldn't work
I've just added an up vote just for the name 'rhinhose'... excellent name, you should brand it
A question about your shop setup - I am setting up my new workshop in Callahan, fl (steel building) and what have you done to control the humidity in your building - Bless you and your Family
I don’t really have much of a problem with it. Maybe the spray foam is helping. However I don’t do anything specifically for the humidity. I do have a 2 1/2 ton mini split in there so errors always moving and conditioned. But I don’t seem to have any trouble with Moisture
@@AGlimpseInside - we are thinking we may have to do that as well - I did not do the spray I used the foam panels and still installing them to complete the inside - Thank you
You got it any time
I really like your design I like your ingenuity you really think outside the box with that being said you talked a lot about airtight but yet on the top of that trash can I saw a lot of dust I'm just curious as to was it from the sack to the right or was it from the hose itself going into the trash can I'm not expecting a reply I would just like to know I'm an HVAC person
Hey Alfred
The question about the dust well I just didn’t clean it up after working with the dust collector taking the bag on and off that kind of stuff. And I don’t have any over arm desk collection on my tablesaw. So my shop kids pretty dusty but it would be 90% worse without the dust collection I do have
I'm surprised that you're getting much air movement given all of that flexible hosing. All of the reviews that I've read indicate that Jet's cyclone results in significantly lower CFM than a thin or something similar.
Question for you? Could you make me one of those plywood adapters (just the circle part) and I could buy it from you? I want to try that same setup out.
I wish I could man. I’m strapped with website sales and video production at the moment. I’m looking to have my parts made somewhere else if that does happen I’ll have more time to do things like that. I’ll keep you in mind but for right now. I’m not able to brother I apologize
@@AGlimpseInside no worries at all. I forgot about all your other big orders...my bad. Thanks for getting back to me. Have a great day!
"Gotta pronounce that 'L'..."
F'n lol.
I have a question. Have you had any problem with the cyclone clogging?
Once.
Too many large Plywood strings got caught up through the CNC. But other than that it’s been great
I think all the fine dust will be blown out of that bag since it doesn't have anywhere close to enough surfice area to get the suction you need for a 2 micron filter. You need pleated filters to get most of the invisible particles that you can smell. Make sure they have an actual tested rating with a new filter rather than accepting what they get with a dirty filter that chokes the airflow.
So initially that’s a little bit what happens but the bag is designed for the dust to seep into its pores and create an airtight seal. And so after a few weeks of using it there is no discernible air coming from the bag. It’s pretty ingenious
Good work on the rhinos👍🏻
Send to Australia I’d buy a few for my shop
Soon you'll be adding a "trashcan is full" alarm or a clear window to see in the drum. Or atleast I would, cause I'm lazy and like to forget to check my dust bin 🙄
That’s a pretty good idea. Might have to cut a small window. For now I just go by and see how heavy it is LOL
@@AGlimpseInside haha, yeah, that works too!
Great idea
Great stuff brother! Harbor Freight smell!! LOL
And my right. Everybody knows that smell
@@AGlimpseInside so true!🤣🤣
Hey Chris , that's works great with that new cyclone ,is it a crazy tought that you use the sawdust to make woodpallets for a heater to warm your own shop ?
or to sell them to make a profit to improve the shop ?
greetz Henk from The Netherlands
p.s. can't wait till the next episode , keep up the great work of you ... cheers
Hey Chris, Great video... if you send me the inner/outer dimensions... I can 3D print one for you!
You are so right about flex seal... smelling like HF!
I used flex seal on an ice chest table I made it works awesome
That’s what I discovered as well. The stuff is pretty cool
Great video!
Did you remove the hose support from your store?
Pretty cool system, great rhinohose.
A fun addition to that would have been to take the cone you made, put a piece of plywood on each end, then mount it on a lathe so you could carve out those had edges, make it look like a cone. Completely unnecessary, but would have looked neat. I hadn't seen that product before, thanks for that, I'm going to check it out. Are you considering upgrading the bag to a canister?
ua-cam.com/video/wNLFP52cqSc/v-deo.html
Actually I did upgrade and here’s the installation on my second channel. I like the color idea that could’ve worked absolutely
A spindle sander with a tilting table would smooth the inside of the cone also..
Hey Chris. another good video but I noticed how much flex hose you have and wondered about suction loss due to the ribs in the hose. I have thin wall 4" Pvc duct in my shop with blast gates and try to minimize the amount of flex hose as possible. I have a semi-clear flex 4" hose drop to my table saw and I can see particles of dust clinging to the sidewall rings so I was wondering if you had any problems with that .
Great question. Honestly I don’t have any issue. Or at least I think I don’t LOL. All I can say is that the system works well it does what I needed to do without me having to gumption to change anything. Know if I have the 650 CFM that might be a different story but the 1250 does really well
Now you just need something that tells you when to empy the can. IVac makes a phenomenal level detector for around $70 that works so much better than the $180 oneida one does.
is that bottom fitting like a 5" or between 5 and 6?
Did I miss the demo of it actually sucking and separating..? All that flex, reducers plus the cyclone itself has got to be killing the cfm's of this setup.
What size comes out of the jet to the separator?
3.5”
nice upgrade. are these supposed to be better/more efficient than the vertical ones/cyclones? and loving your rhinhose ;) cute and practical lol. is it available to buy as just a normal plan for folks without cnc's to do by hand?
Thank you. As for the verticality I’m not sure if one’s better than the other. However yes the digital plan contains a to scale PDF and SVG file that you can print as a template. Good to hear from AL. Hope all is going well
@@AGlimpseInside okay cool. I'll have to pick up the pdf ;) thanks 😊 likewise
@@The_Bearded_Lady Thank you so much.
I have one and am not a fan. Definitely not money well spent. I planned on putting in line with my planer to catch the big chips so it would be easier to empty. It clogged so hard on the first pass that I had to pull the hoses and use a rod to pull all the chips. I clogged it using the floor sweep from rockler. I have it in the line connected to the table saw and it works there like in the video. The inlet that causes the air to spin is a definite choke point. I should have gone with the Oneida instead.
Man that’s a bummer. I am curious about your cleaner though. Do you have straight blades or a helical head. The Rikon I have has the helical head and it seems to make smaller chips than my old Dewalt
Daaaaaang!
Is this the first time you DIDN'T SAND?! You always sand!
Lol. It was my first time flex sealing haha I wasn’t sure it deserves a nice sandy plus I wanted to really put it through its paces
@@AGlimpseInside also, your other video about your family..... hit right in feels. Not only is that brave, but awesome. Wish the best, brother. Beautiful family. You're a good man.
@@coreypierce4141 Thank you buddy I appreciate it. Right in the feels. I love expression. Thanks for the kind words!
Arent you supposed to just cut a hole in the trashcan/barrel/whatever collection bin lid and attach it to the lid. That's what it seems like to me.
squeeze clamps ------Next project
Real close
Too bad you don't have a 3D printer yet. Making a reducer would have been way easier with additive manufacturing.
Also you're going to need to upgrade the fine end to a hepa canister filter. The bag isn't going to cut it if all that's going in is fine dust
Probably could have sealed your "cone" with paint, poly or lacquer....
Where's the demonstration of how it works? Seemed like it was just an advertisement for his work.
if u rly wanna effect on ur dust collection ur gotta get rid of all the felx hose's............
Hey Brother, I enjoy your video's. One thing, This is my very humble opinion, Could you please not use bungy cords especially around kids. I'm sure you can see my "name" and I can tell you from experience, I will never use bungy cords, and have not used them in years. God only blessed us with two eyes. Maybe my work experience is just anecdotal, but I think its worth sharing.
So I’m curious to know what is the danger of the bungee cords is it something about whiplash and maybe I injuries etc.? I’m just curious
Harbor freight scented car fresheners????🤪🤪🤪🐵🐵🐵
Fantastic! I'm making my own 3D printed version of this as we speak.
Progress can be followed at my Instagram page.
instagram.com/handy.scientist
USD 200 (!) for that? It must be a joke...
You need a 3d printer. And get rid of that cloth bag soon.
You could always upgrade your dust collector but stealing the SRT8’s engine and placing it in your dust collector…
We could name it the dustHawk!!!
@@AGlimpseInside by the way your newest video was fantastic. Congrats on the new full time gig. Sending oodles and oodles of prayers to your wife.
You cut your CFM in half twice with your setup. Nothing Ultimate about this setup
Weird. It seems to be stronger
@@AGlimpseInside your Y and the separator cut it in half. That separator has some of the worst reviews
