Finally beat this boss after numerous amounts of wipes. Here is a friendly tip; "skip this fight until you're insanely overgeared". This boss will destroy you.
Re: countering the breath attack. As you said it's not recommended but it is possible however only do this if your counter is also a gapcloser with no followup backward movement because right in his face is actually a safe spot, the hitbox is further away.
you forgot one thing he does that is insta death very often velganos will dash and do a spin attack and knock you down and follow up with dark breath if your get up skill is un cooldown you are dead so don't use it often to avoid it many times during his 3 stages you will die once or twice to this attack.
It is fun though? Or is the definition of fun for this playerbase begging for carries in the find a party tab, than proceed to get carried through every raid all the way to tier 3 without ever learning what stagger or destruction is, or how to properly use battle items, properly spacing yourself, etc.
This boss is so bullshit. You can't predict any of the attacks, he will make random series of attacks and some of them you don't have enough time to counter or get away from. I bet that for some of them the time you have to dodge/counter is borderline maximum human reaction time. This boss is harder than Darksouls.
Yet you'll still have no-life elitists saying "VeLgAnOs iS sO eAsY." People like showing off in the dumbest ways....although I'm sure being overgeared helps.
Don't even think about matchmaking this, nobody will bring whirlwind (to stagger) or timestop (to block the failed stagger) so you'll just have 3 deaths every stagger mechanic. It's basically impossible in matchmaking unless you can hard carry, though in that case just go solo. The stagger check feels unfair, whirlwind + doomsday + punishing strike, and he's still standing. I ended up just using TS most of the time to survive it, though you don't get the free damage. Eventually got him, would have been more efficient to just pay a 1475+ to kill him though, since I'd have saved a ton of time and battle items.

Queuing for this is utter ass and party finder is full of gold priced carry or be 1450 with perfect stats. It’s a joke literally impossible for me to kill this boss as a support pally.
This boss is trash tier design. Literally the worst shit they could've ever put in the game. Unfair and dumb, can't react to anything, the AI evades all your damaging attacks, it's really stupid. Do it once and never again. There's no challenge, it's just you getting ass raped.
just like any other guardian " first clear bonus" on the character you cleared it with, after that pretty much standard loot. that and u need to probably kill it at least once so that you can do any guardians that are after Velganos.
After first try just go back to doing Yoho everyday unless you are super geared and can bypass all the phases by mega dps. The stress is not worth the little extra leapstones.
How many more rewards do you get from this than night fox ? Because I have a feeling the difficulty boost doesn’t correlate to the rewards, & doing night fox every single day would be much more time efficient
The worse thing by far about Velganos is all the shit he leaves on the ground. If you're melee you can't even get in range of him during 80%+ of the fight.
These are impossible to do with pugs because one wipe and ppl cry and leave. And no point me joining a guild because I'm casual. But I least I read up on tacts. Good video anyway
hope u post a lancemaster guide. when its available on NA servers. w/ the highest dps possible and can be super useful on chaos dungeons,raids,bosses and so fort :) . BTW i love your abysal guide. they are very helpful to a newbie like me.
I tried this with a PUG. They are so lazy they don't even like dying once. FFXIV community is so much more forgiving. These Lost Ark kids are spoilt. I inspected the main complainer in the Challenge version, he was not even 1k GS yet.

Thanks for this guide, but… NO, this boss is not fun. It is just unfair hard, you dont really learn the patterns, you have to be lucky. So I am 1417 now but I skip Velganos, wont do shitty content like this until i vastly outgear it or someone carries me, even if that means no Deskaluda for weeks/months.

Always solo the chaos dungeons, even on supports is easy enough and you dont have to deal with people refusing portals
