Brings tears to my eyes, miss both my grandpas and waiting for the green line after a celtics game on the elevated North Station stop, the smells, the sights, the old Garden and North Station and the old Boston is always in my soul an mind and this video and song tells the tale of my memories and brings them to life...I miss the good ol' days, I want my old Boston back!!
I went to a lot Boston Braves hockey games in the early 70s. Taking a bus to Old Sullivan Sq. From Medford And then the El to Old North Station and this was when I was 10 years old TEN ! With no worries. Those were the Days. I can still hear the Squealing of the trains going around the corner from Causeway Street to Rutherford Ave. God I miss being a little kid. God Bless the El.
0:34 its such an MBTA Boston thing that the sign still lists the commuter rail as the B&M(Boston & Maine) which hadn't existed since the late 70s/early80s, another great memory that I didn't catch originally in this video!
Jarek Alexander I too miss that shit hole of a place. The El. I rode from Old Sullivan Square to Old North Station for Old Boston Braves Hockey games in the early early 70s. I can still hear the Orange Line Train Wheels squealing going around the corner from North Washington Street onto Causeway Street. I miss the smell of Old North Station.
I like this slideshow. It brings back memories of going to the circus and Hammett's with my mother in the early 80s; noticing that we could get a trolley at ground level when we'd just bought a huge tent at Hilton's Tent City and my mom thought we'd have to climb up to the El; wandering around the station as a high-school kid in the late 80s and early 90s; and some other visits to Causeway St and the Garden. In 1990 when you took these pictures, was it still possible to walk along the old high platform for the Atlantic Ave El to get from the outbound Green Line platform down to the surface station and the Orange Line subway station? I see stairs at the east end of that platform blocked off (with graffiti on the wall) at 1:37, but I'm not sure if those were the only stairs to the platform. I feel like I remember walking down that platform sometime in the 80s, but I know that by 1992 summer it was closed off and so was the passage that led from the stairs above the surface station to the garden's second flood and to the stairs up to the old platform -- the old route from OL to outbound GL was closed then.
Thanks- There are actually 2 music cuts used, both I recorded from radio in the early-mid 70's. They are custom syndicated radio pieces which probably are not available. -The intro is "Just One More Chance". You can find an old original on YT by Bing Crosby. -The full piece that follows- I don't have the title on that one.. Maybe an old timer will know.. Probably from the 40's.
BD19, I am pretty sure that you're right. I was checking music tracks for some of my recent vids and did find another version of that song and I think that is the title. Thanks for the info-
Yes, street level at Causeway St. / Canal St. as long as the PCCs were running. After the Boeing LRV's went into service in '77 the loop was converted into two terminal ends.. still used in '90 when I photographed these images.

I am amazed at how completely different the whole area looks now, Thanks for the slides.
Nice touch adding in the wheels squealing around a turn. My favorite elevated station. Thanks!
Wonderful pictures. I was in Boston this past Monday to ride the Greenline. I love the mix of music and the trains.
Video always brings a tear to my eye...

Amazing how much this area has changed. I work on Canal St. Great slideshow and music!
Yes, I originally shot these in B+W and made this video from my 8x10 prints. So, they were already in B+W in 1990.
Thanks-

The second song is "If I Loved You," by Rogers & Hammerstein from "Carousel."
Remember that well, looking from hanover Street in the North End. Nice video.
@joegreaser - yeah, the graffiti on the long abandoned platform..
The platform and the tag are now really abandoned>> demolished..
Yes

@tapthatt2012 - glad you like it!
Thank you!
amazing
Thanks!
great memories
Was there some kind of loop for trains terminating at North Station?
Yes, street level at Causeway St. / Canal St. as long as the PCCs were running. After the Boeing LRV's went into service in '77 the loop was converted into two terminal ends.. still used in '90 when I photographed these images.
Oh wow. Interesting. Thank you for the info
nice vid. great music
These train photos make me think that the MSTS in your screenname alludes to Microsoft Train Simulator.
very nice.
The symphonic track used here can also be heard in an original form here: 'Carousel', watch?v=jy6kqRIIZxM
The old station will be new.
itis a shame that the mc donalds and burger king are gone at north station
All in B&W? Ahh...it gives a vintage feel to it. If your goal was to make me feel old, I sincerely hate you now for achieving it.
Worked on 4th floor next to garden...Laurelite Mfg... great memories on the green line back to Ashmont ! The good ol days ,
It is supposed to be a new station.
It is elevated.
I know it well. If you're standing and not holding on well, you could get thrown off your feet there
RYZE @ 1:37
@BenDavis19 - From 'Carousel', watch?v=jy6kqRIIZxM
coincidence only.
