Gigantic1000 it is false advertising. There is no reason to not just show the overall price because it's not like we can opt out of it. If we must pay it, may as well see it.
It's a tactic used to make you see and accept one price, get in a mindset of having it and spiritually knowing you will have it...then getting to the register and having to make a decision...look like a fool who doesn't know any better then go put it back. Or just accept what is...which is what we all mostly do

I actually had an argument recently with some old lady at a bodega who tried to charge me $1.50 for a can of Arizona when the price on the can said 99 cents. She even went to another worker to see if I was lying, the whole time I was telling her, "THE PRICE IS ON THE CAN!" So she finally said $1.00, I handed her the money, took my green tea Arizona, and never went to that bodega again. Thankfully, a deli opened up next to them, and yeah, they actually charge the price on the can. 🍵

Just like Portlandia is not meant to represent Portland in its entirety, Atlanta (the show) is playing off of stereotypes with use of satire and common experiences.
On the other hand, I understand Atlanta is also home to a community of ppl with more affluence. But majority of folks are the everyday folks, like myself.
